The opportunity to teach both my Technical craft and Autocad has arisen more by accident than design for most of my Professional career. I am led to believe that I have a natural ability in engaging interest, particularly in younger people through a combination of both my communication skills and technical ability. This produces immediate rewards in contrast to the often lengthy process of Project work which can easily dilute job satisfaction.
I believe a fundamental part of Teaching is the ability to speak the language of the pupil - more esoteric now than ever before. Understanding and respecting their language and culture enhances the learning process and contributes to mutual satisfaction and success.

Teaching Experience:
In the 1970's and 80's my employers ; Bain, Swan Architects had a healthy Apprenticeship policy. Throughout this period, they recruited locally in conjunction with colleges in Galashiels and Ashington. I was asked if I would consider mentoring the Office's Apprentice Technicians due to my apparent communication skills and technical ability. I enjoyed this auxiliary role, particularly, as it frequently engaged me in improving my own technical education to answer their endless questions. The tuition procedure had the additional benefit of enhancing the Practice's hand-drawn presentation work through educating the apprentices in the provision of accurate, informative and harmonious drawings. This was a flair which I had developed over the years in pre-computer times and employ to this day whenever possible, despite the icy perfections of Autocad.

Working in London in the late 1990's I was invited to teach many aspects of my craft in to JJA Academy pupils in night classes.These were generally foreign students to whom I provided additional Autocad tuition, hand drafting techniques and Installation construction. I discovered that the judicious use of sketches and diagrams easily demolished any language barriers. Encouraged by the senior lecturers my confidence developed in this supplementary role.
With Wintersgill Faulkner in 1999 I was invited to create and teach a dedicated layering system in Autocad to improve the Practice's presentation output. The younger members of staff had a fairly haphazard approach to defining different materials which made their work difficult to read both on-screen and on the plotted drawings - even if it was generally correct.The principle I employed was based upon the old British Standard conventions for : colouring drawings, hatching and line density. It is rewarding to know that the same CTB file is still their standard office practice 10 years later.

After leaving school, I studied at Nottingham University for a BA in Music, then for a MA in Theology from the London School of Theology. Having worked for a while at an inner-city secondary school, I went on to complete a research masters and a PhD in Biblical Studies, whilst working as a teaching affiliate at Nottingham University. I studied Classics at King's College, Cambridge, graduating in 2009. I then trained as a teacher at Queens' College, Cambridge, graduating with a PGCE in 2010. I have been a private tutor since 2009, and have now clocked up thousands of hours' tutoring experience in Latin and Ancient Greek. Tutoring Approach:
My teaching style is structured and thorough. I start every lesson with a five minute recap of the key content of the previous session, checking how much the tutee remembers. A typical lesson will then consist of a translation, in which I ask the tutee to note down each unknown word as it is encountered and to devise a memory trick which will help them to recall the word in a five minute test at the end of the lesson. Together with the tutee, I will then pick a grammar point which stood out in the translation exercise as requiring the most immediate attention. We will spend five to ten minutes working on that, with the tutee's understanding tested with some reinforcement exercises. At the end of the lesson we will recap all the new vocabulary and grammar which was covered, and I will typically set a manageable 20 - 30 minute homework for the next session based on what was covered in the lesson. Every lesson is of course different, and tailored to the tutee's requirements, but I find this approach works in the vast majority of cases. I consider grammar to be crucially important, but treat it as a means to an end and always emphasise the ways in which it can be usefully applied to translation rather than learned in isolation. I believe that any tutee can excel in Latin and Greek with a little guidance and a decent amount of independent work. Above all, I strive to make my lessons fun and enjoyable. I love my subject and want all of my tutees to love it too.

Nice to meet you! I'm Rebecca; I'm 34 years old and graduated from Bangor University with a BSc in Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology. After university I spent a year as a specialist support worker for adults with autism and autistic traits. With my psychology degree and experience I am more than happy to cater for students that might need a bit of extra help, and have experience teaching students with Aspergers, Personality Disorder, and depression.

Following uni, I spent nearly 2 years teaching English as a foreign language in Japan. Whilst in Japan, I also learnt how to speak conversational Japanese, and can also read and write hiragana, katakana, and N5/ N4 level kanji. I am a recent graduate from The University of Birmingham in Pure Mathematics achieving an upper second class degree (2:1). I was drawn to the field of mathematics from a very young age. I guess that I was intrigued by the vast range of concepts in the real world that can be represented with huge accuracy. From finding hugely accurate values that would be impossible to measure in reality (such as the exact size and direction of the force needed to apply to a golf ball to get a perfect hole in one any time), to hiding information and creating impossible to crack secret codes that can be to hard for the most powerful computers but can be simple enough for any good mathematician to solve with just a pen and paper. Even though it wan't at all necessary, I learnt this, and still enjoy secretly communicating with other students. I also even help other students at the same level as me who didn't completely understand certain areas as well as i did. The same it true that I required help on the topics I couldn't understand well.

My experiences of tuition are that I have spent the last year giving the odd lesson to a few A-Level students that are struggling in mathematics to help raise their grades up. Further, as part of my university experience, i spent one hour per week for a year tutoring disadvantaged students at a local secondary school. Hence undertaking extra 'homework', will be an essential component to your progress in the subject. I will always ensure you feel prepared to undertake this work which will serve to practice basic understanding as well as pushing you into thinking carefully about how to apply your working knowledge. We would always agree a manageable amount to be completed by an agreed deadline. However, I may also need to be flexible with this as, of course, workloads and pressures can vary during a school year. The fact that you are comfortable raising this issue, means that we can easily work around the matter and reach a solution which eases the situation for you.

I would also offer all my support and experience in helping you prepare for any tests or final exams. There is a lot which can be done to help you mathematically, mentally and psychologically prepare for these stressful events.

Also provided as the result of every lesson, will be a pdf of the notes and work we undertook in a session. This maximises the learning potential in a session as the student is focused on the work being done and undertaking worked questions, and removing the need to 'take notes' and 'keep up'.

Teaching Experience:
Working in schools with students has allowed me to understand how best to support students in groups or one-to-one situations to help them progress as quick as possible. I have over 1,000 hours experience of tuition and am able to support students of all abilities. I have enjoyed supporting students with entrance exams to secondary schools, passing their GCSE and also retaking their Maths GCSE with success in all. I am also able to support students with SEN needs and aim to personalise learning for all so that it is accessible and achievable.

Working with children and young adults for several summers through the National Citizen Service has helped me improve my ability to challenge, motivate and help students progress, helping them reach their goals.

Prior to entering the education sector and working with children, I worked within large corporations in London and have several years of leadership experience through volunteering within the charity sector leading teams that have cumulatively raised half a million pounds.

Tutoring Approach:
I provide individual and group sessions for KS2 - KS5 students. First sessions revolve around testing the student to build up a picture of their strengths and areas of improvement. A plan will be made to help secure the knowledge they have and build up on the things they don't know. For exam candidates, lessons will focus on strengthening key skills and understanding how to approach exam style questions.

For students wishing to pass an entrance exam, I am able to support with Maths and Non - Verbal reasoning for either CEM or GL tests. Starting from September I will be offering weekly group sessions for GCSE and 11+. If you would like to join the classes, message me as places are limited.

Personal Description:
I am a practising artist and teacher with over 13 years experience. I love to support people who need to build their portfolios either for their A-levels, to apply for or while on art foundation and degree programmes.
Alongside teaching I currently work in painting, drawing, printing, and more recently dance and sculpture. I am in constant consideration of my practice and I love sharing this inspiration with my students.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching art to all ages and levels since 2010. After graduating from the Royal Drawing School in London, I ran drawing classes for them in various venues including Whitechapel Gallery, The V&A Museum, The National Gallery, and Saatchi Gallery. After the Royal Drawing School I set up and ran Root Drawing, an experimental drawing class for local artists. On residency in India I taught BA students and on my return to London taught in further education at the Art Academy. I have since developed my own practice in painting at the Turps Art School in London. For the last four years I have run the A level Art department at the Krishnamurti school, Brockwood Park in Hampshire, UK. I now continue my artistic practice in residence while guest tutoring at the Burnt Sienna Art School in Berlin. I have worked both in institutions and privately on a one to one basis.

Tutoring Approach:
My favourite thing about teaching is watching someone go from being unsure about what to do or how to approach their work to seeing them bubbling with excitement and eager to get started to see what will happen next.

We look at your themes together, I can then refer you to all the relevant artists that will be helpful for you, discuss what they have done and how this context can inform your work. From there we will devise your artistic experiments that will form the basis of your portfolio.
As we discuss these experiments together I will help you to ask the right questions so you can critically evaluate your work and refine it into finished pieces.
These steps will cover everything you need for your A level art, getting into art school or whilst on your degree.
