During my long service in the Pharma industry (~30 years), I have run many short courses and workshops. I graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in English Literature, and then from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a BA in acting, where I was the recipient of the Noel Coward Scholarship from 2008-2011. I continually update my teaching, mainly through the National Education Union online training sessions. I am an enthusiastic qualified teacher with extensive classroom and private tutoring experience. I am currently not working in school full time as I am undertaking my Masters in Education at Reading University as well as caring for live my little boy, I am willing to teach online, travel to your home or a nearby suitable study space.

Teaching Experience:
I love teaching and believe that all children can excel. I have been teaching for over 15 years with a large proportion of my experience in years 5 and 6. I have been a SATs marker for over 10 years now so definitely know how to get the best out of children in preparation for success not only in their SATs but also secondary school. I work regularly with children who want to participate in the 11+ entrance exams and have experience in most Berkshire schools' entrance requirements.

Tutoring Approach:
My pupils often describe me as 'firm but fair' with lessons that are fun. I believe children are most productive when they are enjoying themselves whilst being challenged. Any child can learn if they are taught in a way that is engaging to them and ensures that their strengths and weaknesses are identified. With this in mind, I aim to make learning relevant to them and break everything down into manageable chunks. I believe that children should be in charge of their own learning and will therefore always ensure that their views are taken into consideration when teaching. I am a well-qualified and experienced private tutor working online, providing preparation and support for GCSE and IGCSE in English Language, English Literature and French (AQA / Edexcel / Cambridge etc) and for 11+ entrance exams in English and Verbal Reasoning (including CEM/GL style 11+).

I also teach English as a foreign language at all levels, including preparation for PET, FCE, CAE & CPE exams and IELTS and 'Life in the UK' for UK Citizenship, covering all aspects of English from Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing to Grammar and Pronunciation.

Teaching Experience:
On leaving Oxford University, I started out as a lecturer in French and English at Fareham College, Hampshire, where I taught Higher Education courses to both young and mature adults and was commended by the Principals for my students' achievements.
I used this initial experience to launch a successful career of private tutoring in England and France, with many students coming to me through personal recommendation.

Now, with over 20 years of teaching experience, I privately tutor a range of school-aged pupils from 6 to 16, both native English speakers and those for whom English is a second language. At 11+, 13+, GCSE and IGCSE, most of my pupils have successfully obtained places at top private secondary schools and 6th form colleges.

I also have a portfolio of private Chinese, Ukrainian, Russian, French and English adult students learning English as a foreign language, many of whom return year after year to pursue their learning to ever-higher levels and for the considerable pleasure that brings.

Tutoring Approach:
In my opinion the huge advantage of private one-to-one tuition, for both student and tutor, is that each lesson can be tailor-made to suit the student's particular needs perfectly, targeting and strengthening weaker areas while continuing to develop all-round confidence and ability. Lesson content can adapt flexibly from session to session and skills needing more attention can be frequently revisited.

My approach is caring and friendly, and I possess both endless patience and a sense of humour! I am enthusiastic about the subjects I teach and time and again I have seen that enthusiasm transfer itself to students as lessons progress. Encouragement is a great aid to achievement and it is very rewarding to see how this, in turn, leads to excellent results.

After teaching in north Wales for 12 years, I moved to Pembrokeshire and set up my tuition company, Pembrokeshire Tuition, in 2012. Passionate about teaching, I am happy to teach online, in person and glad to help with home schooling. My aim is to support students so that they don't find subjects daunting, and to help stretch others in order to reach towards their true potential. I am a huge believer in the importance of positivity, praise, encouragement and that there is no such thing as 'wrong', 'no' and all the other negatives that have such a detrimental effect on students. There's no red biro or crosses for me!
As well as a love of the outdoors, sport and music, I also play the bass guitar and continue to learn German in my spare time.

As a former Deputy Headteacher of a north Wales primary school, I have 12 years of teaching KS1 and KS2. I spent much of this time working with children with SEND. Since starting my tuition company, I have a further 16 years of tutoring (face to face and online) students from Key Stages 1,2,3,4 and adults too. As well as teaching a wide range of subjects, I have also successfully helped a number of students with entrance exam preparation and mentored a number of secondary students who have faced significant challenges with their schooling.

Tutoring Approach:
I like to support students in a stimulating, fun and successful manner, often creating my own worksheets to adapt to the needs of the student. A very patient, empathetic and highly experienced teacher/tutor, I have a very good sense of humour and like to see students gain confidence and skills so that they can tackle exams - and their future - more easily.
The prices listed are for an hour and don't include any travel expenses, but online prices are £28 for 45 minutes. Travel expenses are additional, but I aim to keep these low depending on the distance involved. If a student wishes fortnightly lessons, this is also something I might be able to arrange. I teach Welsh 2nd Language and adult beginners as well.
