Tutoring Approach:
I adapt my teaching methods to the needs of the tutee: adults learn differently from teenagers, one is focused on conversation while the others are quite honestly more focused on passing an exam ;)
I'll try to follow as much as possible what is done in the classroom if the child already has French at school. Otherwise, I'll adapt my lessons to what the parents are expecting from me (whether the child's parents are French and would like their child to discover French litterature for example). I can also create lessons for a special objectives like spending holidays in France with friends and family we'll then concentrate on specific vocabulary and situations.
For adults: there again it all depends what you expect from those lessons. Do you already have some prior knowledge of the language or not? Do you have some specific objectives like buying a house in France or spending your holidays there? I'll adapt to your needs. We may most likely concentrate on vocabulary and situations and include grammar in as we go along.

A current A level tutee of mine told his father "I learnt more in that 2 hour session than I have all term at school" and his headteacher wrote to congratulate him on his improved grades. I lived and worked in France from 1982 to 1985. I have always spent the summer holidays from the age of 12 living with a French family and feel equally at home in France or England. From school age I knew I wanted to travel and find new places learning the language as I went. I enjoy reading, music, films and French food isn't bad either.

My initial teaching experience was with 'Le Club Francais' where I was in charge of a weekly after school club of 5 - 11 year olds. This was great fun as learning was channelled through games.
