I grew up in the UK and then worked in Indonesia for 10 years, teaching Indonesian scholars on pre-departure academic programs. I also taught cross-cultural and study skills courses. After Indonesia, I moved to Australia, where I worked at two universities in Brisbane, the University of Queensland and Queensland University of Technology. More recently I have worked on Exeter and Bath University's pre-sessional program. I'm a friendly, kind and patient person with a good sense of humour and I love teaching.

Many students say they are 'bad students' and this does not help their learning. So I show them a different path where they can look at the specifics of what they are doing and how they can improve their skills step by step. This makes them feel better about themselves and their studies. It also gives them responsibility for their own learning.

I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. I have taught English as a foreign language for over 20 years- in language schools, abroad and on-line. I have worked with professionals who want to develop their career, refugees and asylum seekers who are settling in the UK and anyone who is keen to improve their English.

I used to be a physiotherapist in the NHS, so if you work in healthcare I can especially help with medical English.

Tutoring Approach:
We can do lessons on-line or in person if you live in the Reading area. Setting goals will help you get the most out of the lessons- you may want to pass an exam, apply for a job or improve your everyday language. We can have fun lessons to help you achieve these goals. I will set homework to help you learn inbetween lessons and achieve your goals more effectively. During lessons we can use videos, online articles, games and much more to keep the lesson interesting and fun.
