Having completed my first degree in French and German at Oxford University in June 2013, I returned to Belfast to complete first a MA in Medieval History, and then a further MA in Translation Studies.

At the same time, I began building up a portfolio career as a freelance tutor and translator, allowing me to live out my passion for language, literature, and culture (alongside digger manuals, pharmaceutical texts, and other oddities) on a daily basis.

Teaching Experience:
My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate years. At Oxford I gained two years' experience with Jacari, a charity that teaches English to local children of a different mother tongue. I also provided tuition to students of GCSE history in local Oxford schools.

This depends on whether the student needs support with the practical (coursework) side or the theory. With the theory, I often look through past papers with the student to establish common questions and work to get the most succinct and correct answer. With practical problems I would often set a smaller, simpler challenge related to the problem which can help the student understand, and then apply to their own coursework. I aim to make the students complete the challenges themselves as much as possible - it is not my intention to create solutions for coursework/assignments for students to use as their own. All work is done as a collaboration between myself and the student.

Helped the class teacher with the running of the A-level photography course, offering advice to students concerning their practical work. I also delivered technical demonstrations and presentations relating to students projects.

Tutoring Approach:
I have a patient and calm approach to tutoring preferring to act as a facilitator to my students development guiding them along the way to ensure they feel responsible for their own learning. I am able to deliver tuition in both film and digital based camera techniques. I also have a wide range of experience using traditional darkrooms and software programs such as Photoshop.

Through my own photographic education I have collected a large range of text books and resources that students are welcome to utilise for written assignments and I have developed a number of teaching resources to aid students with research techniques and the composition of essays.

I am an enthusiastic, young and passionate tutor with much experience in the field of teaching. With my confidence and ability to teach at varied ages I feel that I am a competent tutor for students struggling with any facet of the education cycle in schools.

I feel that teaching learners at a personal level requires a particular mindset, the pedagogical approach would be catered to my learner's needs and ability. I would first take a diagnostic test of my student and then proceed with the best course of action for this tutee, using my experience from my PGCE year and my current teaching practice, I would teach accordingly.

Recently retired. Until the advent of Covid I would always travel to the tutee. I was forced into online tutoring very reluctantly. Being happy with the technology meant the transition was much smoother than I anticipated.
I am now so happy with this method of tutoring I would even use it if the tutee was living next door.
For some years now I have been tutoring mainly A level to students all over England and Wales. This means I have become conversant with all relevant Exam boards. Although I have tutored EDEXCEL I would now restrict this to the first year. The second year is very specialised in parts and not to my liking. Consequently, I am happy tutoring all four exam boards except for EDEXEL in the second year.

As required. Past papers used extensively when possible and mark schemes provided.
I have many high quality digital resources which lend themselves to online teaching. I typically go over topics before leaving the tutee with many past paper questions.
Examining experience helps direct tutees to the salient points within questions and develop the necessary skills to answer them appropriately.
Skype is my favoured way of communicating information and this is supported by feedback from the students.
I have a very easy going relationship with tutees; I hope supportive and encourage a small degree of banter. Professional but friendly. After all, some tutees are going to be quite stressed, especially if things are not going well. My aim is to help them deal with their difficulties, not add to them

I am a dedicated, creative and hard-working teacher/tutor. I enjoy making my lessons fun and accessible to students, and to this end I create a bank of my own resources to support and facilitate learning for any student at any level.

With the breadth of qualifications that I possess in English, I am truly a specialist in my field.

Teaching Experience:
I am a fully qualified teacher of English (secondary trained), with a degree in my subject. I have eight years experience of teaching English up to Key Stage 5. I also possess an MA in Creative Writing, as well as a CELTA qualification to teach students with English as a second/foreign language.

I possess qualifications from Russell group universities, Queen Mary University of London (BA English - 2.1) and King`s College London (PGCE English 11-18) in addition, my MA is from Birkbeck University of London.

I have worked as a marker for NFER and AQA - I therefore know what examiners are looking for at SATs and GCSE level. Exam specifications I have taught include AQA, Edexcel and OCR at GCSE level, and Edexcel at Functional Skills level. I have up to.date knowledge of the new 9-1 GCSE English specification, as I regularly mark for AQA.

My teaching experience encompasses whole class teaching, as well as small group/intervention work and one to one tuition. I have worked with primary school children in Key Stages 1 and 2 (for maths and English), as well as secondary and students in further education, including adults.

Tutoring Approach:
I tailor my tuition sessions to suit my tutees. The first thing I do is find out their learning style, as well as carry out a diagnostic assessment. That way, I am able to ascertain the tutee's strengths and weaknesses, and we can both decide on the best way forward, with targets to be reviewed every lesson.

I believe sessions should be engaging and fun; moreover, it is vital that learning takes place. I will customise my lessons to the learner and set follow-up work, however the onus is also on the learner to put in the effort, and ask for clarification/additional help, as and when necessary.
