Personal Description:
my name is Giulia, I am 28 years old and I come from Italy, where I gained a BA (Hons), with the equivalent of a First, and a MA (again, with the equivalent of a Distinction) in Classics (universita' di Udine). I am currently studying for a PhD in Classics at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Teaching Experience:

During my undegraduate program I have tutored four students from secondary schools in the form of private lessons, mainly in Latin and Greek, but also in English, Italian, history and philosophy. I can also help pupils and students develop a good method of studying in other art-based subjects like English or history.
I have taught at Royal Holloway within my department: I have run Greek literature seminars with first year Classics students in Octo/Nov 2010, and in 2011 and 2012 I taught Beginners and Intermediate Latin.
I have also been employed as an Italian tutor within the continuing education program at Strode's college, Egham.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is easygoing but also rigorous. I have a solid knowledge of Latin, Greek, Italian and English based on a 10 years school and university experience.
I am a very patient person who likes to prompt the students to reach indipendent thought and critical reasoning. For this reason, my method of teaching/tutoring is often based on discussion and confrontation, more than just lecturing. As far as primary school level is concerned, I do not have previous experience but I am keen to work with pupils as well: classical civilisations still have a great appeal also to the young ones and this aspect makes them very enjoyable at every level. I can also help students of every age develop an efficient method of learning and studying using the skills they already have.
Being still a student is a bonus, as I am well aware of what students' fears, needs and expectations are.

MATHS- I have been teaching GCSE and lower level maths for a few years now. I was part of a team who a few years ago went to the UK maths challenge representing my region of London. I enjoy teaching maths and in my experience those who i have taught have found me very useful.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that bringing out the passion in the student is what counts, so for music the genre they enjoy most and helping them fall in love with music that way. With maths i believe having a strategic plan of getting a topic or part of maths that the student is struggling with and keeping at it and doing questions and going through the solutions with them until they understand. I understand that many people struggle with maths or may not like it but i find that someone younger (such as myself) teaching them makes it a lot easier on them. Another good way i find with maths is going through questions and helping them understand how to get to the answer rather than just giving the answer and moving on with a simple tick or cross.

I believe that learning should always be interesting to the pupil - inspirational even - and that the onus is on the teacher to make this the case. I am a 24 year old Primary PGCE student, with a range of experience working with children and young people. In particular, I have worked with children who experience barriers to learning and I enjoy aiding them to experience success in education. Teaching Experience:

Before embarking on my current course, I worked as a teaching assistant in both primary and post-primary settings. I provided support to children with English as an additional language and with special educational needs in both settings. I was responsible for planning, setting targets and assessment of the children I worked with. I also supervised a Homework Club, providing assistance to post-primary children in various subjects including children with special education needs and those who are gifted and talented.
