Students may ask to recap concepts and theories that aren't fully understood, however in my experience most require help with exam technique, and how to translate their knowledge into a high grade answer. I therefore place a great emphasis on guiding students through the process of answering past paper questions, across all topic areas. In our sessions I will help with essay structure, illustrate how to use higher order analytical and evaluation skills, and crucially, how to apply an answer to information in a case study, or how to bring in real world examples.

Over the years I have taught an increasing proportion of students online, so that currently about 90% of my tutoring is done this way. I use Skype/Google Meet/Zoom and Google Docs, which students can also access. This makes the sessions as interactive as meeting face to face, and it also means I can tutor students from anywhere in the world (I have taught people in South Africa, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Spain, France, Serbia, Russia, Montenegro and Bermuda). "Matt only got an E grade in his February A2 mock exam and the school predicted he would get a C grade at A2. With the significant assistance from Ian, Matt achieved an A* at A2. During the first session I present a short questionnaire that I ask the student to fill in (honestly!) in order for me to assess their individual learning styles (right brain vs. left brain, use of visual stimuli etc), so that I can respond best to their needs. As a private maths and science tutor my aim is to help students understand these subjects better and achieve exam success. My nature is calm and relaxed combined with a drive for accuracy and precision.

I have a degree in physics from Exeter University and a doctorate in physics from Manchester University as well as A levels in maths, physics and chemistry and a post-graduate business qualification.

My daughter, who graduated from Oxford University, is now an accountant in London and so I now live in Bollington with just my wife and black Labrador, Mabel.

During the past year I have coached students for Maths A level, Physics A level, Chemistry A level, Maths GCSE and Biology GCSE.

Previously, during my academic career, I tutored many undergraduate science students. Subsequently I worked as a management consultant, explaining difficult technical concepts to a large number of diverse individuals.

Teaching Experience:
Since I'm a University student, I prefer conducting online classes the most where it can suit my lecture/tutorial schedule the best ! I'm a very bubbly and cheerful person, so studying won't all just be books and papers, chit chats will be coming in the full package as well ! I've tutored kids between the age of 5-10 before for English so I believe my patience level is well equipped as one the top qualities I have as a teacher ! Just remember, being 'gifted' or not doesn't matter ! Studies all honestly revolve around your effort and originality to it ! If 'gifted' people can memorize/learn content easily on their second try, I'll just do it on my fifth try then.
