I'm a 38-year old graduate from the University of Sussex with a First Class Honours degree in French and Russian. I lived for four years in Paris where I mastered the language and the accent!

As well as language studies, my course encompassed literature from the 16th to the 20th centuries and history, society and politics since the French Revolution - subjects I am therefore qualified to talk about with some authority.

I like to stay abreast of French culture and society and am catching up with some novels I didn't get to read at university (currently I have my nose in Nathalie Sarraute's "Portrait d'un Inconnu")

I'm also registered with personal-tutors.co.uk who demand references and conduct a CRB check before registering their tutors.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught English to French students but have, more recently, been tutoring English students at various levels - GCSE KS3 and KS4, AS and A2-level and have also been helping a student prepare her DELF.

Tutoring Approach:
It is important to tailor lessons specifically to a student's needs but my general philosophy is to engage him or her at a level just above their "comfort zone". Learning is about challenging yourself to do better and it is crucial for a tutor to be supportive and encouraging but also to keep the bar high.

Lessons can be conducted entirely in French, or in a mixture of English and French. I can work alongside a student's existing course (that is, from a textbook the student is already following), or we can use course books that I recommend.

Where the level allows, I like to draw upon material from contemporary sources such as French news magazines.

For "conversation classes", I find it is useful to base the discussion on an article or a book to help build vocabulary, and also think that incorporating grammar instruction (where appropriate) can be a good idea.

Note that hourly rates are flexible dependent on whether the student needs home tutoring or can travel, and the degree of preparation required for each lesson.

I was born and living all my life in Saint Petersburg.
Graduated in 1998 from Russian State Pedagogic University named after A.I. Hertzen, Saint Petersburg.
In 2007 I got married with English man from Leeds. So I decided to change my life dramatically moving to completely new world for me.
I have the great experience of choirs. At the age of 11 (1986) I travelled all over the world with concert trips as a soloist singer of choir. After "Perestroyka" we were one of the first Russian collectives who opened the door to Europe. We performed 19 century Russian Orthodox, Russian Soviet and foreign music from Palestrina to Fore in front of huge audiences in all kind of churches, cathedrals and concert stages.
Whilst I have being a University student I was invited as a soloist to the choir of "State TV and Radio Channel-5", Saint Petersburg, where I was working for 2 years till the reorganisation of this channel (1996-1998). During this time I also attended lots of countries with magnificent program having experience of singing with Rostropovich, Gergiev, Temirkanov, and other great musicians.

I have series experience in typing music on PC with "Finale" for piano and orchestras including complicated contemporary music sheets.

During my life I have made 5 CD recordings with different choirs.

Another passion of mine is a piano. I have quite high level of performing skills from Bach till possibly Scriabin. My desire is creativity so all my life I was fond of writing my own piano and choir compositions.

Teaching Experience:
After getting my diploma I was offered to run a choir in the church as a second director (regent) where I was working ( 1998-2006) with adult mixed choir rising quality of singing and restoring very old library. In the same time I was giving private piano, singing, and theory lessons for different age groups of pupils and students. I was also able to find time to sing an orthodox and folk music in different groups continuing trips abroad, mainly to Germany. I was also invited to my own music school as a choir teacher, but I could not let myself accept the offer because of incredibly low salaries at that time.

Tutoring Approach:
My aim is to teach on demand - it can be general musical education, every day routine practice, preparation for exams or auditions, singing, solutions for problems in reading music etc.

Teaching Experience:
While at LSE, I tutored another fellow student from Japan who had only a limited grasp of the English Language. I took this extremely seriously and he managed to pass the MSc from being in a position in which his professors were certain he would fail. Outside of academics I have spent a number of years teaching tennis to children and adults of varying skills and abilities.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is based on two fundamental premises. The first is that it is absolutely essential to find satisfaction in the learning process. This may not come through the actual material that needs to be learnt and it is up to the tutor to inspire in the student the confidence to succeed. As your tutor, I will lay down the learning structure that will cement this through detailed lesson plans.

The second premise is that supervised practise testing is imperative. About Ismail:
I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at King's College, London (third year); and may possibly undertake a PGCE afterwards with a view to teaching mathematics.

I have held an interest in teaching for some time, with tutoring on a 1:1 basis being particularly appealing. The satisfaction of conveying understanding to a student is one that is hard to come by in other areas of work - and one that is particularly appealing.

Teaching Experience:
I have previously taught as part of a government-funded scheme as a supplement to the childrens' formal schooling. This involved taking a group of students and ensuring that each had a task/s in which to spend the time - requiring the ability to command a group at the same time as assigning individual tasks when necessary.

Aside from this, I have generally been of some help to the younger members of my familiy as regards their curricular activites!

Tutoring Approach:
I see tutoring as a profession offering a great deal of satisfaction that one may not even derive from teaching a group of students, let alone other professions.

The nature of tutoring allows for knowledge to be imparted based on the level of the student alone - without having to accomodate for a group of differing abilities; a challenge that interests me. This also, as far as I am concerned, contributes to a better working atmosphere where the attention of the tutor is focused on one student and the area of study that they require.

I taught in a secondary school for over six years until 2006 and since this time have been tutoring. I have experience across the 10-16 age range and ability range. I am also experienced in working with lower ability children, including those who have a Statement for Educational Needs. I teach both History and English up to GCSE and am experienced and skilled in exam preparation.

Tutoring Approach:
I am a patient and caring teacher and before I start with the lessons I discuss with the parent and the pupil their subject weaknesses. I also discuss what they are learning in school not only to give me the ability to help them understand the subject, but also to enable me to know what they want to achieve through my teaching. I give homework and then discuss with the pupil the different ways that they can make improvements so that they gain confidence with their studies.

I have excellent people skills and try to build a good relationship with my students so that they enjoy their lessons.
