My teaching approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective. Languages should always be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. The majority of classes must be delivered in the target language, however in order to meet timing of syllabus coverage and exams some of the concept must be strengthened in the student's language.
In an ideal world, where no exams or timed targets exist, then tutoring of a language should happen 100% in the target language.

I am an Italian national who has been living in Bristol since September 2012 and having had a long time experience as an Italian teacher for students who have participated in the AFS Intercultural Program, it has not been difficult to insert myself here as a private Italian teacher.
I have a deep understanding of the GCSE program since I am tutoring three English secondary school students who are having difficulties with the Italian language. They lack interest and enthusiasm thus each lesson becomes more difficult but a challenge for me. I am looking for lessons that give them the enthusiasm they are missing and I must say that I am succeeding; sometime I see that the textbook is very dry and for this reason, my personal teaching materials often replaces the book.
My method is based a lot on grammar induction, stimulating conversations with the student, based on body movements for understand the action of the various stages of the exploration of the basic construction of the verb tense. A few years ago I enrolled in a workshop offered at the university about the use and choice of scene Italian films for understand better the Italian style-life and that has been quite useful to my teaching of Italian culture.
In Italy I have had own bookshop where I held my Italian lesson, therefore I know very well many documentaries and lectures mostly (or particularly) on Ancient Rome. Furthermore, I have been a guide in the city of Rome and I'm perfectly capable of organizing a cultural trips.

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. PRIMARY:

We explore useful words and phrases, practise listening and speaking, and have fun with simple questions and answers. By joining in and giving things a go, children build on what they've learnt - from remembering words to answering questions independently and practising clearer pronunciation. There's no need to get everything perfect; we focus on enjoying the language, so it doesn't feel rushed, scary or like a chore.


ADULTS:

Learning a language should feel relaxed and enjoyable! Here, there's no rush or pressure to get everything right, and no need to feel embarrassed if you forget something.

I teach French and German at beginner to intermediate levels (A1-B1), and Italian for beginners (A1-A2). Whether you'd like to order your favourite meal, find your way around on holiday, or chat with family and colleagues, we'll focus on language that's useful and relevant to you.

I pronounce foreign words and phrases slowly and clearly, giving you time to repeat them at your own pace and making learning feel less overwhelming. If you get stuck, I offer gentle hints and corrections without interrupting the flow. This way, you can build your confidence and learn to express yourself more naturally.

Remembering new words takes time, and that's perfectly normal. Together, we'll explore practical ways to help them stick, from fun memory tricks and personal connections to revisiting them naturally in conversation.

My aim is for you to feel more comfortable using the language, enjoying the little steps forward along the way - whether that's remembering a new word, laughing about a little mix-up, or managing to say something you couldn't before!
