Although I learned all my foreign languages through a rigorous method very much based on writing and grammar, I am happy to adapt my method to my pupil's needs. Personally, I believe that conversation is the key to becoming fluent in a language, but at the same time I do not neglect the importance of writing and reading comprehension. Recently retired. Until the advent of Covid I would always travel to the tutee. I was forced into online tutoring very reluctantly. Being happy with the technology meant the transition was much smoother than I anticipated.

Tutoring Approach:
I tailor each lesson to my tutees according to their needs, level of knowledge and personality. In general, I start with understanding the student's ability and current progress, and then focus on areas that he/she can best improve on. This is because I need to ensure they have the right fundamental concepts to build on existing knowledge. Afterwards, I stimulate the tutee to think and analyse concepts and questions, to ingrain it in their memory. Finally, we focus on exam technique and past papers to ensure their efforts are properly demonstrated. You can also see my approach for each subject below:

Economics (A-Levels, IB, or GCSE)
I teach Economics in an interactive, unconventional and patient way. I use examples that are culturally relevant and real-world case studies to bring Economics to life. My approach is very learner-centred and customised to each student, so that they can build interest in Economics for the long run.

In terms of exam technique, quite a few students struggle in longer questions as they do not understand how to evaluate and lack structure in their answers. I can analyse the students' answers, train them in evaluation, and offer suggestions on how they can improve. This can range from applying real-world examples to following a framework for their answers.

Mathematics (A-Level or GCSE)
Mathematics can be a difficult and boring subject. However, I do my best to keep the concepts and logic simple and easy to understand. They say Asians are good at math but that is not true without hard work! Of course, I keep the lessons fun with the occasional joke and share how maths is useful in the long run.
