Teaching Experience:
During my long service in the Pharma industry (~30 years), I have run many short courses and workshops. During 2005/6, I mentored a pupil (Year 10/11) at St. Peter's High School, Longsight, organised by the University of Manchester. In the past, I have also been responsible for organising and running the weekly classes at the Sikh Temple (Gurdwara), for teaching youngsters the Sikh way of life & Punjabi culture, in helping to improve their knowledge and integration into the Western Society over a period of ten years.

I can provide tuition to individual students (or small groups) in the form of friendly, relaxed lessons. Teaching sessions are always customised to meet the specific requirement of the students. I graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in English Literature, and then from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a BA in acting, where I was the recipient of the Noel Coward Scholarship from 2008-2011. My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material to build students' confidence. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative and effective approaches to study, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

Tutoring Approach:
Each child is different so my approach to tutoring depends on the child's needs and individual learning style. I assess each child and devise a learning plan to map out the steps to achieving their goal. At the end of every lesson I have a brief discussion with the parents about the material covered and the progress made in the lesson and suggest follow up activities they could use at home to reinforce the child's understanding. I use a range of age appropriate resources to support the students' learning and whenever possible computer based activities.

My students feel at ease to ask any questions to make sure they fully understand the information and skills being imparted to them.

As a basic resource, I use workbooks to identify areas of difficulty, then teach in depth using my own examples and explanations. I keep explanations light and include games to keep those with shorter attention spans occupied. Online, we use an interactive whiteboard to share homework, pdfs, and powerpoints. My lessons use verbal and visual explanations alongside examples to practise in order to cater for all learning styles.

Approach To Tutoring
-I ensure each style is personalised for each student as everyone has a different method of learning and to cater to this, I ask the student a few questions at the very start to inform how the lessons will proceed thereafter.

-I've seen a lot of students who find visual diagrams and drawings the best way to learn (it's how I learn best too) so I often explain concepts in graphical ways using my drawing tablet and other interactive applications such as Isaac Physics. I also use Isaac Physics to set homework.

-I like relating things to practical applications in the real world to make sense of topics. E.g I'll often use examples involving video games and flashy RGB custom computer rigs to engage teenagers studying computer science.

-Have taught a range of students. Some grasp a concept immediately and are able to visualise it easily and others that do not grasp concepts as easily. For those, I often revisit content and consistently quiz them.

-Have taught students with learning disabilities and have quickly adapted my style to suit their requirements, taking a calm, compassionate approach.

-As mark schemes seem to get stricter and stricter, I ensure my students hit the little details required to get all the marks and I provide nice ways of remembering the pointers.
