I am a fully qualified teacher and have worked as a private tutor since having my first child in 2009. I tutor Maths up to GCSE, offering exam preparation and last minute Easter holiday revision sessions. I also tutor English up to year 9 and specialise in 11+ preparation.

I have six years of full-time teaching experience, working within independent and state schools. In addition, I have tutored a range of children aged between 5 and 16 years of age, privately, and within schools for the National Tutoring Covid Catch-Up Programme. I offer face-to-face tuition which takes place at your home. I am a patient and caring person who can explain things clearly. In addition, I will take the time to ensure that your child understands a concept but I will also set high expectations to push them to achieve their full potential. If a student doesn't understand something, I don't assume they are incapable of understanding it. Sometimes it simply needs to be explained differently. My job is to find that explanation.

I am a strong believer in understanding rather than rote learning. I want students to understand what they are doing and why they are doing it, rather than simply memorising and reproducing something they have seen previously. Once a student genuinely understands a concept, they are much better equipped to apply it to unfamiliar questions.

I also encourage practical understanding. Particularly in Economics and Business, I frequently use real-world examples to make abstract theory more relevant and memorable. Where appropriate, I relate material to businesses, financial markets, government policy and situations students are likely to encounter outside the classroom.

As examinations approach, I increasingly focus on applying this understanding to exam questions. This includes question interpretation, structure, application, analysis, evaluation, time management and understanding exactly what examiners are looking for.

Finally, I believe successful teaching is ultimately about listening to your students. I constantly encourage students to question things and tell me when they don't understand or are unsure.

If a student appears hesitant, I will often ask open questions or ask them to explain the concept back to me. This allows me to understand their thought process rather than simply establishing whether they have arrived at the correct answer.

I have high expectations of my students and expect them to put effort into their studies, but I also want them to feel comfortable making mistakes. Mistakes are often the quickest way for me to identify exactly what a student doesn't understand and therefore what I need to explain differently.

Ultimately, my aim is to make students increasingly independent of me. A successful student should eventually have the knowledge, confidence and skills to tackle difficult problems themselves.

By 'doing' a learner learns and remembers. My initial training as a teacher has helped me to teach any subject effectively. Helping students overcome barriers to learning and making progress are the things I enjoy the most about teaching. I am genuinely passionate about my subjects and in seeing learners reach their potential. I too enjoy the challenge of mastering new things and embracing the notion that you never ever stop learning.

I'm an environmental scientist by training and I spent 16 years in the environmental chemistry sector before deciding that I wanted to teach.
I live in Little Sutton with my partner (also a teacher) and I have three children: Eleanor (19), Sarah (16) and Francis (13).
I have wide interests that include being out in the countryside a lot, cooking, fishkeeping and reading.

Teaching Experience:
During my time in industry I was heavily involved in the training and development of staff and this led neatly to my teaching career. I trained at the outstanding University Of Chester and worked across Wirral and Liverpool in a wide variety of primary school settings before teaching my own classes permanently and full time at schools in Birkenhead.
I relocated to North Wales in 2016, where I started to learn Welsh and to teach right across North Wales, from Wrexham to Llandudno and in primary and secondary schools. I have recently moved back to Wirral and so I teach in both countries now and I have built a reputation as a teacher with an outstanding rapport with children and the ability to teach children most subjects from age 4 to 16.

Tutoring Approach:
I will assess your child first, in order to gauge their strengths and areas for improvement and to benchmark their attainment, against which improvement can be measured.

I will spend time working with your child to understand their learning style 'mix' - this will allow me to tailor my approach to my teaching and to their learning.

It is important that children enjoy sessions, so wherever possible there will be fun!

My curricular strengths are English and maths, but I can also help out with 11 Plus and entrance exam preparation - verbal and non- verbal reasoning and mental maths. I am available in holidays also, if you want your child to catch up, or 'hit the ground running'on their return to school.

I currently tutor one student in maths, However my experience stems further than this as I have always tutored and taught friends through GCSE and A-levels. A key highlight of my background is that I self taught A-level further maths as it wasn't a subject they offered at my school. My name is Zoe, I'm a student at Magdalen College, University of Oxford. I am a final year law student reading for BA Jurisprudence. I tutor students to help them reach their goals of studying law at Oxbridge or Russell Group. I can help with LNAT practice, interviews, and personal statements. I also offer tuition for grammar school admission tests (11+ exam). I attended a grammar school and have tutored two successful candidates who passed the test with high marks and were accepted into their first choice grammar schools.

I am aiming to become a barrister and anything I earn will be used to support this goal :)

I have been teaching for five years. I teach leadership and life skills for the Sea Cadets to students aged 9-17. I have delivered LNAT sessions for sixth form students at Magdalen and delivered many outreach classes.
