Tahmeena - Norwich tutor

Information About Tahmeena:

Personal Description:

I am a PhD student in Physical Oceanography with a background in Seismology. Both require a lot of mathematical knowledge, but in a more applied sense. I think this helps to show students that maths can open up a wide range of subjects, careers and opportunities. I love teaching and will be starting a PGCE in September to become a physics teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored multiple students in GCSE Mathematics (2 As, 2 A*s) and I have also taught numerical skills at University as a postgraduate demonstrator.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that getting to know the student and understanding why they are not getting the most out of their education at school is key. Often, confidence is an issue, and that can be helped through a sympathetic approach. I don't expect them to know everything! It may also be that they simply have a poor relationship with their teacher which can be repaired with some hard work outside of class. I like things to be informal, I don't want to scare them or talk down to them. I want them to see that mathematics is a beautiful language which simply has to be read in the right way.
