If the student already knows which topics they struggle with, then I am able to focus on those specific areas using a variety of resources. If necessary, I may "test" their current knowledge and capabilities by asking them to work through 1-2 questions so I can see their thought process and therefore, tailor any advice and teaching accordingly.

If a student completely doesn't understand a topic/area, then I would start from the basics and use plenty of worked examples and textbook/past paper questions to cement their knowledge and understanding as the key to doing well is achieved through practicing as many questions as possible!

I am incredibly patient, polite and well mannered. I have experienced the struggles of GCSEs and A Levels and can relate to the students concerns and worries. I'm Laurence. I attended the University of Oxford between 2010 and 2018, completing an undergraduate masters of mathematics (MMath) and a doctorate in mathematical biology (DPhil, PhD). I have 5+ years experience of tutoring the UK mathematics syllabus.

I've greatly enjoyed mathematics from an early age. On a personal level, I have found that studying mathematics has helped me appreciate the beauty of the universe - hence my specialism into applied mathematics. Studying quantum theory, special relativity and mathematical biology fundamentally changed the way I look at the world around me. I love bringing other elements of science into my lessons, helping to broaden my student's perspective on the world, and to also demonstrate how maths can open doors to incredible new ideas.

I'm also qualified in social work, with 4 years+ of specialist experience working with children who have experienced trauma. Due to this, I am also experienced in working with children with complex SEND needs or neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism and ADHD.
