I am currently a lecturer on the BSc Psychology and Language science degree at University College London and a psychology examiner for AQA. Prior to this, I was Head of Psychology at a secondary school where I taught the AQA A-level psychology specification. I also introduced and taught Sociology A-level. I graduated in 2003 with a degree in Psychology from Durham University (First Class Honours) and have since completed a Masters degree in Cognitive Neuropsychology at The University of London, Birkbeck College and a PhD in Psychology at The University of London, Goldsmiths College.

Teaching Experience:
I have coordinated modules in developmental psychology and lectured undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have also taught A level psychology for over 10-years and sociology for 2-years. I have been an examiner and Team Leader for AQA Psychology for the past decade. I have tutored students preparing to sit both OCR and AQA A-level exams. I also have some experience supervising students preparing to take IB Psychology.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach is very much student-centred and I adapt my teaching style to the students in front of me. I like to present an idea/argument/concept and then allow my students the time they need to independently process and grasp the concept before asking them to explain it back to me using their own words. Once I am confident that my student has understood the concept we can then work through the application of this knowledge to practical exam-style questions to consolidate the knowledge and sharpen exam technique.

I hold an MA from The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and Kings College and graduated from Royal Holloway in 2011 with the highest degree grade of the graduate year. I'm a mathematician, living near Glasgow. Until recently, I was a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn, Germany. Before Bonn, I held research positions at Université Clermont Auvergne in France and at Lancaster University, and before that, did a doctorate in maths at Oxford. I'm free to offer tuition at my home in maths, and also offer online tutorials.

Teaching Experience:
I have extensive experience tutoring Mathematics at the Standard Grade, Higher and Advanced Higher levels (Scottish equivalent of GCSE and A-level), and at AS and A-level. I have also been a teaching assistant and college tutor for several undergraduate Mathematics courses, across a number of topics in algebra and analysis and at all levels, at Oxford. My approach in tutoring is oriented around the student: their expectations, background knowledge and way of thinking; and what they see as most important to focus on, be it a particular part of mathematics, or a certain type of problem. While it is useful and necessary for students to be familiar with certain recipes and templates for solving different types of problems, ideally, the aim is to give them a deeper understanding of the ideas behind the material they learn and the problems they are set. This provides a much firmer basis for an appreciation of mathematics and a greater problem solving ability.

After studying a Masters degree in Mathematics at Durham University, I worked in London in High Net Worth Tax for a big four firm and my current role is within University admissions. I received A* and A grades for all modules in my high school and maintained these grades at A-level.

My own personal experience of learning means that I can relate easily to the challenges and work load that 11+/GCSE/A-level/Degree students face. Learning how to learn is important for everyone and I can help students build their own study skills , developing both abilities and confidence. My own love for learning is evidenced by my hobbies which extend from sailing through to singing, piano, camping and walking and even the piano accordion. I enjoy science, and am keen to spark a similar interest in all my pupils in a way which is relevant to their personal ability and interest.

I have been teaching all my adult life; in schools, colleges, field study centres, adult education and in the home. Having started my career in 11-18 Educatio, teaching science , in outer London I straight away starting teaching 'A'level Biology at home to a poorly student. Other experience includes : centre manager, deputy principal and ESD manager for the county council as well as taking on regional/national roles in learning for sustainability. 9 years ago I returned to secondary school teaching and I have since taught GCSE Science (main focus on Chemistry and Biology) in five good and outstanding schools in Dorset, working with all the main exam boards. I have created an in-depth study guide for Como agua para chocolate with a strict step-by-step approach to tackling a high-levelled critical analysis essay. Hi there!
My name is Beth, I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham. I managed to receive 8 grade 9s during my GCSEs and 1 grade 8, as well as 3 As in my A levels (Maths, Physics and Graphic Communications). In the future I'm hoping to work in robotics/prosthetics, and I have such a genuine interest in both maths and physics (especially space and quantum!). I also love cooking and playing basketball.

Teaching Experience:
On top of my tutoring experience, I've just returned from my second year working at a youth summer camp in Canada. Here I was required to teach the kids wilderness survival skills, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, arts and crafts, and plenty more! We were also required to teach them leadership qualities and responsibilities, as well as fun camp songs and dances, with everything being very interactive.
