Information About Emma:

Personal Description:

I am a PDGE graduate in Primary Education from Strathclyde University and previously graduated with a BA(Hons) in Performance from The University of the West of Scotland. I am available to tutor primary aged children on a variety on areas across the curriculum, as well as tutoring drama to children, young adults and adults. I promote positive relationships with students and believe active learning can have a huge impact on our learners. As a recent graduate of Primary Education, I understand how precious learning time is for learners and would love to provide any support where I can.
Before undertaking a career change into Primary Education, I worked as a Company Manager for a Scottish theatre company, working throughout primary schools across the UK and care homes throughout Scotland. I have performed and directed in theatre productions in Leipzig, Germany.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked with Early years, lower, middle and upper primary school children for many years and I believe it is the most fulfilling work I have done to date. I have worked as part of the Scotland Reads Programme with young adults within my local community and lead them to become more confident readers. During this time I taught pupils beginners sign language to encourage their learning and build confidence.
I have lead many workshops using drama skills, with such groups as; trainee teachers at The University of the West of Scotland, a student LGBT group, and gave one-to-one tutorials on confidence building for a trainee doctor, about to sit their final GP exam.
Having created, written, directed, produced, and performed in a variety of shows, I know how to develop and encourage my cast to accomplish the best outcome.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe people learn better when they're in a supported, creative and safe environment. Different techniques work for different people, it's about getting to know your learners to provide the best possible outcomes for them.
