Teaching Experience:
I have been tutoring privately for 20 years and have seen my students grow in confidence, understanding and knowledge of their chosen topics. I saw a girl who I tutored for 7 months go from getting an 'Unclassified grade' in her Biology AS Level to a B in her A2. I have never seen a student of mine's grades stay the same post-tutoring and I am very proud of that.

Tutoring Approach:
I approach tutoring different ways depending on who the student is. I ask them questions about themselves, hobbies, favourite subjects etc; and then using that to better understand how they learn, I talk to them about their private learning and revision and the method of approach to that and to exams. And then I teach them using the method appropriate to their style of learning. I also set plenty of work and get them to do past papers which I send to them in the first week. I then take these away and mark them in my own time and return with a deeper view of where they are going wrong after they have been taught. I do 2hr concentrated sessions either weekly or fornightly and have seen great results not only in grades but also in enthusiasm for learning. I am also on hand to discuss career and university options too, which helps ease the daunting choices the students have to make.

I currently lecture at the University of Salford and have over 28 years of teaching experience. I'm a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Visiting Lecturer at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and also teach in São Paulo, Brazil. I've worked extensively in higher education, including as an assessor for university teaching qualifications and an external examiner for several universities. I have been tutoring privately for over a decade. I began teaching in a professional capacity whilst working in a hospital environment where I became a Clinical Educator for undergraduate Physiotherapy students from Universities in the region. However, I am aware that private tuition is a serious commitment, and there must be a clear structure to the sessions. I am familiar with the syllabi for OCR, AQA, and Edexcel for GCSE, A-level, and degree courses. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutee's requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning. The tutee largely dictates the structure of the sessions, including the subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style, which can be discussed during the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted accordingly.

I believe the greatest benefit of 1:1 tutoring (or tutoring small groups), is that it is so much easier to tailor the learning to the student's needs, aiding understanding and building on that towards mastery of a subject. I am an artist and qualified primary school teacher interested in textiles, printmaking and material design. My degree was in History of Art and Material Studies so I love all things art. I like finding out how the world around me works, and am keen to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm to others. I also enjoy making or tinkering with things - I have customised a button accordion to play bass notes more flexibly, and have added extra buttons to video game controllers. In school I designed and constructed a solar-powered light of adjustable brightness. Patterns appeal to me. When I am not involved in science, I do Scottish Country Dancing, as well as many other genres of folk dancing with intricate symmetrical dance figures. My study of several languages, including Latin and German, allows me to identify parts of scientific terms that I can use to help my students understand them - for instance a recently discovered non-repeating tile is named Einstein not after the physicist but because only one ('ein') type of tile or stone ('stein') is needed to make the pattern. I find Richard Feynman inspiring. He himself got into science through tinkering and discussions with his father about how things worked. He spoke on beauty in nature, and that scientific understanding only enhances its appreciation - as well as seeing the beauty of a flower, a scientist can also wonder at its smaller structure, and how it developed to attract insects to pollinate it. What does this tell us about how bees see the world?

I have three years' experience conducting tutorials in Materials Science at Cambridge University, having myself studied Natural Sciences there, including Physics and Chemistry. In addition to the course material provided by the university and my own worked solutions to the problems, I used physical models in the teaching that I had made myself.

I am a 39 year old male that has been a Science teacher for 13 years. I had been an Assistant Curriculum Leader of Science in Nelson for a number of years, and I am now a Progress Leader of Science in Bradford.
Teaching appealed to me from the very first day of my PGCE and found the challenge of teaching the kids of today refreshing. I am married and live in Batley.

Teaching Experience:
I have over 10 years of teaching experience at 2 different schools, and currently work as a Progress Leader of Science at a comprehensive school in Bradford. I have obtained several years of exam results that have been well above average in terms of Progress 8, with some classes having obtained on average, 1 grade higher per student.
I have several years of previous experience in tutoring and have undertaken numerous after school revision classes designed to aid students to improve their chances in GCSE exams. I have also performed some mentoring for select students using more one-on-one time for those students that require the extra help.
In addition to this, I am an examiner for several exam boards, as well as a Team Leader for OCR. This experience has allowed me the opportunity to better prepare students for exams.

I will initially require all the details about the tutee's course at school as well as the grades/levels that they have obtained so far. It will also help to know of the tutee's target grade in the subjects to be tutored. As mentioned before, I will spend time outside the hour preparing resources and planning appropriately so that it maximizes the use of the hour. I will spend the necessary time dedicating my resources to helping you achieve to your potential.

As a recently retired Chartered Engineer I'm looking to help students to improve, and gain confidence in, their maths or science skills. This might be helping with subjects that the student finds difficult, catching up with missed work, assisting with coursework, or stretching a budding genius
