I began my combat training at thirteen at a local boxing club in Llanelli, learning the vital skills and discipline that have kept me working in the fitness and self-defence field for over ten years.

At the age of fifteen I joined the Cobra-Kai Freestyle Kickboxing Federation, and trained religiously under the regime of instructor Lee Martin (4th degree black belt). In 1997 I went on to win the European martial arts title (WUMA Federation), held at Cheltenham. On my return, and after numerous local newspaper photos and write-ups, I received the greatest honour any keen young martial artist dreams of: becoming a fully-fledged black belt.

At the young age of 18, I opened my very own kickboxing club at Llanelli Leisure Centre, for all levels and ages. After showcasing my skills, not only as a martial artist but also a teacher, I received my 2nd degree black belt. Starting with just one weekly ninety-minute class, I now run four classes per week. At university, I was the Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious Oxford University Undergraduate Law Journal. I've also been a tutor from 2009 -- 2018, both privately and working for Tutoring Australasia. During this period I taught, philosophy, english, maths and psychology.

Tutoring Approach:
I specialise in teaching students to do just that little bit better in exams and in fundamental skills that will be useful to them throughout their education, such as writing clearly and engagingly.

Learning should also be fun and tailored to the student; ideas don't really come alive unless they feel relevant. So even my university teaching uses sources that are accessible and interesting to the student, like podcasts and youtube videos.

I have a young family just starting their educational journey, whilst I support the oldest ones edging towards the end of theirs!

Teaching Experience:
I am a highly successful GCSE and A Level teacher of over 10 years. As well as QTS status, I am a T&L specialist with additional qualifications of Cteach and Advanced Teacher Status, as well as qualified and highly successful SENDCo. I am a fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching. I lead in inclusion and diversity - supporting schools to break the barriers of inequality. Previously I have been Head of Departments for History and Social Sciences before moving further in my career. I have a passion for engaging and challenging T&L, and focus on nurturing skills as well as context and narrative. I can adapt my teaching to suit any age range or ability and have great success in top grade outcomes (A Level A/A*, and GCSE 7+) as well as supporting children achieve their aspirations.
