I privilege the communicative approach as after all languages are made to communicate! HI! I'm Ollie, a 2nd year undergraduate at Oxford University (Christ Church college) studying Philosophy and French.

I come from a native French background (with a French mother). Therefore, I have been lucky to spend my summer holidays at my grandparent's house in France granting me full conversational fluency.

The subsequent academic study of French has allowed me to gain that rigorous understanding of the French language - and, in the last few years, a fair amount of literature - which gives me the requisite knowledge to help children reach their potential in this subject.

In my secondary school from the ages of 15 to 18 I acted as a student mentor, a role which has both pastoral and academic capacities. In the academic part of my role, I helped other pupils with French from the ages of 11 to 16 who had been selected as they were struggling in their classes. As such, I feel that I am able to help children at any level of ability not solely restricted to the higher level.

Outside the school environment, since the age of 16, I have tutored other children in my local area, especially when leading up to exam seasons. Managing both the anxieties and responsibilites of these periods with students taught me a lot about effecitve communication styles and empathy.

The primary element in my approach to tutoring is involving the student in active learning. In line with this principle, I get students to engage in interactive exercises and spoken work as a primary focus. I am a soon to graduate S6 (Y13) student who will to study physics at university. From my own experiences, a subject is more enjoyable and easier if you know where the theory comes from. Many of my yearmates have expressed frustration over the course material bring too vague, and found that questions became much easier when we connected the dots between different equations.

Life has much to offer, so before going off to uni I have decided to take a gap year and use this time to explore my interests, future career paths, and expand my experiences. Teaching is on my checklist. I'd gladly spread my enthusiasm to others.

I have been a classroom assistant for Higher mathematics, where I mainly helped solve challenging problems and guided students. Pupils often engage more when they find a topic entertaining or interesting, keeping a constant flow of conversation and discussion can help retain knowledge whilst being active.

The first class can be a free trial where we get to know each other and determine if you would like to start regular classes. I will assign optional homework with questions from online sources to help with consolidation if the pupil had not already done practice questions, otherwise the homework can be viewed as recommendations.
