I was Head of performing arts in a school in Dorset for seventeen years. During that time I worked extensively with children of all ages. The demands of online teaching have led me to expand my skills. I am confident with public speaking, since I have been performing in diverse venues for nearly 10 years. I have an MA in Acting and an MA in Theatre & Performance Studies. I am a 36 year Deputy Head Teacher living in Glasgow. I relocated from Blackpool 12 years ago! I have a degree in drama followed by a post graduate degree in primary education from Lancaster; as well as various sports coaching qualifications.

I am a primary school teacher but I also have experience of working with high school aged children, particularly in maths. Most of my experience comes in the 5-11 age bracket.

Teaching Experience:
I have 3 years experience in teaching English to young individuals and 2 years experience in teaching Greek to adults. I always want to give students an active learning and the opportunity to speak and "play" with the language. I can also teach Drama and help with undergraduate and masters. I have worked in theatre for forty years as an actor, director, Artistic Director, playwright and teacher. After a drama degree, I trained as an actor and worked for ten years in fringe, rep, and educational theatre with a little TV on the side. I then moved into directing and writing and - eventually - teaching. I have worked with all ages from small children to older people in care; youth theatre, new writing, touring theatre and regional rep as both director and Artistoic Director. I have taught at several leading drama schools.

I have taught at Rose Bruford College of Speech & Drama, The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, LAMDA, Italia Conti and had a 25 year association with Drama Studio London during which time I taught sight reading, was a personal tutor, directed productions and had spells as Head of Year (One & Two Year Programmes) and Co-Artistic Director.

I live in Edinburgh with my husband, two sons and our dog. I have had a varied career path, starting as an English Language teacher working in Italy, London and Edinburgh for ten years. In my early thirties I decided to start working as a theatre director and moved to combine EFL teaching with theatre work. Since 2005 I have also worked as a university teacher and have developed a strong skill-set in study skills teaching.
I enjoy reading, hill walking and gardening and home cooking.

Teaching Experience:
I am a highly experienced teacher and have worked in education for over twenty-five years. I have worked part-time as a university lecturer for fifteen years across undergraduate and post-graduate programmes and have particular skill in developing students' study skills and supporting reading and writing development. I can tutor students across a range of arts and humanities subjects to develop the skills they need to succeed at university.

I also have experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language to all levels from Begnner to Advanced levels including preparation for Cambridge exams and IELTS.

Tutoring Approach:
I am a friendly and reassuring tutor and I really enjoy getting to know my students and taking time to ensure that they feel comfortable and clear with what they are learning.
I am highly organised and punctual and like to be well-prepared for the sessions I deliver to ensure students get the most out of our time together. I usually set independent work between sessions and mark prior to a session so no time is wasted. I am happy to teach students in my home or at their home.

I am a very experienced teacher of English and Drama at GCSE, A-level, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I believe that every student has the potential to make progress and that with the right direction this is possible. In my experience students develop in a supportive environment and I work hard to make this a key part of my teaching practice. This is based on my teaching experience that ranges from year 7 to postgraduate, through which I have developed an excellent understanding of learning styles and how they impact exam results.

I am currently Curriculum Leader for KS4 GCSE English Literature/Language in a school. This means that I manage the progress of 1200+ students as they prepare for exams. I provide GCSE English training to staff and have consulted at other institutions.

I have also had Examiner training for GCSE English Language.

I work to identify areas of concern and ensure that we are focused on closing any gaps in knowledge in a friendly and supportive way. Lessons and homework is supported with excellent quality materials, which I write myself. These and other strategies ensure that students feel confident about their work and are able to apply their knowledge in exams.

As well as being a full-time private tutor for nearly 15 years, I have a background in comedy, writing and performance. I've published three humour books and continue to write for theatre companies and private events. I also love art and illustration, and try incorporate this into my teaching where possible - for all ages! I currently live in South-West London with my husband and two young children.

Teaching Experience:
Since 2010 I have taught hundreds of students aged 3 to adult, including high-profile clients, international placements, EFL pupils & students with complex learning needs. I have also worked as an Assistant Course Director at Pilgrims Language School and a Shakespeare Expert at ICES University in France.

Tutoring Approach:
At the heart of my teaching is the firm belief that students should truly enjoy whatever they are learning. With this in mind, my chief aim is to create a comfortable and fun environment that inspires genuine engagement. My degree also involved the study of the psychology of education, which has given me a keen understanding of the unique requirements of each pupil. I have found my approach to consistently generate outstanding results!
