Matteo - Islington tutor
Information About Matteo:
Personal Description:
My name is Matteo, I'm 27 and Italian. I moved to London two years ago to study Sound Engineering,
after completing a Bachelor and then a Master of Science in IT back home.
I specialized in Computer Security and my thesis, which focused on a mathematical model for a network of underwater sensors, has brought me to write an article for a scientific magazine.
At the moment I'm applying my scientific interests to the technical side of audio and sound (i just got a Diploma in Sound Engineering at SAE London), being music something I've always felt related to.
Teaching Experience:
During the last three years of my university career (2006-2008) I've been teaching math and physics to high school and university (bachelor level) students.
While attending my Diploma course at SAE London (2008-2009), I've been tutoring two of my colleagues who had difficulties with the mathematical and physical aspects of Sound (sound wave theory, logarithms etc...) .
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching experience has taught me that students often present a mental block towards the idea of being able to deal with scientific subjects (especially math). Therefore, I've always found useful to begin a tutoring relationship by motivating the student, helping him to understand that there's no built-in obscurity in the world of numbers and physical laws and establishing a mutual trust which eventually brings the lesson in a more relaxed and familiar environment.
As for the teaching method, I usually approach the lecture by briefly explaining the theoretical aspects of the subject in order to make sure that there the student has fully understood what we are talking about and the reason why we are going to spend time on calculations later on: a good understanding of the theory is the only way to stimulate the interest and mental involvement which is at the basis od the scientific process.
Later on, I present exercises in an increasing order of complexity to guide the student through a gradual and efficient path leading to a complete comprehension.
It is my habit to leave some homework for the next lesson in order for me to double-check that the student has absorbed what we've done and that we can begin with something new.
