I currently Subject Lead in Art and Design in a secondary school in Bishops Stortford and have a first class honours degree in Illustration and extensive skills in digital media including web design, image manipulation and design for print. Particular strengths of mine are life drawing and painting. I also have skills in textiles, quilt making, sewing and other crafts. I often like to introduce my students to new ways of working by combining media in creative ways. I have a PGCE in Secondary Art and Design as well as an MA in Art and Design in Education. I have successfully led groups of students through GCSE and A level courses in Art, Design, Graphics and Photography for over 13 years. I enjoy the creative process, especially when it is shared with others and I pride myself on helping students achieve the highest levels in public examinations. My students regularly achieve A*/level 9 and in the June 2024 series one of my A level students was commended as receiving one of the highest marks in the country from the exam board OCR. I can also advise on higher education courses and portfolio presentation for university application.

I currently subject lead in a successful secondary school in Bishops Stortford I have worked in three schools across East London as part of my PGCE course and I have subsequently completed my NQT year in Dagenham Park Church of England School where I successfully led students of all ages through KS3, KS4 and KS5 curriculum and examination requirements.

I am available to tutor in students homes if appropriate however I also have a home studio equipped with screen printing equipment, sewing machine and ample working space, as well as digital imaging software. I am the mum of two children and step mum to three more. I home educated my two children from when they were 12, and helped them to get 16 IGCSEs and GCSEs between them. One has since gone on to university following A levels at sixth form college, and the other has graduated from an art and design diploma with D*D*D*, the highest grade possible.

I have a degree in geography and topographic science, and I am very flexible when it comes to helping students to understand what they are learning.

Teaching Experience:
I have been tutoring since 2008, when my son left secondary school to begin home education. Since then I have taken him, my daughter and three of their friends through eleven different subjects at GCSE level. Most were the harder IGCSEs, while a few were GCSEs.

Once they had moved on to sixth form college I began tutoring other children, both home educated and in the schooling system. I have successfully worked with a wide range of ability levels, from students who came for tutoring because they were afraid that they were going to fail in every subject, to A* students. I have a comprehensive knowledge of the syllabi of most subjects, particularly those in which I offer my tutoring services, and can flexibly work with students at any stage of their education up to GCSE exams.

In the past few years I have been working with students who have dyscalculia (whether officially diagnosed or not), and have had considerable success in helping them to pass their maths GCSEs.

Tutoring Approach:
I help students to find the places where they are stuck or not understanding, and first work with those. It often happens in school that students miss a key explanation, whether through absence or simply through the teacher not ensuring that they have fully understood before they move on, and from then onwards the effects of this will multiply. If they can put good foundations in place then they find that they understand far more than they thought they could, and they can build on this more quickly and easily than they ever thought possible.

My philosophy is that if the student hasn't understood what they are being taught, then it is up to me to find more ways of explaining it until they do. I am happy to work with home educated and school students, for extended periods or for just a few sessions leading up to the exams.

I am a professional in the Wine Industry, having previously worked for the mass participation sport company that organised the Barcelona Marathon. I specialise in teaching A-Level Maths and Further Maths. I teach using clear exposition and by giving many examples. I have a massive database of resources including questions from both past exam papers and questions tailored to the common difficulties experienced by students in each topic. I believe the best way to learn A-Level Maths is by practice and experience of as many questions and problem types as possible. Having a tutor who is able to guide you through these problems and select an appropriate follow up task whilst also being able to identify key areas in need of development will give you a great advantage in your final exams.

I have been teaching Maths and Further Maths in schools and specialist A-level colleges since 1999.
I moved over to full time private online tuition in 2021. Prior to that I was the head of the Mathematics department in a private sixth form college for many years, taught intensive revision courses every Easter and gave classes to Oxbridge candidates who sat the various Oxbridge Maths entrance exams, I also coached for Maths competitions such as the British Mathematics Olympiad.
Now, as a private Tutor I continue to do all of the above privately and online.
During my time as a Head of Department I was continually exposed to discussion with exam boards about syllabus details and marking trends, this put me in a great position to advise students (and my staff) as to the best ways to go about tackling problems and the most effective way of presenting solutions to ensure maximum marks are gained.

I use Microsoft Teams for online teaching, which has some great features, such as file sharing, a chat system and automatic - outside classroom - access to any board work that is done during a lesson, which is great for students to review the lesson and to consolidate the parts of the lesson afterwards.
I have been teaching online lessons since 2019, both one to one individual tuition and larger groups, although I like to keep the group size to four or fewer. It is a highly convenient and safe way to teach for student and tutor alike and with the development of technology in recent years it has become my favourite way of giving private tuition.
