After completing my D.Phil from the University of Oxford, I worked for 7 years as a Senior Biologist for a small drug discovery company where I was responsible for screening new drug targets in tissue models for human disease. During the last three decades I have worked with numerous students and have read research studies from academics around the world on the subject of attainment in mathematics. My own experience is in keeping with all the studies I have read about this topic. Even after only six to eight weeks of tuition, all the students I have tutored have improved by at least one grade or one level.

I tell all prospective pupils there is no magic bullet or shortcut. To achieve success in mathematics a few things are key: understanding the concept well; understanding when and how to apply it in different situations; lots of practice in applying it in different scenarios and short, regular revision sessions. So my only pre-conditions before I agree to work with any student are: a positive attitude; a commitment to put in the time and effort required to bring about the improvement in their grades; and at least one ninety minute session every week.

It is important to me that students should enjoy mathematics and look forward to their sessions with me. To ensure this I use a variety of different resources to explain concepts to students and am a firm believer in using physical and computer based study tools and aides to complement the standard oral and written tools used to teach mathematics. My name is Beth, I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham. Outside of tutoring, I spend lots of my time playing the flute, reading, and hiking! I'm looking forward to beginning this tutoring journey in a fun, creative and beneficial way .

Teaching Experience:
I have experience tutoring one to one close friends and family but I believe I am suited to further tutoring since I already have quite a lot of experience in supporting and facilitating young people in scouting since I am an experienced scout leader in the Winchester district. I also would say I have a recent and relevant understanding of the GCSE syllabus and examinations, especially in the sciences since I am currently taking a Bsc Environmental Science degree and my passion for science has only grown since I took my GCSE's.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring will be adapted specially to each student, depending on how they prefer to be taught but also recognizing weaknesses in the syllabus and working on those until overall confidence is build. I hope to teach in a creative, interactive way that will not only build confidence in the syllabus but also in exam technique and exam nerves too, especially for GSCE students. I am happy to teach all exam boards of combined Science GSCE and the sciences separately too.

I am a qualified FE teacher in biology and STEMs. I have a Milan University masters degree in biological sciences, a PhD in Molecular Medicine and a Cardiff University PGCE in postgraduate certificate in post-compulsory education and training. I also teach my subject in a FE college at the outskirts of London.

Teaching Experience:
I have a lifelong experience in teaching STEMs and biology-related subjects from secondary to undergraduate level. I worked for universities, colleges, secondary schools, and, educational companies both in the state run and in the private sector.

Tutoring Approach:
I design and develop learning outcomes on knowledge, understanding, professional-practical and key skills. I create and curate learning materials and implement formative assessments according to tailored learning criteria with thoroughly thought through feedback. I communicate with students on learning to enhance development and self-awareness. My students always achieved to the highest of standards with excellent results.

Personal Description:
As a recently retired Chartered Engineer I'm looking to help students to improve, and gain confidence in, their maths or science skills. This might be helping with subjects that the student finds difficult, catching up with missed work, assisting with coursework, or stretching a budding genius

Teaching Experience:
I have been providing personal tuition to students for about 10 years. I only take on a couple of students at a time so that I can spend enough time with them. Most of my students have come to me through word of mouth.

Tutoring Approach:
Try to understand what the student finds difficult and focus on the big issues.
