More often than not, it is the large class sizes at school, or a teacher whose approach isn't the right fit, which explains why a student doesn't understand a particular subject, or particular topics within that subject.

Currently working as a Secondary MFL Teacher, I have extensive experience designing and delivering Spanish lessons from KS3 through KS5 and French at KS3. My experience includes leading A-Level literature modules (such as Como agua para chocolate), preparing Hong Kong students for IELTS exams with the British Council in Hong Kong, teaching English in Italian classrooms, and running both online and in person 1-on-1 Spanish tutoring for learners. My approach to tutoring is highly personalised to each student's strengths, needs and learning type.

Language goes beyond just memorising vocabulary; it's about building confidence, demystifying grammar, and turning knowledge into natural communication. I break down complex linguistic concepts into manageable, engaging steps tailored to a specific learning style. Whether a student is aiming for top grades in their GCSEs/A-Levels, or simply want to build conversational fluency, I aim create a supportive, motivating environment designed to drive measurable progress.

For KS3 students, I use sentence builders as a baseline for word order, giving students a clear scaffold to construct their own sentences. By combining this with targeted questioning and active Assessment for Learning (AfL) such as mini-whiteboards with conjugations and translations, I ensure I can continuously check for understanding, address misconceptions in real time, and stretch every student at their own pace.

At GCSE and A-Level, I am most familiar with the AQA specifications. At KS4 the goal is moving students from scaffolded language to accurate output across the four core skills. I have made a set of online flashcards for every GCSE module for students to learn as homework. I create model answers for the writing exams, and decode it with the students according to the mark scheme so that students see exactly what earns top marks.

At KS5, I put focus on language becoming a tool to analyse societal issues, culture, literature and film. I have created an in-depth study guide for Como agua para chocolate with a strict step-by-step approach to tackling a high-levelled critical analysis essay. I have been the A-Level speaking examiner for Spanish students in my school, so I am knowledgeable on the mark scheme and requirements for high grades.

I am a marketing communications specialist with an extensive background in teaching English and English as a Second Language. I possess both a Bachelor of Education in English Language and Literature, as well as a Masters in Marketing. Furthermore, I recently completed a 120-hour course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I have lived across three continents over the past 20 years, broadening my cultural awareness and furthering my understanding of the needs of English language learners. I am a teacher at heart and have a passion for helping students reach their goals by advancing their English language skills. I have a particular interest in teaching Business English to professionals wishing to develop their communication skills in the workplace. Tutoring Approach:
I encourage students to contribute their ideas as much as possible in my lessons. I prepare lessons thoroughly according to my student's needs and deliver relevant material to stimulate their interests and further their understanding of English in a real life context. I encourage students to speak out and be prepared to make mistakes, and I am willing to give instant or delayed correction as required to model the correct language. I believe there is always a place for teaching grammar points, however, my lessons are centred around real-life contexts and grammar teaching is embedded within that learning process. For every class I ensure there is great scope for conversation, both small talk and more structured discussions. Personal Description:
I have spent my life learning languages and have a degree in English and Spanish and other university level qualifications in French. I currently teach GCSE English Language at a local further education college and have recently moved to Bedfordshire and am interested in taking on some tuition classes at weekends and evenings. I do have experience of tutoring online as well as face to face.

Teaching Experience:
I have over 6 years tutoring experience with a great deal of success in both GCSE level and Scottish Highers courses in English, French and Spanish. I originally qualified as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language in Barcelona originally and have been developing linguistic and teaching skills ever since.

Tutoring Approach:
With regard to my approach to tutoring, I always put my students' requirements first and use these to dictate my lesson planning. Normally, I am working with a student towards an exam and part of my role is assisting the students to prepare for the exam and develop appropriate methods for tackling each question. As part of an initial needs analysis, I like to establish any gaps in knowledge that need to be worked on so that the student has the best preparation possible when taking their exam.
