I am a qualified teacher with over 22 years teaching experience. Initially this was KS2 focused teaching the full curriculum on an employed basis in school. In the last 12 years I have concentrated on tutoring Maths and English KS2, and KS3 - KS5 Maths including Entry Level 3 Maths, Functional Skills Level 1 and 2 Maths and GCSE Foundation Level Maths up to and including Grade 5.

Tutoring pupils after school in their own home in Maths and English (KS2), Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning in preparation for the 11+ exam and GCSE Foundation Level Maths.

Tutoring in School
After leaving full time teaching, I have worked in quite a number of different Primary Schools tutoring pupils who have fallen behind with their Maths or English studies. This has been both on a 121 basis as well as tutoring small groups of pupils.
A recent block of work in school involved working four days per week at a local Primary School in Crawley from January to the end of May. Not only did I work with pupils on a 121 basis but also in a small group setting assisting them with Maths and English, I also took a large group of pupils from Year 6 every morning to help prepare them for their SATS papers. During this time, I worked with pupils from each of the eight classes within the KS2 section of the school preparing all of my own lessons based on the work each teacher asked me to focus on with the pupils.

Since March 2026 I have worked in a local secondary school in Horsham tutoring Year 11 pupils on the spectrum for autism for Entry Level 3 Maths, Functional Skills Level 1 and 2 Maths and GCSE Foundation Maths up to and including Grade 5. All of this work has been in preparation towards their exams.
Due to the work completed in the school since March, I have been asked to continue tutoring Maths in the school in September with both year 10 and Year 11 pupils tutoring six sessions per week on a 1:1 basis.

Working with pupils who are not in school
During the last 12 years I have also worked with pupils who for a variety of reasons, are not in full time education. This has been anything from two to three hours per day varying between one day per week to four days per week. Although the age of the pupils has been between 7 to 16 years, they have all been within the KS2 bracket of learning for Maths and English. This work has normally taken place at the pupils care home, in their foster parents home or occasionally, in their own home.

Present Private Tutoring Work
I have just finished working with a Year 4 pupil tutoring him 1 hour per week for Maths and I am presently tutoring a Year 6 pupil in Maths for two hours per week. The family have asked me to continue tutoring in September when their son goes into secondary in school in order to enable him to gain a good grade in GCSE Maths. I am also tutoring a year 10/11 student for GCSE Foundation Maths one hour per week.

Teaching Experience:
Over 15 years private tutoring experience tutoring pupils of a wide range of ability in their own homes after school. This has included assisting children both with their Maths and English KS2.
I also tutor Maths GCSE Foundation Level for Years 7 - 11.

Tutoring Approach:
My tutoring style is to concentrate on building pupils confidence through use of encouragement and praise. I am a very enthusiastic and well experienced tutor of French and Spanish, and English. I also teach GCSE Biology. My tutees tell me that I am fun and friendly and have a unique approach to teaching. I have two children and teach in a local private school so I am up to date with current practice and understand the needs of young learners. I studied BA French at the University of Southampton, and I spent 9 months living in France as part of my degree. After university I worked at a translation company as a project manager, where I was able to study towards my Postgraduate Diploma in Translation in my spare time, studying via distance learning with the University of Bristol. I have since moved into higher education, working across different roles within the space.

In my free time I enjoy baking, travelling and anything active - I'm always off running, hiking or cycling!

Teaching Experience:
I've been offering private French tuition for over 10 years at various different levels, ranging from primary school age to GCSE/A-Level preparation and adult-learning. I also taught English to primary school children whilst living in France. Tutoring Approach:
Lessons are individually planned rather than based on a fixed course. The starting point is always the student's current level, their goals and the areas that are limiting their progress.

For GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level and IB students, this normally means combining exam technique with targeted work on grammar, vocabulary, accuracy and communication. For example, a student preparing for an A-Level speaking examination may need speaking practice, but also more accurate grammar, stronger vocabulary and a wider range of structures.

Adult lessons are adapted in the same way. Some students want a clearer understanding of grammar, while others are more interested in conversation, travel or using Spanish professionally.

All students have access to an individual shared online document containing lesson notes, vocabulary, grammar explanations, exercises, corrections, homework and additional resources. This provides a clear record of progress and makes revision easier between lessons.

Cancellation Policy

As tutoring is my full-time profession and lesson times are reserved specifically for each student, I operate a 48-hour cancellation policy. I am a Modern Foreign Languages teacher and am incredibly diligent, organised and devoted to promoting a love of language learning as well as a desire to ensure GCSE students achieve their very best in exams.
As a teacher and AQA examiner, I have access to past papers as well as having built up a wide range of teaching resources with which to teach. I am associated with a school wherein Edexcel and AQA are the examining body for Modern Foreign Languages although this does not hinder me as a prospective tutor for those studying under WJEC or alternative examining bodies.
