| About bob: I'm currently studying for a PhD in the London Centre for Nanotechnology, based at University College London in the field of frustrated magnetism. I am therefore knowledgeable in all areas of physics including thermal, nuclear, statistical and quantum physics as well as electronics and optics as well as my own field. I have marked final year undergraduate problem sheets and thus have a good understanding what examiners expect from students. NOTE: IF YOU REJECTED MY TUTORING OFFER IN ERROR I CAN NO LONGER CONTACT YOU. PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER OFFER OR I CAN'T GET BACK TO YOU. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught as a laboratory demonstrator to first and second year undergraduates. I have also taught first year undergraduates, aiding them to solve problems for themselves by encouraging a broad understanding of underlying physical principles in classes at UCL. In addition to this I have demonstrated to undergraduate students in mathematics classes, helping them to understand the basic art of problem solving in mathematics by reducing questions into well known forms before solution. NOTE: IF YOU REJECTED MY TUTORING OFFER IN ERROR I CAN NO LONGER CONTACT YOU. PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER OFFER OR I CAN'T GET BACK TO YOU. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that encouraging a student to understand the basic laws of physics and mathematics is crucial in allowing them to become confident in problem solving. It is essential that a student be able to think clearly and without inhibition if they are to develop a versatile problem-solving technique. NOTE: IF YOU REJECTED MY TUTORING OFFER IN ERROR I CAN NO LONGER CONTACT YOU. PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER OFFER OR I CAN'T GET BACK TO YOU. |

| About Chau: I'm Vietnamese but i can speak English fluently. I have done my A levels in the UK and got 4A in Maths, Further Maths , Physics and Economics. For Maths and Further Maths, I both got over 95%. I'm currently studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering at UCL. I enjoy helping people and have good communication skills. |
Teaching Experience: I haven't got any experience in tutoring, however I have been helping my classmates with maths and physics problems during my school times. |
Tutoring Approach: In my opinion, a good tutor should be able to identify the problems quickly and then be able to explain to student in the most simple way. I also think the tutor should be able to make the student feel comfortable, not put so much pressure on the student so that the student can work more efficiently. A good tutor also need to be patient and a good listener. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Shirley: I am a friendly and outgoing person who loves to smile. I am patient and understanding and currently an undergraduate taking a joint honours in chinese and english. |
Teaching Experience: I was a trained peer supporter in secondary school where I aided younger students with their class/homework. There I also worked with teachers in finding and trying out fun ways to encourage students to learn and take part in community/social events. A key aspect of the job was to provide support for any students with any social issues. For the past year I worked with tutoring my younger cousin in her keystage 3 mathematics. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that everyone learns best with different methods be it taking notes or practically taking part, therefore I like to adapt my teaching methods to best suit each learner. However I have a few basic rules and guidelines, to ensure the tutee understand how things work. To understand the method and approach to reach the answer which is more significant than the actual answer itself at times. Often I like to revisit and go back to basics. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Kathleen: I am a Canadian graduate student at the Sotheby's Institute of Art. I am currently working towards my MA in Art Business. My BA (Honours) is in Art History and Criticism, and I took many courses in media studies and comparative literature as well. I have always enjoyed taking English and literature courses and I am a tough, but fair editor of papers. I have also built up a lot of study skills and strategies that can be really helpful, especially for art students who have slide based exams. Having gone through one degree already, I am happy to help in general undergraduate university prep and study skill development as well. |
Teaching Experience: Throughout my undergraduate career I was a mentor for incoming university freshmen and I held tutoring and exam preparation sessions for comparative literature. I have also led student-run study groups for art history courses. Most of my teaching experience and skills comes from recently having finished a degree and having the whole experience and my study skills fresh in my mind! |
Tutoring Approach: When I am taking on a student, I really like to identify specific issues. I like to start by talking with the tutee to identify what they think are their issues and then I will read a sample of their work to understand their style and approach. the techniques that I use vary with the topic. For example, to prepare for an art history exam, I will work with the student on memorization techniques for slides. For English issues, I like to use visual diagrams to connect ideas, and for papers, I like to do a full reading of the paper and then sit down to identify re-occurring grammatical issues. I am a fun tutor and I really like to work with students who are passionate about art or English- even if they are having difficulties. I am really patient and happy to work through issues at the student's own pace. I am a very good editor (for both content and spelling & grammar) and can edit high school essays/uni papers/ and graduate work. |

| About Ken: Male 60 years of age. Positive outlook. Pro photographer and partner in a studio for 30 years. Patient and adaptable. Travelled extensively. An avid learner. I find the more I teach, the more I learn. |
Teaching Experience: PHOTOGRAPHY: Taught photography in my studio and on location. Darkroom work to portraits, weddings and exam requirements for still life and studio portraiture. ENGLISH: Taught English as a Foreign Language to people in China and England. Mostly to people over 20 years of age. |
Tutoring Approach: Holistic approach to learning as many factors come into play. Not just the willingness to learn a subject. People have pressures from various areas that have to be taken in to account. I find that some times the student assimilates much more during one lesson, than maybe the previous. I try to tailor the lessons to the student with an emphasis on creating a sense of acheivement. Humour and flexibility are important also. |

| About Alastair: I have always enjoyed the study of languages and have a degree in Classical languages from University College London. |
Teaching Experience: I have tutored students from primary school to university level in Maths, Latin and Greek. This includes preparing students for exams and tests. |
Tutoring Approach: I try to structure my sessions between the core skills of language learning: in classics this is crucially reading and writing. My other goal is to develop vocabulary and grammar in an accessible format. In mathematics my approach is to illustrate how to break a problem down into its simplest form and proceed from there. |

| About Kirsten: I am a recent graduate from Southampton University, graduating in Mathematics with Economics with First Class Honors. |
Teaching Experience: I did a placement in a secondary school in Southampton, organized via the university. I received very high grades based on projects I set up in the school and on the review given by the mathematics staff at the school. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and the pupils reacted very well to my teaching methods. |
Tutoring Approach: Having just been a student myself, I can relate easily to the experiences of my pupils and am able to utilise the most effective teaching methods depending on the student and the subject material. I am friendly and un-intimidating, and I encourage pupils to ask as many questions as they feel necessary to make them comfortable with the material. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Anna: I am a 25 year old Australian, living in Glasgow for the rest of the year and really enjoying it so far! I have traveled a lot, spent a year in Berlin at university and have a mostly artistic range of interests including linear drawing, eating yummy food and reading. I'm easy to approach and look forward to working with you! |
Teaching Experience: I have always been an excellent student, finding that whatever I was learning always made a lot of sense to me. From primary and secondary school to university--including Humboldt Universitt in Berlin--I have always achieved top results. But more than that, I have always been able to see quickly where the confusion of my classmates lies and how best to explain the subject clearly to them. In this way I have helped classmates throughout my entire school career, one-to-one and in study groups. |
Tutoring Approach: I don't approach tutoring with any specific plan, as I think the most important thing is what inspires the individual to extend their interest and motivation to a certain subject. The first thing i do, to this end, is to speak to the individual and I'm guided by what I hear in developing a study plan and certain goals. Though this method may appear quite fluid, I do stand for certain results and can be relied on not to let you let yourself down. |

| About Katie: I am an Aussie born high school teacher with a passion for life and learning. I'm an avid reader, eager traveller and mad-keen Latin dancer! When I am not moulding the minds of the future, I write childrens' books, practise yoga, study psychology and dream of world domination! I look forward to meeting you. |

My specialist subject areas are English and Drama but I also have experience teaching Religious Studies, History and Philosophy for students from year 1 to A-Level. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe school should be interesting, stimulating and relevant. I expect my students to see tutoring sessions as part of an overall study plan. I will help directly with classwork, homework or assignments during sessions, but will also encourage students to plan their own revision and will help them to create a plan and stick to it. | About Thomas: Hi, my name is Tom, and I'm an easygoing student in Bristol. I have a MSci in Physics and am currently completing a PhD in Maths. I have experience teaching Physics and Maths, something which I enjoy a lot. I am very good at simplifying and explaining concepts and am familiar with problems students of maths frequently have. If you are looking for more Physics or Maths tutoring at any level, please contact me. |
Teaching Experience: I am currently teaching in the University of Bristol (I teach first year Physicists and Mathematicians). This level tends to be from A level standard up to fairly advanced mathematics. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel strongly that tutoring should provide a huge benefit over classroom lessons. One to one lessons allow specific problems to be found and explained clearly, and an informal atmosphere, encourages questions. I consider it the responsibility of the teacher to provide an interesting insight into their subject, and to make it more accessible to students. |

| About James: I'm a finalist (4th year) at Royal Holloway University of London studying French and German. I have just spent the past year in Dijon and Heidelberg, so I am in touch with the respective societies and cultures. |
Teaching Experience: I have not taught yet, as I am still an undergraduate, but I have helped students previously while studying at a grammar school. My past year studying in France and Germany has seen me in contact with students and lecturers from all over Europe, so I feel I am understanding the importance of education. |
Tutoring Approach: I am happy to approach the teaching, as the tutee wishes. The atmosphere will be relaxed and there is no pressure to overload the tutee, but rather to find the right balance between understanding the languages and building a sound knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. I'm happy to address any specific issues, or start from scratch or I can suggest topics myself, which I consider beneficial. |

Teaching Experience: I have been teaching students with varying educational needs for the last ten years. My teaching experience has involved both adults and younger children who have difficulty with the basics of English and Maths. Prior to this I have taught within two colleges and a community group offering additional educational support to students who had dropped out of mainstream education. |
Tutoring Approach: During the last 5 years I have taught Children and adults that have required additional help in Maths and English up to Level 2 - National Test. I find this particularly rewarding as it has reaped many successes. | About Aaron: I am primarily a music tutor offering help and support in all areas including instrument tuition for guitar, piano and drum-kit as well as classical and jazz theory. I am also qualified in a number of other subjects, the competitive rates of which are on my profile. I am a freindly, patient teacher and being 22 I have only recently left full-time education and so can empathise fully with students in all levels of education. |
Teaching Experience: I began teaching instrumental lessons at the age of 17 and have been widening the styles and ability levels that I am able to teach in the last 5 years. In the last year I have also begaun running workshops in schools in the subjects of media studies, music, drama and film studies. I have a BA Music and have also received traing in the Yamaha Method. |
Tutoring Approach: I beleive that teaching the syllabus is incredibly important for subjects which require exams and coursework, particualrly academic subjects. When I teach music I encourage the student to consider his/her strengths and weaknesses and tailor a method of teaching designed to work alongside the student which may or may not be similar to conventional classical approaches, depending on the needs of the student. Although my approachs to teaching different subjects vary, the objective is to help the student acheive their goal in a freindly, supportive and encouraging environment. This may be acheiving an A in GCSE maths, attainign grade 5 piano or simply to further the students own understanding of the subject. If the student has a clear idea of what it is they want to acheive, I will help them realise that. |
