Personal Description:
I have 30 years experience of teaching Chemistry and Biology at all levels up to A Level, and I am still teaching. This includes 7 years as Head of Department, and I am currently teaching A-Level Chemistry and Biology, plus Access courses, at a central London college.

I have 17 years experience as an examiner for OCR, Edexcel and AQA in both Chemistry and Biology at A Level and GCSE Science. I am familiar with all major exam boards in Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Science. I have also been a personal tutor for the past 28 years.

Since the lockdown I have taught hundreds of hours online and have found it to be nearly as effective as face to face teaching. This allows lessons to be clear, interactive and well resourced whether we are working through revision notes, past papers or complex diagrams.

I have been a teacher for many years having received my PGCE in 1992. Since that time I have worked in a variety of schools in the state and private sectors both in London and Oxfordshire. I started my career as a Chemical Engineer and completed my PhD in that subject.

I'm Ela and I'm a second year chemical engineering student at the University of Bath. I have always loved working with younger people and teaching. I am fluent in both Turkish and English so I can tutor in both languages!

Teaching Experience:
I have tutored maths and chemistry previously in my school, helping students do the questions they struggle with and go through topics they can't wrap their heads around. Alongside my degree I also coach gymnastics to children of different levels and ages. These experiences have taught me how to adopt different teaching methods to different kids and how to make sessions more fun and interactive!

We can discuss your goals and create a pathway on how to achieve these goals! I can also help and introduce students on different unis and uni courses as making a decision when I was applying to uni was quite challenging for me so I have done loads of research!

I am a dedicated and approachable tutor based in Nottingham, with a passion for helping students build confidence and achieve their academic potential. I tutor Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology up to GCSE level, and I particularly enjoy making challenging topics easier to understand by breaking them down into clear, manageable steps. I currently work full-time at a PRU in Nottingham, alongside tutoring a number of private students. I have been teaching and tutoring since 2008 and have extensive experience supporting students up to GCSE level in Maths and the sciences. I currently work full-time at a PRU in Nottingham, where I work with young people with a range of abilities, backgrounds and individual learning needs. Alongside this, I tutor a number of private students on a one-to-one basis. This experience has helped me develop a flexible approach to teaching, allowing me to identify gaps in a student's knowledge and adapt my lessons accordingly. I have experience helping students prepare for GCSE examinations, improve their understanding of difficult topics and, importantly, develop greater confidence in their own abilities.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is based on patience, encouragement and adapting my teaching to the individual student. I believe that students learn best when they feel comfortable, supported and able to ask questions without fear of getting something wrong. I take time to understand each student's strengths and weaknesses before breaking topics down into clear, manageable steps. I use straightforward explanations, worked examples and plenty of practice to build understanding and confidence, while regularly checking that the student has fully understood the material.

I believe that learning is most effective when students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and exploring ideas. My aim is to help each student make progress while developing a positive attitude towards learning.

Teaching Experience:
I have a Master's degree in Medicine, Science and Society from King's College London and decades of experience tutoring students on an individual basis. This has given me extensive experience adapting lessons to different abilities, learning styles and needs, as well as helping students prepare for exams and develop their understanding and confidence.

Tutoring Approach:
My main focus is on building confidence, as I find that confidence not only improves understanding but also encourages students to practise and engage with their learning. I aim to make lessons interesting and relevant by connecting topics to real-world applications and, where possible, the student's own interests. I adapt my approach to each individual, creating a supportive environment where students can ask questions, learn from mistakes and enjoy making progress.
