Having a PhD and a 1st Class Degree in Computer Science from Sheffield University, I have a great deal of experience in everything from general programming to academic research. I worked for a decade as an academic at both Sheffield and Surrey Universities. I have helped many students through their studies at GCSE and A-level, teaching AQA, OCR and CIE syllabuses. For A-level and GCSE students it is worth beginning tuition as soon as possible, not just in the weeks running up to exams (although this can still help). My Second master degree is in Computer Applications, with distinctions. I have published one academic paper so far. Recently I have completed management certification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

I have the diverse skillset. That ranges from Computer science to the core web development. I have a full stack programming experience which includes - PHP, JAVA, hybrid mobile app development, web services, front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS, etc.) And, databases like MySQL.

Recently I have finished teaching JAVA and Hybrid Mobile App development.

Hello! I'm Garrie, a tutor for Maths/Physics/Engineering/Chemistry/Computing at university and secondary school level, and one of the top-rated tutors in Scotland.

I am a full-time tutor, with a background in academic teaching and research, having previously held posts as Research Assistant / Teacher at the University of Glasgow's School of Engineering.

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2011 with a first class B.Eng. (Hons) in Aeronautical Engineering, finishing at the top of my class. I also previously conducted postgraduate research and teaching duties at the University of Strathclyde.

Students will have a say in what they learn from me, and how we approach it, helping me to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and structure a learning programme that complements them.

I intend for my students to gain a solid foundation and interest in their subject, and develop their own revision skills to improve their capacity for independent learning - it isn't just about passing the exam, but about nurturing an interest the subject and developing skills for the future.

I believe that the best way to learn is to enjoy yourself while doing it, so I aim to keep the sessions engaging for the student.

I am not a secondary school teacher, and do not teach like one. Feedback from clients suggests that the approach of many teachers doesn't resonate with all students, often failing to inspire them/their children to take an interest in a subject that could be interesting for them if they were introduced to it from the correct perspective. I aim to provide that missing perspective - expanding on what's taught in the classroom and filling in the gaps are left in the classroom.

In the years 1998-2005 I worked in the IT industry. My responsibilities mainly covered administrating Operating Systems and troubleshooting computer networks in small to medium businesses. I spent most of my time working with customers troubleshooting problems. I found I had a natural talent in communicating with people in a respectful and considerate manner. It also led me to improve my customer service skills which I continue to find useful as a teacher at City College Plymouth.
I have been studying a Computer Networks degree (graduated 2014) and MSc Network Systems Engineering (finishing in March 2018) at Plymouth University.
I am enthusiastic and well-organized with sterling interpersonal and communication skills.

Teaching Experience:
For the last four years I have been teaching IT, Maths and Engineering at the college, delivering lessons for levels 3-5. Alongside teaching I have achieved my certificate in Award in Education and Teaching and currently I am undertaking level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
