Teaching Experience:

Very experienced tutor; over 140 hours of tutoring experience from 11+ to university interview preparation. I am a top tier tutor at other agencies.

My last four tutees have attained the highest academic achievements:
One gained a place reading Land Economy at Cambridge University,
ALL three of my 13+ candidates received places at EVERY one of the schools they applied for. Two of these three even achieved academic scholarships.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe there are a number of key principles to tutoring.
1) RAPPORT - each tutee is different and it is important not to have a set formula when working with each student, or even for each class. In my opinion, there should be an emphasis on identifying the needs of the student and working towards these goals.
2) TARGETS - what are we working towards, how we can get there and isolating areas for improvement.
3) PRACTICE - regular testing, from past papers to 4) GENERAL EXAM TECHNIQUE.

Employing these four principles as a foundation, tutoring can be productive and enjoyable and I have a number of testimonies to illustrate this point. For instance, last summer, I worked with an A-Level Geography candidate who was able to get their grade from an E at AS Level to an overall high B grade for their entire A Level.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and approachable tutor with a huge amount of enthusiasm in the subjects I teach. I was awarded a Scholarship to a competitive independent before working towards a Masters in Biochemistry at Oxford University.

I have since worked as a Pharmaceuticals Business Analyst, as a High Yield Chemicals Industry Analyst in Investment Banking and as an Air Traffic Controller. In each case the knowledge and skills from my education have been critical. I would now like to gain the satisfaction of helping others do well in these subjects and attain their potential.

Teaching Experience:

In my industries it is critical to continue learning and passing exams, and in every role, I have always had to pass on my knowledge and understanding to others, which has been incredibly gratifying. More recently, I have enjoyed tutoring maths and other subjects to pupils locally, often to help them gain entrance to competitive schools. I also enjoy spending time teaching my son and my nieces.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should always be interesting to the pupil - inspirational even - and that the onus is on the teacher to make this the case. Learning is about being curious and asking questions; in fact I believe pupils should not be scared to ask any question, which means that learning should feel relaxed rather than formal.

Subjects should not be seen as complex but rather layers of straight forward principals that build on what the pupil already knows in an intuitive fashion. In this way, a good teacher allows understanding to grow naturally and not feel like a challenge.

SAXOPHONE-I am an experienced saxophonist. Currently I play both alto and baritone saxophone. SAXOPHONE- I have taught young pupils at my old school before for free to gain some experience in teaching. I also play at a high level in the Hillingdon Music Service concert band and Sax Group, as well as in multiple Jazz and Big Bands.I have been on tour to France with the Music Service as well and have played for weddings too. I now have a good level of experience in both playing and teaching.

MATHS- I have been teaching GCSE and lower level maths for a few years now. I was part of a team who a few years ago went to the UK maths challenge representing my region of London. I enjoy teaching maths and in my experience those who i have taught have found me very useful.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that bringing out the passion in the student is what counts, so for music the genre they enjoy most and helping them fall in love with music that way. With maths i believe having a strategic plan of getting a topic or part of maths that the student is struggling with and keeping at it and doing questions and going through the solutions with them until they understand. I understand that many people struggle with maths or may not like it but i find that someone younger (such as myself) teaching them makes it a lot easier on them. Another good way i find with maths is going through questions and helping them understand how to get to the answer rather than just giving the answer and moving on with a simple tick or cross.

I am a patient and caring teacher and before I start with the lessons I discuss with the parent and the pupil their subject weaknesses. I also discuss what they are learning in school not only to give me the ability to help them understand the subject, but also to enable me to know what they want to achieve through my teaching. I give homework and then discuss with the pupil the different ways that they can make improvements so that they gain confidence with their studies. In certain cases I do not give homework as the schoolwork might be heavy.

After each lesson I always make time to talk to the parent to discuss what I have taught their child and tell them what homework has been set. This way the parent, pupil and myself can give immediate feedback.

I have excellent people skills and try to build a good relationship with my students so that they enjoy their lessons.

I was Team Captain and Treasurer in my Riding Club at University as well as a member of my University's Sub Aqua Club, both of which involved me leading and teaching groups in their respective area of learning, as well as training further in each subject at the same time.

Personal Description:
I am an 21 year old third year medical student at Peninsula medical school.

Obviously, my main interest lies with medical science, but I am hugely passionate about biology and chemistry - chemistry in particular - and enjoy sharing this with others through teaching.

Outside of academia, I enjoy dinghy sailing, surfing, fencing, and play the bass guitar.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to instil a passion - or at the very least an interest - in the subject, by teaching both within and outside the syllabus to pass on the (sometimes) more interesting but ignored areas. Aside from this, I have a relaxed manner so that it doesn't feel too much like school to the tutee. If there is an area they wish to know about that I am unsure on, I will endeavour to learn about if before the next session so that they have a certain degree of input on what they learn whilst still covering the syllabus. I will ask the tutee lots of questions, as I have found this method very useful with it requiring you to think on your feet and explain answers coherently.
