Personal Description:
Masters and PGCE graduate from University of Cambridge. Passionate, experienced, and friendly tutor.
Hi there! My name is Jagon, and I am a passionate and experienced tutor of science at GCSE and Biology A level. I completed both my Masters and my teaching training at the University of Cambridge, which informs my practice with the most current research-based teaching strategies which leads to academic success. What makes me stand out from other tutors is that I have a talent for chunking and clarifying complex concepts into manageable pieces, making it easier for my students to understand and retain what they've learned. Whether you're struggling with a specific topic or need help with an entire subject, I'm here to help you succeed.
Teaching Experience:
Currently, I have been giving online tutoring for 5 years and am currently teaching in real-life classrooms. I am able to cater to different examination boards and learning styles.
"Tutoring with Jagon has been an experience that has aided me so much.
The lessons are always so productive and I learn so much every time. The slides that he creates are so detailed and interactive which really help me develop my understanding on the topic as well as keep me from getting distracted. Finally, he also works on past paper techniques, telling you exactly how to answer a specific question.
Overall, the lessons are great : Jagon is such a cool teacher and never makes me feel self-conscious if I get a question wrong. I love doing my lessons because I have a blast but at the same time get so much work done.
If you're looking for a biology teacher who can teach you as well as be fun, he is the best option!"
- Sophie, Year 11.
"I find the lessons very useful, and they have helped me a lot. I think you teach in a way that makes the information stick in your head. You teach the information to make us understand it but not memorise it so it is easier in exams. I find it very effective and it has helped me."
- Anna, Year 9
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is highly personalised and focused on helping you achieve your desired marks. I believe that everyone has the potential to succeed, and I work closely with my students to identify their unique strengths and weaknesses, so that we can develop a customised learning plan that works for them. I'm patient, understanding, and committed to helping you succeed, adapting to your learning style and background.
My lessons are very much dependent on my initial assessment of the students, but usually involve discussions and activities to identify areas that need developing, explicitly teaching the material that students need help with, checking their understanding, then providing lots of opportunities to practise the content, leading to exam practice by emphasising on examination techniques.
I truly believe that everyone is capable of succeeding in their GCSEs and A level with hard work and the right guidance. I am confident that my experience and genuine passion in science will help my students grow their confidence and achieve great results. Feel free to contact me for more information, testimonials or to schedule a lesson!

Personal Description:
Hi I'm an 18 year old political science student at a belgian university and I'm in Cambridge with my mother for the holidays. I'm a sweet and enthousiastic person with a real passion for the french language! I'd be glad to share some of my favourite french books or movies with you so we can talk about it together during our tea break!
Teaching Experience:
I used to regularly help my little cousins with their french and math lessons but I was not paid for it, so this would actually be my first time giving paid lessons. I'm therefore really looking forward to this first experience and have already prepared my tutoring approach. I hope you'll trust me and enjoy sharing this experience with me!
Tutoring Approach:
I will adapt my tutoring approach to the needs of the student, but I suggest participatory lessons. I will explain the lesson of the day during the first half hour and make sure the student has understood it by giving them a fun oral or written exercise to do during the last 20min. It can be a conversation, a story to write, a sequence from a series to translate etc... it could be anything! Of course, I will make sure to meet the student's needs and will pay attention to their personnality to make them feel as comfortable as I can.

Personal Description:
I like being a teacher and I get true enjoyment from sharing my knowledge and skills with new learners, making them realize how easy learning can be and how much actually they do know already. I like helping young people enjoy learning and making learning easy for them. I am patient and adaptable and easy to talk to. I always discuss the needs of my new pupils very carefully and aim to build their confidence in the subject. As an Examiner with a well-known Board, I am able to help my students to maximise their potential using targeted revision and exam techniques.
Teaching Experience:
I have been a teacher for many years. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I have worked in several schools now, gaining experience from working with a variety of learners of various ages and learning styles. I have worked within the requirements of more than one exam board, therefore I am quite familiar with all exam formats. I have been a tutor also for 10 years with very good results. Students do like me within first session, gaining confidence and self reassurance that they are capable of a lot already. Only some issues need re-addressing, building on their prior knowledge. I work as an Edexcel and SATs expert examiner. I am recommended as a tutor by Emmanuel College and Cardinal Hume School in Gateshead, as both schools know me well. Among other teaching positions I have been a classroom teacher at Lord Lawson School in Birtley and Whitburn School in Sunderland. I have worked as an intervention teacher (one to one teacher) in a few schools already, due to my extensive experience gained along the past years.
Tutoring Approach:
Within the first session, I discover the individual needs of my learners, their strengths and weaknesses. Then I devise a plan to address the whole programme of study within the number of weeks available, so no topic is ignored. I work simultaneously on exam requirements, but also on skill development, skills that the student can benefit from, outside the boundaries of a specific exam format. Students find themselves forgetting the time, often engrossed in their work, mentally challenged and stimulated. I set short homework at times, so that students can practise independently on those skills they develop with me, being reassured that they can transfer those skills further. I do provide learning materials which I do personalize for each student. I am very likable and I do make young learners be at ease within minutes of meeting them.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced and well qualified teacher with an enthusiasm for my subject and a real concern for those who struggle with maths. I have helped many get over their fear of maths as well as helping able students to gain Oxbridge places. I have retired to this area where I enjoy living near the sea, and walking. I volunteer at the Regent Centre, sing with the Grange Choral Society and have three grandchildren, two in London and one in USA and spend what time I can with them, using skype to talk to my family in USA. My husband and I both enjoy gardening.
I teach from Junior School to A level, helping pupils to achieve their full potential.
Teaching Experience:
I am an Oxford graduate with more than 20 years of teaching experience in schools including A level maths and further maths (pure, statistics, and with a particular interest in mechanics). I have also given private tutoring for more than 20 years to a large number of pupils studying from SATs to A levels. Many of those I have taught have returned for help with further exams, or have sent their friends to me, so most of my pupils have come through personal recommendation.
If travelling to my home is difficult I am happy to teach over the internet. I am happy to advise how to work with a screen that both teacher and pupil can write on, so that it can work almost Like being in the same room.
Tutoring Approach:
It gives me great pleasure to help those who struggle with maths to gain confidence and even come to enjoy the subject as well as helping the high fliers get their A grades. I think it important to give students work that is within their capability so the pupil can feel the achievement of getting things right, then we can increase the difficulty while maintaining confidence. My pupils have achieved well in public exams.
One to one teaching enables pupils to work at their own pace, and ask all the questions they do not dare ask in school. I can concentrate on each pupil's individual needs.

Personal Description:
I enjoy maths and helping other people to enjoy it too. I have always kept up my interest in maths by studying with the Open University and I particularly enjoy finding ways to use games and puzzles to create interest and understanding. I worked in business computing and always enjoyed the training side of the job. At the moment I am working as a private tutor, helping my husband to renovate and restore a seventeenth century house and training an unruly young sprollie dog.
Teaching Experience:
I have a PGCE in secondary maths teaching and taught in a secondary school for one year. During my career in IT as an analyst/programmer I trained staff in programming techniques, and also trained users as part of the implementation of the many systems I was involved in. My enjoyment of maths and teaching led me to refresh and extend my skills by studying for a PGCE in post compulsory education. During the course of this I gained experience of whole class teaching, one to one and small group tutoring at GCSE and A-level.
I have now been working as a private tutor with individual pupils for 10 years and am learning all the time! I have experience of students taking GCSE maths for the first time and with those doing resits. I have experience of working with students with dyslexia. I am also an Adult Education Tutor and work with people returning to maths later in life.
Tutoring Approach:
I love helping other people to understand and enjoy maths, and I know that the classroom is not always the best place to do this - many people need the individual attention that one to one or small group tutoring gives in order to bring up their basic skills, learn to build on them and so gain confidence and enjoyment. Maths is too often the subject that people learn to hate and fear - a little one to one help can turn all that around. I aim to give my students a good understanding of the subject rather than learning one-off tricks and rules.
The following is an unsolicited testimonial from one of my tutee's parents:
"Deborah is a very professional tutor and always tries to make our son's weekly maths tutorial as beneficial, creative and enjoyable as possible. She is very dedicated and prepared to listen and help and follows up her tutorials with useful homework for our son to work on during the week. You can see how much personal satisfaction she gets from helping our son, which is great.
I would not hesitate to fully recommend Deborah and her approach to tutoring maths. She clearly cares about her work and helping children to get to grips with maths."

Personal Description:
I am 48 years old and have lived in the Fylde area since 2002. I have two daughters and one son who are my absolute life. In my spare time I spend quality time with them and live life to the full!!
In 2005 I started out as a teaching assistant and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to further my career and become a primary school teacher. I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Primary Education with QTS in July 2011. I achieved a good/outstanding grade on my final block placement.
I have decided to become a home tutor because I am more available in the evenings and it works well around my busy lifestyle. I have had 20 years of experience in education and can offer a high standard of teaching to all pupils, ensuring I meet their educational needs.
If your child would like tuition in preparation for SATs whether they are in Year 2 or Year 6, I will assess them using a SATs paper to identify areas they need to work on and create some lesson plans accordingly.
Teaching Experience:
I have worked in a variety of roles within schools across all key stages. These roles include 1:1 support assistant, reception key worker, teaching assistant, PE Instructor, PPA cover teacher, supply teacher and nursery practitioner.
During these times I have worked with a range of pupils with special educational needs and I am very proud to know that each and every child has progressed and developed through my creativity and strategic approach. I enjoy planning and ensuring lessons and activities are delivered effectively to meet the child's needs.
I have taught groups of children, half classes and whole classes, teaching in all primary subjects and many topics such as World War 2, Castles, Ancient Greece and Titanic.
During my final block placement in a year 5/6 mixed class, I supported children in preparation for SAT's and provided various activities to consolidate their understanding in the chosen subject they wanted support for. I also entered my class into a local poetry competition which over 100 schools entered. There were twelve winners chosen to have their poems published in a regional magazine. Out of the twelve winning poems, eight children from my class were awarded places in the magazine including first and second place. A very proud moment which is just one of my achievements that have made me more passionate about teaching children and ensuring they reach their full potential.
Tutoring Approach:
I have a very calm and creative approach to tutoring and enjoy going that extra mile to ensure education is enjoyable for all children.

Personal Description:
I obtained my degree in physics and doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Nottingham. I then spent ten years working as a physicist in various universities in Italy, New Zealand and the UK. My specialty was low temperature physics. I am fascinated by science and try to pass on my enthusiasm.
In my spare time I enjoy white-water kayaking.
Teaching Experience:
One of my responsibilities as a postdoctoral researcher was to mentor physics students. I am used to explaining difficult concepts and techniques in a clear, simple and concise way. I have been working as a maths and physics tutor since January 2016. I currently teach students from 13 to adult, up to advanced higher.
I also work as an outdoors instructor, teaching climbing, kayaking and biking. Most of my outdoors work is with children, often those who have behavioural problems and are at risk of being excluded from school.
Tutoring Approach:
I encourage the student to think for himself/herself rather than spoon-feeding the material. I ensure that the student understands the fundamental concepts behind each topic, and does not simple regurgitate methods by rote. I aim to instill a fundamental understanding of the subject, but as exams approach I go through past papers and hone exam technique.

Personal Description:
My name is Marcia, and I am a PhD student in biomedical engineering. My project uses mathematical modelling to determine the optimal conditions for in vitro testing of new therapeutic agents. This project combines techniques and principles from mathematics, biology, physics and engineering. I received a studentship from the EPSRC to fund my studies. I am also a graduate with an MEng degree in Biomedical Engineering, awarded with first-class honours, from the University of Glasgow. I have a passion for mathematics and the sciences, and have always excelled in these subjects. My final year project for my MEng degree combined my skills in maths, physics and biology, and was based on the mathematical modelling of antibody drug therapy. I believe especially in encouraging young women and girls to find enjoyment and fulfilment from STEM subjects, although of course, boys are also welcome! I received three different scholarships during my undergraduate degree: the Allan Glen Scholarship, the William Wilson Scott Scholarship, and a scholarship through the Women's Engineering Society.
Teaching Experience:
I have been tutoring for 8 years and have worked with young people ranging from primary school age up to advanced higher pupils. I have also worked as a tutor in an Engineering Mathematics tutorial for first-year engineering students at the University of Glasgow. Finally, I participated in and received accreditation for my involvement in a university-run initiative, where I visited a local secondary school to assist students preparing for their Advanced Higher Physics coursework and examinations.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that the key to learning mathematics and the sciences is in a relaxed and enjoyable approach. I am very patient and quick to find the best approach for each individual learner. I believe that no two individuals learn in the same way; therefore, it is of great importance to be flexible in my approach. It is my belief that mathematics and the sciences are best learned through the practice of problems. Still, I feel that it is crucial to first work through, with the student, how I personally would approach solving a particular class of problem to provide the student with a model by which to base their understanding. I am able to provide exam-style questions as well as handwritten notes. I believe it is essential to ensure that the tutee knows that they can ask any question without judgment. There are no "silly questions" - only things the student does not yet know or understand.

Teaching Experience:
10 years teaching experience in private tutoring. During that time I have had student progress from just starting to Grade 8 in 2 years.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher with a strong interest in all things scientific.
I am recently retired from full-time teaching and live in the Durham area with my family including two teenage daughters along with our faithful dog, Charlie.
My specialism is Physics. After many years teaching I think I understand why some students find it so tough and I always try to use real life examples and analogies to help students with their learning and understanding.
Teaching Experience:
I taught for most of my career, more than 30 years in a large comprehensive school in Newcastle.
I have held a number of posts including an extended period as Head of Physics.
Specifications and schemes of work change far more than they used to but the fundamentals of Physics remain the same and a good grasp of key concepts is the essential foundation for success at all levels.
Tutoring Approach:
I love the buzz and performance element of classroom teaching particularly with A level and GCSE students, but I think I am equally at home teaching in small groups and with one to one individual teaching. In these situations it is essential that students take ownership of their learning and I enjoy helping students identify their strengths and weaknesses and devise some careful planning to understand and improve.
One to one teaching is fairly rare in the modern school environment and I look forward to developing my own skills as time goes on.
