I'm a high-ranking martial arts instructor (6th degree black belt with nearly 40 years experience) and have been teaching now for around 30 years.

At my school in Dursley I have students of all ages from five years up to those in their sixties's. I teach courses and seminars to groups of all sizes. I've taught in schools, worked with police and youth groups etc. I often teach private lessons to individuals, both from my own school and those with no prior experience. Every new batch of tuition starts with getting to know more about the students. It is at the same time important to give the students enough space to familiarise themselves with me. A discussion will then follow to scope down what will be covered in the syllabus. A work plan is also devised with the aim to complete the syllabus well before the examinations, so as to have adequate time for revision. The following steps outline the process of each tuition session:
1. Initiate the subject or topic based on discussion of a real life example / scenario

A student's personal goals are always at the centre of their development and I like to approach tutoring on an individual basis, as, particularly with music, every student learns in a way unique to them. I have always had a profound love of literature and language, and every career decision I have made has revolved around that. After several years teaching English at a boarding school near Oxford, I have returned to London to be closer to theatre and to pursue a few creative projects alongside much private tutoring.

Teaching Experience:
I taught English full-time 2015-23, most recently for seven years at Radley College, a top boarding school near Oxford. I was also Head of UCAS there, where I personally checked and sent about 800 UCAS applications, so I can advise on Personal Statement for all types of degree, not just English.

Tutoring Approach:
I balance rigour with a pastoral approach: I want students to be on top of the detail but I am always happy to zoom out to the bigger picture and explain the value of why we are doing this or that.
