Tutoring Approach:
In the case of coursework for GCSE or 'A' level I am happy to have students email their work for me to check over and then have a lesson in person or on-line. With regard to working towards examinations, I prefer to use the question papers as the basis for learning as generally each exam board has a preference for the way in which questions are answered especially in the subjects I teach. English and History especially are open to interpretation. I believe the need to read around the subject and offer a wider knowledge than is generally taught at schools or colleges is vital. Regular tuition is therefore preferable, so that all problems can be addressed over a period of time but I am flexible as to how many lessons are needed.I am also happy to teach on-line using Skype or similar if preferred, as I have been doing this over Covid and thereafter.

My approach is problem-based and diagnostic. This means that the student is actively engaged in solving problems for almost the entire lesson whilst I am responding to their answers by asking questions which reveal any underlying misconceptions.

These subjects don't have to be the impenetrable list of technicalities they are often portrayed as!

When friends asked me how I managed to get a first in my degree, I'm afraid I could only offer a traditional answer - hard work, and a fair amount of it. Maths is one of the hardest subjects to bluff your way through, and although it's possible to scrape by with a passing acquaintance of the concepts involved, you will never do particularly well without a deeper understanding of the subject. However, this shouldn't be taken as a cause for despair - far from it! With a proper understanding of the subject, a real empathy with the "why" rather than the "how", mathematics not only becomes far more interesting but also easier. I always aim to help students see the bigger picture and how the disparate parts of your course syllabus fit together.

I have several years of recent experience of teaching A level Maths, Further Maths and Physics at a school in the south of England. I'm a writer, composer, director and artist, and prizewinning History finalist at the University of Oxford, with experience of a broad range of learning environments and teaching styles, and substantial industry experience in music and the creative arts. Prior to that I worked as Head of Art at Didcot Girls` School in Oxfordshire for 9 years, before moving South towards Bristol where I began working as a tutor at the Royal West Academy in Bristol amongst other things. I have now just moved West to the Stroud area and am looking for new students and opportunities to share my passion for painting and all things creative. I have an up to date criminal record (DBS) check and I work as a GCSE Art exam moderator every summer so I`m very familiar with the latest requirements from the exam boards and course curricula. I am also an artist, selling paintings locally through various galleries, a writer and the illustrator of several published books. I`m the author of two books: `Soul Color, a ten week course on watercolour painting to cultivate creativity and mindfulness`, and `Earth Color, an eight week art course for nature connection`. Both are published by Liminal 11 in the UK and Sterling/un ion Square & Co. in the USA & Canada. I have a First Class degree in English and Fine Art from Exeter University.

I am a 25 year old who has completed Masters in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from the University of Birmingham. I also have a year of experience working as a Sofware Developer at Mercedes Benz. I have an excellent academic background in Computer Science and Maths .

Teaching Experience:
I have extensive experience teaching Mathematics and Computer Science to students aged 8 to 15, tailoring my approach to suit different learning styles and abilities.
