Each student is different, and I feel it an insult to my students' integrity to tell them how to revise when first meeting them. Through my experience teaching, there is no right way to study, but there are a variety of 'better' ways to make the best grades for each person's potential.

Many students approach me frustrated that they often don't achieve the same calibre as their peers despite the hours they put in. Often it is due to the fact that they aren't their peers and a different approach to revision and homework is required. I believe in working smart before working hard.

I have taught at both primary- and secondary-school levels, with my students ranging between the ages of 6 and 16.

I am a UK qualified teacher with 20+ years' teaching experience. I graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc (Hons) in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2003 and a year later completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the same university. I currently teach all GCSE sciences as well as Year 12 and Year 13 A Level Chemistry at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. I work for the Cambridge International Exam Board, being an experienced marker of A Level chemistry. In 2025 the A-level classes I taught achieved on average a whole grade higher than other students studying AQA chemistry nationally, which put my results firmly in the outstanding category as measured by ALPS.

In person I am able to offer in-person tuition in and around the Derby, Ashbourne and Uttoxeter areas. I also offer remote learning via MS Teams.

Tutoring Approach:
I work exclusively online via Zoom, with a shared interactive whiteboard, structured homework, and direct email communication between sessions.

Each engagement begins with a diagnostic session. I assess the student's current level, identify the specific gaps in their understanding, and build a tailored programme from there. Every student receives a strategy designed around their syllabus and their individual goals.

Typical sessions combine targeted concept work and past-paper practice. Between lessons, homework is prepared and shared on the whiteboard; I follow up by email once it is ready. Progress is reviewed continuously, and the plan is adjusted accordingly.

My students are expected to invest effort between sessions and complete their homework. I work with a small, carefully selected cohort of students each term. Places are limited and not all enquiries are accepted. I hold a current PVG Scheme certificate and am fully vetted. I'm Ela and I'm a second year chemical engineering student at the University of Bath. I have always loved working with younger people and teaching. I am fluent in both Turkish and English so I can tutor in both languages!

Teaching Experience:
I have tutored maths and chemistry previously in my school, helping students do the questions they struggle with and go through topics they can't wrap their heads around. Alongside my degree I also coach gymnastics to children of different levels and ages. These experiences have taught me how to adopt different teaching methods to different kids and how to make sessions more fun and interactive!

I`ve found the more casual approach you get from teaching one student in their own home gives them so much more confidence and security than they have at school which makes it so much easier to understand their problems and work through things together.

I have experience teaching Maths and Science in several schools in Derbyshire and south Yorkshire, and have been tutoring privately for the last two years. I attained a BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Nottingham and A*A*AA is Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Further Maths at A-level.

I opt for a more relaxed approach as I find student comfortability to be the most important factor for learning. Sessions are very interactive with the idea of helping the student understand where they are going wrong and what gaps they have. I am very analytical behind the scenes, building a bespoke portfolio that will inform the direction of future sessions.

I think students find the casual conversational learning to be a breath of fresh air. Many feel cramped and uncomfortable in a classroom so being able to just discuss things freely with no fear of judgement is a huge help. In my experience students always undersell themselves, so I make a point out of showing them how much they already know, which helps them feel more confident from the offset
