Personal Description:
I am a Japanese national who has completed eight Japanese language beginners courses (10 weeks each) as a language instructor at colleges based in Liverpool and Manchester. In a formal course review exercise, I received excellent ratings from my college students with respect to the various teaching components of the course.
I am adept at recognising how best to target my teaching approach, particularly with respect to students who have little or no knowledge of the Japanese language using my fluency in verbal and written English and Japanese.
My teaching experience includes 18 months as a language instructor to college students in Japan, in one-to-one, and group teaching as an employee at a language school. In addition, I was employed in the Japan university sector as a translator of English to Japanese and vice versa, and as a business translator involving UK and Japanese companies. I therefore have language teaching experience acquired over several years in various settings.
My doctoral degree is sociology-based supporting the teacher-student interaction for making solid progress in learning.
Teaching Experience:
100 weeks in beginners Japanese at language colleges in Liverpool and Manchester
12 months providing English language instruction to college students in Japan
18 months English-Japanese language translator at a Japanese University
12 months in organising and translating and interpreting for two Japanese cultural exchange trips
Over 10 years in translating and interpreting various Japanese/UK business people
Online tutoring for 4 years both in groups and individuals. Full HD video camera/microphone and Zoom/Skype.
UK-Japanese business language interpreter and translator
Multiple students taught in private sessions from a wide background that includes, teachers, business professionals, university and college students, and other backgrounds.
Tutoring Approach:
I can provide personal tutoring and group tutoring as required in a large classroom specially set-up for teaching with an approachable and friendly style to engage students in fully comprehending an unfamiliar language. Tuition is provided in verbal and written Japanese using language props as an aid to understanding, with textbooks and specialist Hiragana teaching materials. I have excellent whiteboard writing skills and I am comfortable at teaching in both formal and less formal surroundings. Tuition can be arranged on a regular or irregular timetable according to the needs of the particular student(s).

Personal Description:
Nice to meet you! I'm Rebecca; I'm 36 years old and graduated from Bangor University with a BSc in Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology. After university I spent a year as a specialist support worker for adults with autism and autistic traits. I have also completed a Level 2 Counselling Course and a Level 2 in Caring for Children and Young People course. With my psychology degree and experience I am more than happy to cater for students that might need a bit of extra help, and have experience teaching students with Aspergers, Personality Disorder, and depression.
Following uni, I spent nearly 2 years teaching English as a foreign language in Japan. Whilst in Japan, I also learnt how to speak conversational Japanese, and can also read and write hiragana, katakana, and N5/ N4 level kanji. I now tutor Japanese full time, and have been doing so since 2014.
To better understand what is needed for GCSE Japanese, I took my GCSE in 2016 achieving an A*. I also took and passed my JLPT N5 in 2025; I wanted to be able to fully describe the N5 experience to my students. I am happy to help students work towards their GCSE or N5 level Japanese, and I am constantly training to improve my students learning experience.
I'm currently only teaching via Microsoft Teams, as I have a two small children and face-to-face lessons are impractical at the moment.
Teaching Experience:
My teaching experience includes the 2 years I spent teaching English as a foreign language in Japan, where I designed the yearly teaching schedules, lesson plans, and then taught the lessons. My students were from the age of 3 to 65, so I have experience in teaching all ages. Whilst in Japan I also taught beginner's Japanese to foreigners living in my local area.
Since returning to England in 2013 I've been tutoring English and Japanese full time. I took my GCSE Japanese in 2016 achieving an A*, and finally got round to taking and passing the JLPT N5 in 2025. I'm currently teaching around 15 different students 1 to 1, and relish the challenges and individuality between each new student.
I currently volunteer for a local playgroup, where I help to set up and run sessions, and lead the story time and songs.
At university I volunteered for several groups including an activity group for disadvantaged children, assisting in secondary school classrooms, volunteering at the local mental health unit and volunteering as a charity shop assistant.
Prior to this, I often tutored my younger sister (who has Asperger's Syndrome) and helped her to understand her school work. I also clocked up countless hours of babysitting for parents around the local area.
Tutoring Approach:
When students attend my lessons, I like to think that they come not only to learn, but for the experience. I deliver fun, relaxed, friendly lessons where my students can feel comfortable and just enjoy learning something they're interested in. I write and provide all of my own lesson materials, and adapt them to my student's learning style - and then mix in some games to help practice the new vocabulary!
I also encourage my students to message me with questions, or to send pictures of their work for discussions outside of lessons too - so if you're ever stuck during your studies, always know that you've got someone to ask!

Personal Description:
Fully qualified teacher of Japanese and Russian languages (all levels).
I prepare students for GCSE and A-level exams, as well as assess exam results for colleges. I also assist students with all levels of JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) and TRKI (The Test of Russian as a Foreign Language).
I currently teach private individuals, groups, as well as some government organisations and corporate entities.
Being native in Russian, and an expert in the Japanese & English languages, I am acutely aware of the differences between English & Japanese and English & Russian languages, their specific capabilities, nuances and requirements.
I focus on teaching methods that are designed to make learning interactive and fun. I have developed my own strategy for delivering concise and meaningful learning methods to my students to assist their understanding. I enjoy teaching languages; it gives my students an opportunity to communicate with new people and expand their world.
I obtained a Master's Degree in diplomacy/international relations at a top-ranking Moscow University of International Relations (MGIMO) with Japanese and English languages.
In 2000 I undertook the internationally recognised Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) achieving a 'Level 1' pass (the highest attainable level).
From 2000 until 2010 I lived in Japan, and worked in a senior position for a leading Japanese technology company in Tokyo. During this time it afforded me an excellent 'real world' understanding of the Japanese language, its nuances and the fascinating Japanese culture.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching Russian and Japanese languages for about 8 years.
References can be provided.
This website doesn't allow students to leave feedback, but once I have your details I will send you a link to where I have 50+ 5* feedback.
Tutoring Approach:

My lessons are tailor-made for each person, so no matter what your level or interest, I can ensure you will achieve your goals. Therefore, if you are looking to learn for a holiday, or as a main language I'll be able to help!

I am a native Japanese, and I have a full academic record about the education of Japanese language.
Also I have professional carrier history about teaching Japanese for a non-native Japanese speakers at reputable companies.
I am also a professional interpreter, and translator in Japanese - English and vice versa.
I have rich professional experience in Japan and in England for over 20 years.
I have double degree in literature and linguistics (Master's degree in linguistics, too).
In recent years, I have involvement of the school activities to read Japanese and English books.
All students are happy to be taught by me, as I have rich experience of teaching.
Teaching Experience:
I was also used to be a professional Japanese tutor for non-native Japanese (Malay trainee) hired by an international textile company, Toyobo in the past.
I also conduct private tutoring at home. Examples of my students' nationalities: British, Canadian, Malay, American.
I currently hold UK PGCE Secondary teacher qualification.
Tutoring Approach:
Learning a foreign language is very challenging. Especially people who are not familiar with the new language, because they do not see the words and the grammatical structures in common with their language.
However, some people need to study a foreign language to achieve good score of an exam.
In this case, we have to focus on a short-term goal. Specific exercise is necessary to achieve the goal.
I can offer the various options of the package that are based on a specific goal, and on the current level of a student. By focusing a specific goal, students can achieve to the level they wished for in a very short term.
My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My philosophy is based on the idea that learning happens in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. My experience has been that one-to-one personal tuition has a unique value to students because of the ability to resolve the students' personal barriers to learning in a way that lays the foundations for a deep and lasting understanding of the subject.
My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don't lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the students' homework for them!
I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring to students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential.

---------------
'I have been studying with Satomi since 2021 and have found her an excellent tutor in all regards. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to achieve fluency in Japanese: she is also a warm, patient and considerate tutor who is a pleasure to spend time with, consistently making our lessons the highlight of my week.
Satomi goes above and beyond with committing herself to her students' learning; researching and comparing new resources, preparing lessons that fit perfectly to her students' skill level whilst still challenging them to improve, and covering many aspects of fluency in Japanese that are not taught by conventional textbooks. When travelling in Japan, I am constantly praised on my accent and the natural flow of my speech, and feel confident in communicating any situation, including high-level discussion and dialogue.
Satomi is an excellent tutor for anyone looking to push themselves in their studies, as she is very skilled at recognising the techniques and time required to master new grammar, vocabulary, kanji, pitch accent and natural speaking and writing patterns, while matching her approach to the learning style of her student.
She goes to great lengths to thoroughly correct my written and spoken prose, and to then ensure that these lessons are internalised and practised to mastery. Whilst doing so she remains reassuring, gentle, kind and considerate, making my progress feel like a mutual goal, and celebrating our successes together.'

Personal Description:
I am happy to offer you English, French, Spanish and Russian lessons tailored to your needs.
I am a qualified teacher with 13 years` experience in Moscow, Paris and London.
I graduated from Moscow Pedagogical State University and Pushkin Institute. I hold a Master of Education (distinction). Additionally, I passed the CELTA in Paris and acquired a further DELTA qualification.
I am bilingual in English and Russian and fluent in French and Spanish, so I have always been a part of improving children's cognitive development and helped navigate three different worlds as a majority of my students have been more or less exposed to two or three cultures simultaneously.
I am a well-organised strong classroom performer who is able to effectively communicate with students from diverse backgrounds, varying degrees of ability and ages. Teaching groups and one to one teaching is equally rewarding. However, this is the latter one that gives you an amazing possibility to tailor the session towards the needs, level and capability of a student.
By using my enthusiasm felt by learners and readiness to experiment, I can maintain a positive climate where students can reach their full potential.
As an inspirational teacher with high personal standards, I am committed to the learning and development of my students. I have high expectations of both myself and my students, and show an interest in every student as an individual.
I feel that my greatest strengths are my ability to inspire love of languages in students, to motivate them in developing a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.
I work with students of different levels (Beginner, Elementary, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate, Advanced) and age groups (preschool children, schoolchildren, students, adults).
I also prepare students for Cambridge (Starters, Movers, Flyers, KET, PET, FCE, IELTS/TOEFL)
Oxford (SELT) exams,
TOEFL,
GESE (Trinity),
IELTS Academic, General training, Life skills
GCSE in French, Spanish and Russian,
TRKI in Russian.

Personal Description:
I studied Japanese at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and I completed both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Japan. Having lived in Japan for seven years, I have developed a deep understanding of the Japanese language and culture and hold the highest level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency (JLPT N1). In addition to my language expertise, I have experience in traditional Japanese arts, including tea ceremony and calligraphy.
I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for Japanese with learners of all levels, from complete beginners to those preparing to study, work, or travel in Japan. My aim is to make learning Japanese engaging, accessible, and culturally enriching.
Teaching Experience:
With over 10 years of experience in private tutoring and university-level teaching, I have helped students achieve their academic and professional goals, including securing employment and gaining admission to universities in Japan. I have also successfully prepared students for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), helping them pass levels N5 to N3.
Tutoring Approach:
Every student is unique, with their own learning style, goals, and reasons for studying Japanese. I take these individual differences into account and tailor my lessons to each student's needs. Together, we establish realistic goals and a manageable learning pace, working collaboratively to achieve steady, measurable progress.
I also offer a fast-track Japanese language course based on the methodology I was trained in at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. This comprehensive programme develops all four language skills, beginning with speaking and listening before progressing to reading and writing. With consistent study, students can expect to reach a level equivalent to JLPT N4 within one year, enabling them to engage in everyday conversations. Within two to three years, they can aim to reach JLPT N3 proficiency, allowing them to understand conversations in a wider range of everyday situations and beyond.

The Japanese language can be somewhat challenging for students to grasp. However, by developing a solid foundation and building a wide vocabulary, the process becomes achievable and rewarding for everyone.
For students who plan to use Japanese in a working environment, I have a strong understanding of both Business Japanese and Japanese business etiquette, and can provide practical, culturally informed lessons.
