I have taught mathematics for over 20 years now and enjoy keeping up to date with lesson delivery, whilst maintaining a keen interest in how we learn about numbers and maths generally. Towards the end of my career I became interested in our parents and how many struggle with the often complicated explanations offered in some texts or online explanations. I am now semi retired and enjoy offering some simple private tuition in addition to continuing to work part time in schools. I am a friendly, down to earth tutor a good sense of humour.

Tutoring Approach:
I now mainly prefer to teach adults up to GCSE but as long as you can make daytime sessions I can help. I use an intuitive approach wherever possible. It has been noted that I explain concepts quite clearly and students can be surprised at the ease with which they pick up previously difficult concepts.

I also prepare students for exams and offer guidance on exam technique.

I am a native Russian speaker and a qualified Teacher with an MA from St Petersburg State University. I come from St Petersburg in Russia and have lived in the UK for 20 years. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and National Register of Public Service Interpreters. I conduct oral GCSE and A level Russian exams in schools. And my students normally get a full set of top marks each year. I can also prepare students for Russian state exams.

I am a freelance software developer and professional trainer who also provides one-to-one personal tuition services in computing, programming and IT related subjects. I took my first steps in programming as long ago as 1981, and have been a professional software developer since 1987. Along with the teaching and training side of my career, I develop software and web-sites for my clients, and I have been published several times in respected programming-journals.

I am also a BBC preferred-supplier, and am a professional life-member of the Association for Computing Machinery (founded in 1947 - the world's largest and most prestigious scientific and educational computing society). I have also published a book on the technicalities of e-book production.

I have provided private-tuition services since 1992, and was a lecturer at Roehampton University from September 1998 to October 1999. I am Latin and English teacher based in Oldfield Park, Bath. I have been teaching at Kingswood School in Bath since September 2019.

Teaching Experience:
I began teaching English to speakers of other languages in 2010 shortly after completing my CELTA qualification. Initially, I taught university students and young adults at language colleges in London, Perth and Sydney. In 2012 I was accepted onto the Teach First Leadership Development Programme, and began teaching English and Latin to students in a challenging secondary school in Chatham, Medway. In 2013 I moved back to London and began working in the Independent Sector, teaching Latin and Classical Civilization to GCSE and A-level. I'm Laurence. I attended the University of Oxford between 2010 and 2018, completing an undergraduate masters of mathematics (MMath) and a doctorate in mathematical biology (DPhil, PhD). I have 5+ years experience of tutoring the UK mathematics syllabus.

I've greatly enjoyed mathematics from an early age. On a personal level, I have found that studying mathematics has helped me appreciate the beauty of the universe - hence my specialism into applied mathematics.
