Personal Description:

I am a mature highly educated individual. I have worked in computer related industries for most of my life. I've taught, mentored and tutored formally and informally in mathematics and IT.
I believe that people learn and excel when they like a subject. Hence I work hard to make maths a lively, useful and interesting subject: to the younger ones, I point to various everyday things that uses maths; to the older student, I point to the sciences and applications that rely on maths.
I also believe that people learn better when relaxed - No judging, No sarcasm, No testing, but a genuine desire to improve and enjoy maths together.

Teaching Experience:

I have privately tutored maths over twenty years.
I have also taught for several years as a visiting, part-time lecturer at the Middlesex Polytechnic (now University) in Mathematics and IT.
I have also (with my wife) brought up two successful children!

Tutoring Approach:

I vary my tutoring style to suit the student's ability, level and aspirations.
In the first session, I agree with the tutee a plan of what will be covered in the following few lessons.
Normally, I start by going over 'urgent' topics that may be bothering the student.
We later go over the most recent material they've been doing, thus keeping on top of the school stuff.
Then, gradually, I go back to revise older material as contained in his/her exercise note-books.
I usually rely on the text books adopted by the tutees' schools.

• BSc (Control Engineering - Sussex University)
• PhD (Systems Science - The City University)
• Member British Computer Society
