I decided to start tutoring after my experience in trying to get tutors for my own children. As a professional working internationally I thought it would be easy to hand over this important element of their education to someone with both experience and patience. My notion was quickly turned on its head. The Tutors I found taught textbook style with the one shoe fits all approach. My children and others didn't fit into that mould. I am a full time Maths teacher at secondary school with a Mathematics BSc Degree. I really enjoy maths (yes this is a cliche), but I love the problem solving aspect of it and the fact there is a right or wrong answer. I always look to simplify problems and am only happy if I fully understand it. I am currently KS4 coordinator at my school and thoroughly enjoy my work and do not see myself doing any other profession.

I tend to do more A-level than anything else, but GCSE or KS3 are not a problem.

I tend to get the students to drive each session so we can focus on what they tell me is a problem, whether that's a particular topic, a piece of work they've been set, or a particular question. If in doubt, I get them doing exam questions, as that quickly reveals any issues or weaknesses. It's not a problem for me to react to whatever the student tells me they want to cover that particular week. For online students, I set up an online folder with past papers, formula sheet etc so they can also add anything they want to go through with me. When we cover a topic, I'll write up a revision card for the student for them to keep, so next time it comes up we can pull the card out.
