I am 40 year old Property Lawyer based in the Cheshire area. I have over fifteen years experience in private tutoring. I am fond of reading, debating, eating and discovering new things. I tailor my approach to each unique request made and scenario presented. I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be achieved given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. Younger students are most open to absorbing information and should have the chance to take academic information and guidance from a range of people. This enhances the educational experiences and broadens the horizons of a student.

Having myself struggled with poor teachers, or unwieldy subject matter, I know that, with the right teachers, such areas can come alive. More clinical approaches to tutoring further separate students from the learning process. Hello, I am a well qualified, BA, MPhil, PGCE teacher who is looking to branch out into more private tutoring work. I have privately tutored for many years and have experience since 1996. I have taught at all key stages and enjoy my work thoroughly. Last year (2019) my A level tutees all raised their grades by at least one and have gone off to uni. I began teaching Spanish as a volunteer in my university on 2015. I have always had a great interest in different cultures and languages. I really admire people who travel and work around the world, so in 2015-2016 I decided to teach Spanish voluntarily during the whole course (9 months) to those international people who came as an Erasmus to my University. I felt really comfortable helping them improving their Spanish while I was learning a lot from them too.

After this academic course, I made my luggage and I went to the USA for the whole summer. I was motivated and interested in the American lifestyle, so I decided to try my best three months working at Morey´s Piers as a chef while I was working as a native Spanish teacher in my second job at the Christian academy for 3 months in New Jersey.

As soon as I finished my stay in the USA, I came back to Poland where I continued my last year of university through a bilateral international agreement at the Poznan University of Medical Sciences. I was studying while I was working in 2 different institutions as a native Spanish teacher. On the one hand, I was working as a tenured Spanish native teacher at the "IBERIS online academy" for one year. On the second hand, I was working as support Spanish native teacher at the "Gniezno Institute" during the same academical year.

In conclusión, the last 2 years from 2015 I have been working as a native Spanish teacher in 4 different places, at the University in Spain, at Christian´s academy in the USA, at IBERIS online academy and Gniezno institute (Poland). And right now, I am working privately in Scotland.

I am a highly experienced educationalist with a wholistic approach and a wide range of work experience before training as a teacher.

Prior to becoming a qualified teacher my professional experience includes IT, social work, property maintenance, music, photography and education & employment while my studies at undergraduate included nine subjects. I therefore draw upon a wide range of experience, knowledge and practice and believe that personal development is one of the most important and fulfilling things we can engage with in life.

In addition to various qualifications I have gained, I self study and pursue a wide range of activities and interests which gives me an ever increasing palette to draw upon when tutoring / mentoring.

Teaching Experience:
I gained my PGCE in Secondary Education (Maths) and worked in Adult Education and Family Learning for many years whereby I delivered accredited courses in Mathematics (up to GCSE level) and non-accredited courses in English and IT. In utilising my experience of working with mental health I set up and ran the only Maths for Mental Health group in Sussex which, although successful, unfortunately was terminated due to lack of funding along with my Family Learning teaching practice.

I left the Adult Education sector when I was head hunted by a family to deliver a private Home Learning curriculum and now work solely as a private tutor; supporting students in the Maths school curriculum and delivering a range of subjects (Maths, English, German, History, Photography, Chess etc.) to students who are home schooled. My name is Liam, I have both courtroom experience and am a PhD candidate at Aberystwyth University.

In my degree, I worked at a charity called Veterans Legal Link where I gained much of my legal experience. While at this charity we focused on providing legal support to Veterans and their families on any topic that would arise. Through both this and working at solicitors firms since then I have gained experience in both the form filling side of the law and actual courtroom advocacy.

In my degree, I scored a 2:1 and in my Master's, I scored a Distinction. I have experience teaching and tutoring and genuinely enjoy the job.

Teaching Experience:
I actively lecture at my university in an assistant role and am the sole provider of Westlaw lectures at my university. (Westlaw being the database law students use at university)

I was the president of the local debating Union (past tense as we have a limited amount of terms), I have also been the captain of my debating teams back at A level. In both of these cases it is my responsibility to teach the members of the societies to learn to debate.

As a result of my teaching the debating union I am currently at has been Welsh National Champions 2 years in a row and was the opening team at the Oxford Inter Varsity tournament in 2018.

As well as this I also assist in seminars with other students currently on my course, I enjoy law, history and politics (all 3 attribute to my current degree) and as well as being able to help others it also valuable helps me complete my course, you remember things better if you teach someone else.

Tutoring Approach:
I often find the main issue people find is getting the information committed to memory, particularly with heavy subjects like law and history. (I'll deal with politics separately) And as such I generally do presentations which focus on getting the information you need, in this respect I always try to remind people that generally the information you'll need isn't over complex,only the analysis is which should always be treated as separate. Using this method when helping others I have seen that they almost always are able to better remember the important facts they need, whether they be facts, prime ministers or types of cheese.

The second element I split lessons into becomes a lot more relevant for politics. This is analysis, the criticisms made of other ideas. This is always where the real marks are and just like my previous answer I rest on the fact that people normally only ever find things difficult when they over complicate things for themselves. My focus on analysis is making it as simple as it always is and running people through slowly how you would make your approach on the analysis. I'll never tell them how to think about something but instead how they can articulate their own thoughts.

Whilst I haven't held an official teaching role, I've spent the last couple of years helping to mentor those around me when they needed it. I find it incredibly rewarding to break down harder concepts that people often find 'scary' into more manageable steps. For example, I previously tutored a friend in GCSE Maths who was consistently stuck on a grade 4-5. By focusing on consistently appearing topics that could also appear in larger mark questions, like SURDs and completing the square, I helped her build the confidence to tackle the higher-tier papers. I've used this to my advantage to turn it into my greatest teaching strength: I use my iPad to make every session interactive.I do this by breaking down complex topics with live diagrams, graphs, and real-life examples to break down exactly how a concept works. I also use the 'I do, we do, you do' approach to help build a genuine understanding of the topic. First, I model exactly how to tackle a high-mark exam question. Next, we collaborate on a second question and work through the steps required together.
