I'm Kirsty, I love teaching as I believe my passion for my subject helps ignite curiosity in young people of where we see maths in everyday life and how it affects their lives. Spotting patterns and being able to problem solve in every job and career path comes from great mathematical analytic skills!

I love when students get the 'lightbulb' moment; the understanding kicks in and we get the solution to the problem we are working on. Endorphins rushing when we feel a sense of achievement. I want to help break the barriers of 'I'm not good at maths' and change mindsets to 'I'm not good at maths, yet'. Optimism and a positive mindset can really change outcomes, both with maths questions and life in general.

I have been teacher for the past 10 years in a secondary school in Billingham. I have taught throughout key stage 3 and 4, from year 7 through to year 11. I am currently employed as a maths excellence specialist, working towards my teaching qualification. I have a degree in mathematics as well as A-levels and GCSEs in the subject. I love helping others and find it extremely rewarding.

Teaching Experience:
I have been working in secondary schools since 2022. I am very passionate about maths and with my school I offer numerous tutoring sessions during the week to aid year 11s and further maths students. With my placement I offered remote tutoring where I received a very complimentary email from the head teacher after their child had joined and suggested my tutoring sessions were better than their own private tutor.

I start with a past paper to find any gaps in knowledge and plan accordingly to fill them gaps and correctly scaffold to achieve a strong understanding of the concepts. I will have questions pre-printed or available on my laptop depending on the topic.
