Personal Description:
My name is Shannon, but you can call me Shan! I am 17 years old and currently taking a gap 5 months from A-levels before going to boarding school in September to restart year 12 in the UK. I have a younger sister whom I have spent many many hours with, helping with 'last-minute' homework and projects.
I live with my Mum, and she works full time so I mainly have a house all to myself, so lots of time to study! Currently, I spend my time doing lots of charity work which I have a passion for.

I have a bubbly and friendly nature, and understand how difficult some subjects can be! Trust me, I have been that one in the class who has no idea if the teacher is even speaking the same language as me!! The good news is, I adapted study skills and learnt amazing ways to revise and ta-da... I did really well in my exams!

Teaching Experience:

I taught English in Cambodia during February of 2015.

Tutoring Approach:

Friendly chat to start with, to see what are the key areas of difficulty are.
Work at students own pace until each topic is grasped!

*homework will be given once a week!

Personal Description:
I am a retired Maths Teacher who has recently moved into the Neston area.
I have a Certificate in Education (Advanced Maths) and a First Class Honours Degree from The Open University.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Secondary Maths for the past 30 years in the Southport and Liverpool areas.
My last post was teaching years 7-13 at a Comprehensive in Liverpool. I taught all abilities in years 7-9 then Foundation/Higher GCSE and A Level Maths.
I have been a private tutor for 6 years.
I am also a Senior Examiner for Maths GCSE.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe children when they say they do not understand (the majority want to learn, certainly on a one to one basis) and I will therefore try different approaches until we reach the understanding of the topic not just rote learning.
I have access to numerous exam papers from different boards and being an Examiner know what is being looked for and the different ways to gain marks.

Personal Description:
I have many thousands of hours tutoring experience following a career in the telecommunications industry. I am also a qualified Flying Instructor, and have been trained to effectively deliver one-to-one tuition.

I have always enjoyed helping people to achieve their goals and will go the extra mile to ensure the success of my students.

I am passionate about the choice of physics and engineering as a career. Without physics there would be no iPhones, games consoles, or the internet!

Teaching Experience:

Besides being an experienced tutor of at up to A-level standar I have been a visiting lecturer to both Aston and Coventry Universities.

I am a qualified flying instructor so I am very experienced in providing one-to-one tuition to students with a range of abilities and I have been trained to teach in a difficult environment (an aircraft).

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient and understanding teacher with experience of teaching a wide cross-section of pupils and am familiar with many of the common stumbling blocks pupils encounter when studying physics in particular.

Wherever possible I try to use the experiences that I have gained during my career to provide real life examples and case studies and to demonstrate that physics is fun!

Personal Description:
I am a 1st Class Honours graduate from UCLAN, Preston, having studied Dance Performance and Teaching. The course combined dance technique, physical training and a strong focus on facilitating and tutoring.
I gained a highly acclaimed PGCE Secondary teacher training qualificaton specialising in Performing Arts (dance and drama) at Liverpool Hope University and professionally lectured HND Dance at Mid Cheshire college.
I enjoy academic work and feel confident in my own abilities regarding writing skills, basic computer skills and organisational skills. I personally have worked on these attributes through all my A Level studies and during University (both under-graduate and post-graduate) to reach a stage where I am competent and comfortable enough to pass what I have learnt onto others. My A Level subjects included English Language, Psychology and Performing Arts.
I now teach Dance, Drama, Music and English at a London secondary school and am the whole school Literacy Lead as well as Head of Performing Arts (Music, Dance and Drama).
I am an approachable, empathetic and dedicated tutor that has knowledge of the current education system and styles first hand.

Teaching Experience:

To date, my experience varies from both formal educational settings to those in the community. I have experience with all ages and all abilities; including disadvantaged groups and disabled students.
Dance is my specialism so I often teach in Physical Education settings, combining techniques from both typical classroom management and also general facilitation.
I am continually working in the community to broaden my experience base and as a result have worked with all types of learners therefore building up a good amount of tools and skills that I apply to individual cases.
I assisted in the running and facilitating of Preston Youth Dance Company and, until moving to London, ran my own community classes as well as teach professionally at further and higher education levels.
In my professional environment I am subject to regular observations and monitoring to maintain my high practice.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is often a more physical 'learn by doing' approach. Visualising and trying each avenue out is what I find works best in order to understand what does and does not work. I take care in addressing the type of learner I deal with and prefer not to force or expect knowledge but encourage and develop it.
I believe that it is important to firstly understand each other as tutor and tutee and then agree on preferred structure and goals, both short and long term. I also firmly believe in praise where due and do not hesitate to create the correct relationship boundaries.

Personal Description:
I'm an experienced professional maths tutor with a Cambridge maths degree, an abiding love for maths and a passion to help students discover and master maths for themselves!

I teach secondary school students at A-level (including IB and Cambridge Pre-U), GCSE (including IGCSE), Common Entrance and KS3. I also teach mature students, and university students requiring maths to support other degree subjects. I have prepared students for exams from all the major exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA, OCR and OCR-MEI. I also prepare students for STEP and for numeracy or numerical reasoning tests, including the numeracy skills test for prospective teachers.

Two of my three children have been through school and university and one is still at secondary school, so I have been engaged closely with the education system at all levels and understand what both students and parents are looking for to achieve academic success.

My family and I have lived in Cranleigh for over 20 years and I have connections with a number of local schools.

Teaching Experience:

I have thousands of hours of experience of providing 1-1 maths tuition. At peak times in the year I have more than 40 active students on my books, spread across all secondary school levels up to A-level Further Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

More than almost any other subject, maths needs confidence to be built, and a patient, individually tailored approach. Able students may need practice to strengthen problem-solving and eliminate errors, a more joined-up view of maths to deepen their understanding, and challenge to stretch their capabilities. Others struggle to understand at a more basic level, and an imaginative and pictorial approach with plenty of real world examples is needed to achieve that "penny drops" moment!

Depending on the student, tuition may include any or all of: coaching to consolidate (or anticipate) teaching at school; revision for examinations; working through past examination papers; teaching and testing of specific sections of the curriculum; or more free-wheeling exploration of mathematical topics. By agreement with students and parents, homework may be set and marked.

I'm available to teach at any time in the week, either on weekdays (daytime or evenings) or at weekends. I'm happy to teach in my own home, or in students' homes in Cranleigh or up to 10 miles away in the surrounding area in Surrey and West Sussex, including Guildford, Horsham and Godalming. If teaching in students' homes I may agree an additional charge for travel if this exceeds 10 minutes each way.

I offer engaging and effective mathematics tuition at all secondary levels including A-level and GCSE. If you want to succeed in your exams and also to deepen your appreciation of mathematics and have fun, then get in touch!

Personal Description:
I'm a native Polish speaker, Southampton graduate and a student of the University of Amsterdam. I'm talkative and approachable, passionate about languages and society.

Teaching Experience:

Over 3 years of steady tutoring experience. I've conducted both long term language courses as well as short ones for weddings and holidays. I've taught adults, university students and GCSE-level pupils. My main focus is on individual tutoring but I also have classroom experience and I'm happy to engage with groups.

Methods I've used span from conventional book-style approach, flexible course formed in co-operation with a student (choice of topics, methods, material, focus) to theme-specific conversation.

Tutoring Approach:

My priority is to make personalised lessons, focus them around interests, preferences and needs of each student. I use variety of materials (books, newspapers, songs, films, photographs, games, additional grammatical and vocabulary exercises). I adjust pace and method of introducing new information and skills to fit individual needs.

Language is a practical skill and I aim to give you the ability to communicate with your Polish friends, partners and co-workers. I also see language as a gateway to culture and I'm happy to complement lessons with insight to interesting and unique parts of Polish life.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, I respond quickly :)

Reference:

'Ewa has taught me Polish for over a year now. She's made a lot of effort to ensure that the lessons are well-tailored to my needs. She's very conscientious and always well-organised, but also flexible and has a good balance between being professional and teaching in a relaxed manner. I feel like I've made a lot of progress under her tutelage and always enjoy my lessons, so would happily recommend her to others.' Sam, 29

Personal Description:
Ben is a technically and artistically accomplished in portraiture photography and been quoted by professors at a university as a master in the studio. He love's to make the photos encapsulate you and who you want to be. Ben strives to capture the details and emotions that would go together to make your time with me an enjoyable experience.
Ben is a social person and loves to get to know the people he works for, so he can really reflect their character and what they want, so to produce the highest quality work for and give them exactly what they are after. Ben aims to spend time chatting with you in advance so that your time with me is so much more productive.
Ben grew up in West Africa where his parents worked amongst the poor coordinating small-scale development projects. This had a massive impact on his life and photographic practice affecting how he relates to the world around him. In his photographic work, he has taken a special interest in reflecting stories and voices through his images. For example, he travelled in Uganda and Thailand and used photography to be the 'voice' of the people he photographed.
Although Ben's formative years were spent in Africa he was educated in Guildford, Surrey at George Abbot School that specialised in the expressive arts. During these years, his creative flare became more apparent when he took A-levels in Fine Art, Sculpture, and Photography. He progressed onto doing a Foundation Degree in Action Photography at Truro College where he specialised in Sport, the Natural world and Social Documentary and began to prepare for a more commercial direction. Ben still maintained his roots in expressive art during the foundation degree but also developed his technical skills thoroughly. Ben had the opportunity to be the photographer for 24/7 magazines in July 2008 at the Newquay Ripcurl Surfing Festival.
In 2009, he progressed on to Plymouth University to study for his BA Hons in Photography where he achieved a 2.1 studying under Stephen Vaughan and Dr. Simon Standing. During this course, he spent time looking intricately into the how we view our bodies and others around us. He concluded the year specializing in fine art nudes and portraiture, with a project called 'The Paradox of Perfect Beauty'. This study challenges the ideologies of beauty in history, sculpture, and figurative representation and critically analyzes the standardized figures and body shape used in art as well as in modern day commercial advertising, fashion and other types of portraiture. In the final exhibition, Ben aimed to present a personal discovery of body image and consequent self-affirmation. Ben was fortunate to be able to exhibit some of his work at the D & A D-New Blood Exhibition in London in June 2010.
Many photographers say they are good but even the perfect image that ben has he can still see my own flaws in you get the highest quality with me and won't be disappointed. In this digital age, many people can snap you but ben can give you an artistic flair, which is also of superior quality. He is sure that you will want to share the photographs he produces. Don't hesitate to contact me to discover more.

I also work in a apple shop in Guildford so can teach about apple products and how to use them both in conjunction with software like photoshop or one there own.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring photography from many years to all different ages and abilities from young kid's to University and Mature Learners, I started my teaching with teaching english in Thailand and working as a assistant youth worker and having to teach different subject and activities. I have furthered my experience with children running children Holiday camps over the school Holidays.

Tutoring Approach:

i have a relaxed approach to teaching trying to have an objective view to someone work but giving prods and direction where needed i lile for my students to discover the answer themselves and the satisfaction you see from them when this happens is the best part of the job every achievement is given praise and every downfall is looked at as not a failure but a part of the learning curve.

Personal Description:
I am an Oxford graduate (Worcester College), with a degree in Literae Humaniores (Latin and Greek language and literature, as well as ancient and modern philosophy).

I am also a highly experienced classical musician (a singer), having gained experience in a number of world-class choral institutions in Oxford and beyond. I am trained as a choral singer and as a soloist.

I am able to tutor the following subjects:

Latin (beginner/Primary/KS3/GCSE/A-Level or equivalent/casual or Adult Learner)
Greek (beginner/KS3/GCSE/A-Level or equivalent/casual or Adult Learner)
Classics (beginner/Primary/KS3/GCSE/A-Level or equivalent/casual or Adult Learner)
Philosophy (beginner/KS3/GCSE/A-Level or equivalent/casual)
Religious Studies (KS3/GCSE)

Singing (beginner to advanced - up to Grade 8 and for Adult/Casual Learners)
Music Theory (beginner to intermediate - up to Grade 5/GCSE)

I am willing and able to teach pupils one-on-one or in groups.

My academic interests include:
Renaissance Humanism and Renaissance European Scholarship
Tudor England
The Tudor Reformation
Classical Reception Studies, particularly the manipulation of the Classics in 17th Century Musical Drama.

My musical interests include:
Vocal anatomy
Pharmacokinetics of the voice
The neurophysiology of singing
17th Century Opera
Renaissance Lute Songs
Sacred music of Europe in the Renaissance.

Teaching Experience:

My main experience of teaching one-on-one is in the form of vocal tuition.

I also have experience of teaching in the classroom, where I have worked with children aged 8-11 teaching a variety of subjects (including English Booster Classes, English Literature, Reading, Egyptology and Drama).

I have a lot of experience of working with young people, with extensive experience gained from working with the Admissions department of Worcester College (at the University of Oxford) as well as working as a Choral Scholar at the College (where I had to provide an example to the young choristers of one of the choirs).

In addition to this I was a Junior Foster Carer for 11 years (from ages 7-18), where I worked alongside various members of Social Services in order to provide a stable home for children in care.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is a traditional one, particularly when it comes to the teaching of Latin and Greek, which is taught by composition into the language from English and through the reading of original texts.

I ask for a tutee to try their hardest - as long as they do, they will be met with a tutor who will give their all in order to help them achieve their goal, a tutor dedicated to his teaching and his pupil.

I also incorporate modern methods into my teaching, including the use of ICT and the latest examples of Digital Humanities e.g. The Perseus Project.

I am confident at creating a structured approach that works with a pupil's own strengths and needs to provide a tailor-made package for learning.

Ideally I meet with each student to discuss their learning needs, current level and expected outcomes.

Although it is important to push the boundaries of learning, it should always be a workload that is both manageable and individually tailored.

People learn best when they are enjoying themselves, so I try my best to make learning fun and interactive.

Personal Description:
Hi I'm Diogo and I'm very passionate about teaching. I'm currently studying for a PhD in nano materials, and I believe I can not only help you through your exams but also to find chemistry more appealing. I'm available to tutor from my home at Preston or to travel to close locations if travel expenses paid.

Teaching Experience:

During this past year I've assisted several students on their research projects, which required not only my practical lab skills but also my theoretical chemistry knowledge. I'm also currently teaching (demonstrating) on two chemistry modules at UCLan (1st and 2nd years).

Tutoring Approach:

My motto is: if you can't explain it simply enough then you don't understand it well enough, thus I try to develop an interactive and practical-thinking teaching.

I strongly believe that a tutor's duty is to try different approaches to those used in school, and without disregarding the syllabus, how the modules can be looked at from different angles.

My ultimate goal is to show to the tutees how chemistry can be an enjoyable subject.

Subjects

  • GCSE or Standards (18 p.h.)
  • A-Level or Highers (25 p.h.)

2 years of private 1 on 1 teaching from home.

I have always been a hard worker with strong ambitions, so this is the approach that I tend to integrate in my teaching style. Personal Description:
I have over six years of teaching experience across a broad range of subjects in literature, film and media studies, art and history. I am friendly, professional and passionate about my subjects and I believe in encouraging my students to access their enthusiasm about these subjects in order to unlock their potential. I have experience writing and coordinating my own courses in the areas of film studies and art history. I also have a record of academic excellence: I have a first class BA honours in English literature, an MA in literature and philosophy (Distinction) and a PhD in literature and history. I have published my own research into literature and film. I am a practicing artist.

Teaching Experience:

I have over six years experience teaching at university across a wide range of subjects in English literature, critical theory/philosophy and film and media studies. I have written and taught an Art History course on the relationship between Art and Revolution at the Cornerhouse (Home). I also have substantial experience tutoring at GCSE and A level. I have experience helping students with their reading practices, assignment preparation and preparing for exams. I have substantial experience offering proof-reading and assignment and dissertation support to undergraduate and postgraduate degree students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in an active and student-centred approach to learning whereby I provide the support and expertise that enables my students to play a central role in their own learning and development. My approach is to draw out my students' interest in their subject in order to develop their confidence and ability to engage academically in the most effective way.

It is important when teaching to develop this enthusiasm within the structure of the particular syllabus or course outline - I encourage my students to understand and respond to what is being asked of them, whether it be for an assignment, presentation or exam. I also aim to develop my students' ability to respond to and structure ideas and arguments in a logical and clear way. I endeavour to make my teaching engaging and interactive, incorporating diverse and innovative approaches to ensure active and enthusiastic student participation.
