As someone who has recently experienced what it is like doing the new style of GCSE`s and A-Levels, I understand and recognise what works best in order for students to excel beyond what they think might be their limits. I currently teach all lessons in person or online on Zoom or Skype. Online tutoring is very effective, as students can choose the best tutor regardless of where they live and save on travelling time. As with in person lessons, I prepare lesson plans and materials and send them to the student before the lesson. I also set homework assignments, mark the work and give constructive feedback.

Language tuition has been my passion for a long time and allows me to be supportive and creative, motivating pupils and believing in their abilities. In the case of coursework for GCSE or 'A' level I am happy to have students email their work for me to check over and then have a lesson in person or on-line. With regard to working towards examinations, I prefer to use the question papers as the basis for learning as generally each exam board has a preference for the way in which questions are answered especially in the subjects I teach. English and History especially are open to interpretation. I believe the need to read around the subject and offer a wider knowledge than is generally taught at schools or colleges is vital. Regular tuition is therefore preferable, so that all problems can be addressed over a period of time but I am flexible as to how many lessons are needed.I am also happy to teach on-line using Teams or Google Meet, as I was doing this over Covid and thereafter.

I am John, an English graduate who has several years experience in one-to-one and small group tuition. I enable my students to make the connections they need to find in order to achieve successful exam results. Many of my students have achieved results that they required in order to secure places at university or attain successful grades both at GCSE and A/L standard. Other students have achieved the results they needed for making successful job applications and professional placements.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching and tutoring since the mid 2000s. I enjoy working with students to enable them to achieve the grades they require, both for exam results and for securing the careers they have set their sights on. I have worked both one-to-one as well as with small groups, including those for whom English is not their first language.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is that of an enabler. I believe that every student has it in them to unlock the results they are aiming for, however unconfident they may feel about a particular subject or aspect of it. By working closely with examples from previous exam papers, I am able to show pupils how to take control and gain ownership of English texts and language. Pupils find out how to unlock their own innate abilities to analyse and comprehend the way language and literature works. Armed with these approaches my students gain mastery over their subject matter and gear their knowledge towards the exam targets they wish to achieve.

I started teaching in Birmingham as a French Assistant in 1990 and completed my PGCE in 1995.
I have taught in 4 different schools and was Head of a Modern Languages Department for 7 years.
As a teacher in mainstream schools, I have come across a very wide range of abilities, and have always adapted to the needs of my classes. I know what is required at GCSE and the progression needed from KS3 to KS4.
TUTORING ADULTS
Tutoring is something I greatly enjoy.
I had given private lessons to adults in the past and also to secondary school students, but in January 2019 I decided to create my own tutoring business.
In this last year, I have had the joy of seeing adults with very little knowledge of French blossom into confident learners.

Tutoring Approach:
For me, learning grammar and especially tenses is crucial if you want to become successful language learners.
I also have my own method for teaching pronunciation and this produces great improvements.

I am a highly experienced, qualified Maths teacher with a track record of good results. I have a First Class Honors BSc in Mathematics from Durham University and a PGCE from Kings College London. I am a well-rounded, high-achieving and compassionate person. I achieved 5 As at A level and have a diploma in piano performance.

Teaching Experience:
I have been a qualified classroom teacher for 8 years and, in addition, have tutored students ranging from age 7 up to adult. I have taught at a Grammar School in the UK as well as private schools in Malaysia and the UK. My classroom teaching has been for students aged between 11 and 18 and includes GCSE, IGCSE, IB and A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. My students have always achieved well due to the fact that I inspire them to enjoy the subject and know how best to prepare them for their exams. This is because I have an in-depth knowledge of the curriculum as well as the common misconceptions students have for each topic.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that every student is capable of succeeding in Maths as long as they are taught in a way suited to them. I also believe that it is important in Maths to truly understand the content and how it all fits together. Making links between topics is vital as there is then less to remember and it becomes much easier to recall information in future. Maths is a subject which requires a lot of resilience and many students suffer from Maths anxiety because of the fear of getting it wrong. In the classroom, students can often struggle if they are not receiving the individual support they need and, as a tutor, I have a unique opportunity to give this.

As a tutor, my first task is to ensure that each student believes they can succeed. I pride myself on my ability to connect with my students, work out what they need in order to understand the content and create a safe environment where they are not afraid to make mistakes. I show them that mistakes are learning points in Maths and the path to success is to persevere through these and adapt your knowledge as you progress through each topic. As a teacher and a tutor, I am able to guide students through this process.

I am a Senior Psychology Lecturer at a distance-learning university, specialising in neuroscience and cyberpsychology, and eating disorders. I am passionate about supporting students to pursue psychology.

Teaching Experience:
My background includes a BSc in Psychology (first class with honours), and MSc in Health Psychology (with Distinction). Prior to my role as a Lecturer, I worked as a private tutor for three years for A-level students and undergraduates. As a Senior Lecturer I teach on both MSc and BSc Psychology programmes and supervise a variety of dissertation projects that are both qualitative and quantitative in nature. I have over 9 years teaching experience.
