I have been the Head of Accounting since 2006, at a large Catholic Sixth Form College in Hulme, Manchester. I am 46 years old, living in Didsbury, South Manchester. I gained my degree in Economics and Finance in 1998 from Leicester University. I began teaching in 2002 so have many years of experience teaching Accounting.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is tailor-made, meaning that I am always seeking to adjust to the particular needs of each student. In some sessions, especially those that are close to the exam period, I focus on developing their exam skills and go through some well-tested revision techniques.

For all sessions, the objective is to make the class as interactive as possible. I follow the "Socratic" approach to learning, whereby I guide my students towards obtaining the correct answers with a series of well-placed questions rather than providing the answers straight away. Lastly, I advocate an empirical understanding of theoretical concepts, thus frequently referencing real-world examples from my work in finance and seeking to bring theory to life through life examples, cards, games, and financial trading.

I am very patient and endeavor to build a strong working relationship with my students based on honesty and openness. I have high expectations of myself and my students, and as a result, I can be very demanding yet always committed to helping them achieve their goals. I pride myself in my RELIABILITY - meaning that I will never abandon a student before the exams or any other key commitments that he/she might have. I ensure **CONTINUOUS SUPPORT** for students, and I make myself available for questions via phone or e-mail throughout the day, outside class hours, and free of charge. I am always OPEN TO FEEDBACK from the student, and I expect an honest relationship and communication with them. My approach to Tutoring is one on one, each student is unique, with different learning abilities, and prefer different learning styles. There is no one size fits all lesson. I'm a very experienced, qualified A-Level Accounting teacher, having taught the subject in sixth form colleges for over 10 years. I understand that Accounting can be a difficult subject to master, with its own unique language and techniques, and I am able to explain topics clearly and patiently. I believe that interactive lessons are key to success and that learning comprises both explanation and practise. I can help students to overcome their anxiety about this subject and, through improved knowledge and understanding, increase their confidence. I am very familiar with the AQA specification, having attended relevant training sessions, and I know what's needed to achieve high marks on exam questions. I have an excellent track record of exam results, with most students achieving very high grades and progressing to their preferred university. I have a degree from the University of Warwick, and I am a fully qualified accountant (CIMA). I have 8 years of prior experience working in Finance in industry, including Cadbury Ltd and KPMG. I welcome the opportunity to help students who are struggling with Accounting. Having experience in both 1-1 tuition and teaching, I firmly believe that I can help all students to achieve their potential.

I have taught A-Level Accounting in sixth form colleges for over 10 years. Prior to that, I taught the professional accounting qualifications: CIMA, ACCA and AAT. I am a fully qualified teacher. I am an expert in A-Level Accounting, and have attended AQA training sessions. I am a fully qualified CIMA accountant, and have worked in industry, meaning that I have 'real life' experience of accounting and finance.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that the key to successful tutoring is to listen to what a student needs, and then to respond by providing support and guidance that target those particular areas. A key component of tutoring is explaining key terms and concepts and answering questions. Practise is vital in A-Level Accounting, and so I provide lots of opportunity for the tutee to answer accounting questions. I provide support during this, and feedback. Developing a good working relationship with the student is very important - the tutee needs to trust me to do a good job. I think I can provide this: I am patient, understanding, kind and considerate. I can offer these things in addition to the technical knowledge and skills that I have, and as a result, dramatically improve the tutee's chances of success in the A-Level Accounting exams.
