I have a BA Honours Degree in English Studies from Aleppo University in Syria in 2000. I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. In 2002, I was fortunate in gaining a scholarship to study in the UK and was nominated to study in the department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. I found this course to be immensely useful to me as a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) professional as I was able to observe a range of different EAP (English for Academic Purposes)classrooms; make academic presentations and really developed my love of scholarship which fired me with the enthusiasm to read for a PhD degree. I finished my doctorate in TESOL at the University of Ulster entitled "EAP Teachers Approaches to Giving Written Feedback on Academic Writing in British and Syrian ELT Centres". . I am extremely interested in teaching the language skills (as my recent doctorate shows). I am extremely hard working and sociable. I have good comparative knowledge of Western and Islamic societies which I could share with students where pertinent. It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. One image for teaching English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) is that of a tapestry. I achieved my NQT status at the Blue School, Wells and held the leadership responsibilty for Citizenship Yr 7 to Yr 11. I also taught KS3 to KS5 History throughout my time there. In 2010 my son was born, moving to West Somerset as Head of History (again KS3 to KS5). I retired in 2017 to care for my youngest son, who in 2013 was born with Cerebral Palsy. I have spent 8 of my teaching years as a PGCE mentor and an NQT mentor- with two NQT's now teaching as Head of History at two private schools in Somerset- can provide details if needed.

I have a proven track record of driving significant improvements in student attainment and fostering a deep passion for the subject. For example, I introduced History as a coursework qualification for students who loved History yet found the content (reading exam questions) and expectations of a GCSE papers too much- succeeding with 100% pass and super happy faces on results day. I also introduced GCSE Citizenship to offer a wider range of critical thinking and analysis skills- ultimately helping subjects such as History, English and Life Skills. I I am DBS registered.

Personal Description:
I'm a qualified primary teacher currently teaching Year 4 and offering KS1-KS2 tutoring. Sessions are structured, supportive and tailored to individual needs. Please feel free to message me if you would like to chat further.

Teaching Experience:
I have experience working across the primary age range, specifically in Nursery and Years 2, 3, 4, and 5. This has given me a deep understanding of the EYFS framework and the Key Stage 1 and 2 National Curriculum. In my time in Year 4, I have successfully supported students through assessment periods, tailoring my support to help them achieve their learning targets in English and Maths. I am comfortable adapting my style for younger learners (using play-based learning) as well as older students (focusing on exam technique and deeper comprehension).
