Personal Description:
I am an experienced science tutor with over 20 years experience of tutoring GCSE science, A level biology and degree level medical sciences. I spent 25 years as a career scientist working in research in the field of Child Health at the University of Manchester. My first degree was in Physiology and Zoology and my doctorate is in molecular biology and membrane transport.

Teaching Experience:
I have delivered personal science tuition to students from14-54 years of age over a period of 20 years. I have extensive experience of teaching both small groups and 1:1, including ESL students. Throughout my university career I taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level and had pastoral responsibility for students in the department. Since having my own children I have actively engaged in outreach activities to both junior and secondary schools. Prior to becoming a personal tutor I spent time working with KS2, KS3 and GCSE students.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that in order for my students to achieve their best my role as a tutor is to build confidence, stimulate interest and consolidate knowledge. I recognize the difference in learning styles between individuals and employ a range of teaching approaches to address these, always tailored to the individual student.

I am a philosophy student at Roehampton University. I am from the South Downs in Hampshire, where I lived until I was 18. I have been studying here in London since September 2017. Back home I am the oldest of four, and this had enabled me to be able to understand how to make learning fun for a wide range of ages, as our ages vary from 8 to 20 years. My hobbies include playing football, listening to music, and reading. I was previously employed as an after school nanny so have a DBS check that is valid.

Teaching assistant every Wednesday for an academic year at the infant school in my home town.
Shadowed History department at my secondary school the year after I left.
Working as a nanny I had to help the boys I looked after with their homework. They were 6 and 8 so was helping them learn very basic skills.

I have always been naturally able to write especially well, and am enthusiastic about the subjects I study. I have found it easy to pass on this enthusiasm for learning to younger people, and I especially am able to connect with younger kids on tasks they would usually struggle to find fun. I am a Maths and Physics teacher and have been for nearly 40 years in both secondary and further education. I am very enthusiastic about the subjects I teach and enjoy helping my tutees to understand and progress. Both Maths and Physics are difficult for most people and it is a privilege to be able to explain ideas in these subjects in such a way that students can understand at whatever level they are working at.

I have been a keen amateur astronomer for all of my life and I am still in awe at the mysteries of the universe when I am looking through a telescope.

One of the worst fears amongst students especially in Maths is falling behind the rest of their peer group and not understanding the work as well as everyone else. When I am satisfied that my tutee is able to cope with their current work, I will revise topics to prepare them for tests and exams.

Both Maths and Physics require development of skills that constantly need practice. When it is close to tests or exams I will focus on exam questions so that tutees are aware of the standard required for the grade they are aiming to achieve.

Hi I'm an 18 year old political science student at a belgian university and I'm in Cambridge with my mother for the holidays. I'm a sweet and enthousiastic person with a real passion for the french language! I used to regularly help my little cousins with their french and math lessons but I was not paid for it, so this would actually be my first time giving paid lessons. I will adapt my tutoring approach to the needs of the student, but I suggest participatory lessons. I will explain the lesson of the day during the first half hour and make sure the student has understood it by giving them a fun oral or written exercise to do during the last 20min.
