| About Carol: I have two children, one who is eleven and one who is sixteen. When I have free time, I like to go to the cinema and play badminton. I also like travelling and discovering different parts of the world. |
Teaching Experience: I have ten years experience of teaching which spans nursery, foundation, primary and 11-16. I am presently a science teacher at a secondary school. I have been in this post for three years and I teach chemistry, biology and physics across KS3 and KS4. I am presently taking a Chemistry postgraduate course. This will improve my subject knowledge to be able to teach chemistry to 'A' level. |
Tutoring Approach: Before I begin to tutor, I will assess what level you are currently working at. I will also speak to you in depth about what do and do not understand about a topic. I will then take you through the topic at a pace that you feel comfortable at. You will be set homework to test your understanding. In preparation for exams, you will be given ideas for revision that will help your style in learning and pass papers to prepare for exam format. Your contribution to what you need is important and you are invited to express what help and topics you feel you need to cover. As a tutor I am here to help you succeed. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Michael: I was born in 1951 and have worked in the creative industry for over 30 years. I have extensive knowledge of art photography supply, digital fine art printing and publishing and have worked in most photographic fields including architecture, interiors, travel, fashion, portraiture and still life. |
Teaching Experience: I run regular photographic workshops in the UK, mainland Europe and the United States but have no formal teaching qualifications other than an Dip ad from a three year photography course as a student in the early 1970's. |
Tutoring Approach: There is a good deal of confusion in the relatively recent transition from film to digital photography. For those who seek not to just take a snapshot on auto but wish to understand what constitutes a good photograph, a certain amount of technical information has to be imparted. The camera however is only the tool to capture the image. Seeing clearly, and understanding how to look, observing natural lighting, composition and exposure are the most important elements of any good picture. Thereafter, downloading, editing and simple manipulation are necessary in order to review and enjoy your work. All of this is taught in an engaging and informal manner with the emphasis on immersing oneself in the activity and not just attending a course. The workshops are open to all and professional 35mm SLR digital equipment and laptops are provided. Workshops are run in London, Wiltshire and Majorca. A minimum of three people are required for any of my workshops although one to one is possible, subject to price. |

| About James: I have a postgraduate degree in theatre studies and am currently pursuing a career as a theatre director. I've moved into tutoring as an exciting and challenging second career; so far all my GCSE students have scored A* in their exams and this is something from which i draw a great deal of satisfaction. |
Teaching Experience: Since graduating with an M.A. i have tutored numerous students in the three subjects that i offer and at all levels; so far all my GCSE students have scored A* in their exams and this is something from which i draw a great deal of satisfaction. |
Tutoring Approach: What draws me to tutoring is a great enthusiasm for my subjects and a deep desire to share their skills and stories. I try hard to make my enthusiasm infectious and to present these fabulous and fun subjects so that they become life-long passions. I try to encourage my students to accomplish goals rather than push or nag them, but i won't provide their answers for them. |

In Madrid, I have been teaching French to two little girls. We were singing French song, playing games. It was easier for them to learn French with fun. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Camilla: I am a 26 year old graduate of Bristol University where I obtained a BA (Hons) degree in French (2:1). I am looking to tutor on a part-time basis a couple of evenings per week (6 p.m. onwards) and Saturday day times. I am very friendly, patient and good with children. |
Teaching Experience: I spent a year living in Paris teaching English to French engineering students at a local college. I also completed a TEFL course while at university and have experiencing of coaching junior staff members through my main employment. I am able to tutor French to GCSE standard thanks to my degree in the subject. I am also able to tutor English (including reading and writing skills) and Maths to Year 9 level. My academic history in these subjects is as follows: French: 2:1 degree from Bristol University, B grade at A level and A* at GCSE Maths: B grade at A level and A* at GCSE English Literature: A grade at A level and A* at GCSE English Language: A* grade at GCSE I have extensive experience of exams and am continually studying towards professional qualifications as part of my main employment. I am therefore able to help students structure their learning by helping them to create revision timetables and breaking subjects down into smaller, more manageable chunks. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that the best way for people to learn is to relate the subject to something that they are interested in. It is therefore important for me to understand children's hobbies and interests so that these can be used to help build their enthusiasm. I also believe that confidence is one of the greatest barriers to learning and so helping children to develop this is a key part of my approach. |

Each session contains 10 classes, which you can decided how long to accomplish, and each class has different theme. I teach new vocabulary and conversation under different themes so students can learn the culture while they improve their language skills. |

| About Violetta: I am a native Russian speaker and a qualified linguist, currently working as a freelance translator and interpreter. I love translating but I enjoy teaching even more - it's so rewarding to see your pupil acquire a new skill and discover a new culture. I have recently moved to Somerset from Scotland, where I lived and gave private lessons since 2004. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught Russian to public school pupils, home-schooled children, university students and adults. I am familiar with GCSE Russian requirements and Ab Initio Russian exams at Cambridge University. My experience includes teaching groups in a school environment but, although group lessons have their benefits, I believe that private tuition gives the best results and is more time- and cost-effective. I enjoy teaching students of all levels - from complete beginners to advanced. |
Tutoring Approach: I encourage maximum interaction between a tutor and a student, and after a brief assessment of your current level, we will work together to develop the best plan to improve your comprehension and communication skills. To make lessons more fun, I use a wide range of resources including video clips from Russian films. I also carefully choose and adapt texts from Russian media to make them relevant to your interests. |

Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Antonia: I am a 25 year old female English Language and Linguistics graduate (BA Hons, University of Sheffield.) I live in the Hunters Bar area of Sheffield and currently do a mixture of freelance and agency tutoring work. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience tutoring one-to one at GCSE and Alevel level (English) and also experience in teaching English as a foreign language to International students. I have also taught reading and writing skills at primary level. |
Tutoring Approach: The most rewarding aspect of tutoring for me is adapting my approach in a way that meets the demands of each student. This means that I tailor my approach finely, to the particular individual. The first session involves an assessment of the student's learning style, so I can find out what best motivates them. For example, if they they are motivated by a target-driven approach, then we write down a list of achievable goals, and then periodically do a review to see if these goals have been achieved. I find this approach advantageous for monitoring progress closely. However, I also favour a less military approach in the case of students who do not work efficiently under pressure (me included!) I find this especially useful if students are experiencing extreme difficulties and need support rather than constant targets. I aim to encourage and motivate students in a way that enables them to reach their full potential, and also emphasise the importance of questioning and discussion in my lessons particularly in the case of Alevel subjects. I love rising to the challenge of improving a student's ability and assisting their success in the given subject. I think my style of tutoring reflects this. |

| About Joanne: My name is Joanne I am a qualified actor and performer with a wide range of knowledge in the theatre arts, including teaching, media, recording, writing and producing in all performance fields. I am painter, with a great interest in acrylic abstract artwork. |
Teaching Experience: After completing my degree in Performance and Media art I worked for over a year as a SEN Teaching Assistant, assisting children aged 11-16 years on a one to one basis and in the classroom. The aim was to ensure all children of all capabilities had a good understanding and development of ICT, Literacy and Numeracy. I then spent some time working for an international pre-school company teaching parent and child activity classes for children aged 0-6 years of age. This involved writing lesson plans from designed programs and delivering them as 1 hour classes. I am now a Drama Supply teacher working in the South Yorkshire area on long term cover in secondary schools teaching children aged 11-16 years (key stages 3 and 4). This involves teaching drama classes with around 25 students in. To complete this to the best of my ability I write and research my own lesson plans to ensure that all children are getting as much as they can from there drama classes. I am also a Supply Drama Instructor for a Nation Wide Stage School teaching children aged 4-16 years, drama and performance classes. I have also taught in several Summer Schools both by local authorities and private companies. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe that drama is a excellent tool to encourage children to be confident and outgoing and is a learning way through to adulthood. I always encourage children to express themselves through the media of performance as it is a controlled environment. I am firm but fair tutor, but my main focus is always on the student and what they need and wish to accomplish through their tutoring sessions. I set acheivable goals for students based on their individual talents and limitations. |

| About Lisa: I am a friendly, bubbly and responsible individual, with excellent communication skills, and a genuine love of teaching. I am hard-working, conscientious and highly enthusiastic when it comes to teaching, and thoroughly enjoy seeing the rising achievement on my pupils. |
Teaching Experience: I am a fully qualified History teacher, with experience in English and English-as-an-Additional-Language tuition. I have been teaching in comprehensive schools for the last two years, and have also been tutoring for several Oxford-based tutorial colleges. As a result, I have taught at many different levels, and have experience of most examination boards. I also teach Learning 2 Learn, which allows pupils to gain a greater understanding of multi-sensory and metacogantive learning, which has allowed me to adopt several different teaching and learning styles, benefitting my teaching and tutoring. |
Tutoring Approach: Firstly, I would assess the knowledge and understanding of the pupil, thus ensuring that I can meet their needs and increase their attainment. Then, tutorials would take a very examination-driven approach, using board specifications, mark schemes and model answers, which would allow the pupil to understand exactly what is required of them during the examination. I would also be willing to assist with any coursework, and encourage extra reading, and give them as many resources as possible. I feel it is also important to allow pupils to read around their subject, as it often gives them greater confidence and extra understanding of the topics being studied. As an Oxford graduate, I can also tutor for Oxbridge examination and interview preparation. Ultimately, I favour a rather personalised approach, and would create a tailor-made unit of study in order to ensure success. |

| About Hayley: I am a trained teacher, with a degree (2:1) in Psychology, from the University of Reading, and a PGCE in Advanced Early Years. I have classroom experience, specifically in Early Years and Key Stage One. I am currently working as a Children's Pastor and so have regular contact with children of primary school age. I have been working with children since I was 16, babysitting, tutoring, running and leading activity groups and teaching. My job currently doesn't give me time to teach full time, so I am tutoring to keep myself in the education loop. I have a CRB Enhanced Disclosure Certificate. |
Teaching Experience: I have always had an interest in teaching and have experience dating back to my own school days where I would choose to work in schools during work experience, or volunteer to help whenever I could. I based my psychology dissertation around language development in children and spent time working in schools. On an official basis I am a trained teacher with some classroom experience. During my training I had placements in Foundation Stage and Key Stage One settings. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is to base it around the needs of the individual needs of the client. My aims are to build students confidence in their abilities and to raise their expectations with challenging, pupil centered and rewarding lessons, producing great results. I am interested in helping all primary aged children, from children who may struggle in specific areas, those who need help with homework, or those who need to be pushed forward in their abilities. I am very patient and enjoy helping others to learn. I can provide extra tuition to keep children focused during holidays. |

My speciality interests are the English legal system, criminal behaviour and psychology, ancient/classical history, second world war history and Hitler's Third Reich, Shakespeare, Tennyson and religious studies. |

| About Rachel: I have just finished school and I am currently on a gap year before starting university in 2009. I am a keen scientist and hope tutoring will be an opportunity to help other students to develop an interest in maths and science as well as helping them to improve their understanding and broaden their knowledge. |
Teaching Experience: As a sixth former I tutored two year 9 students in preparation for their maths' SATS. This involved meeting up with them once a week to go through their homework and find any areas of difficulty. I frequently babysit for children ranging in age from 2 years to 12 years so have experience of gaining respect from this age group. |
Tutoring Approach: I pride myself in my ability to listen and communicate well. I'm a patient person and willing to go back to basics in order to help the student grasp underlying concepts. I also believe in the importance of asking questions to ensure the student has understood. With such a rigorous curriculum taught at school, I hope to provide tutoring sessions that are informal enough for the pupil to ask questions that they may not have the opportunity to in the classroom. |
