I am a 45 year old lady residing in Ashford, Kent. I originally come from Africa and have been in England for 10 years now. I trained as a primary school teacher but resigned after 16 years mainly because I wanted to travel and broaden my experiences. My hobbies are reading and writing (for leisure), travelling and sightseeing, aerobics and swimming. I could however easily call teaching one of my hobbies because I always find myself teaching people wherever I go!

I was a primary school teacher for 16 years but I also did private tutoring as a sideline. I taught English to the age group 9-10years and outside working hours I taught adult literacy classes. I think I did well because I always found myself with so many private students to teach that sometimes it was hard to cope . All the same I enjoyed every minute of it. I have also recently qualified as an EFL teacher and am hoping to start soon.

When I meet a student for the first time I always believe in taking time to know them. By this I mean their well being and /or state of mind. For example, if a student has come to class only because someone has insisted, then learning will be a chore. Or if they have personal problems, or they are hungry, tired or ill then we will not get very far. So I will take a few minutes to chat and get to know their state of mind as well as reassure them before we start and if there is anything I can do to settle them then that is what I will do first. I am saying this with a view to teaching adults because that is what I hope to do. I also believe in teaching in a very relaxed environment that is conducive to learning so I always try and get rid of all distractions before we start. I began my combat training at thirteen at a local boxing club in Llanelli, learning the vital skills and discipline that have kept me working in the fitness and self-defence field for over ten years.

At the age of fifteen I joined the Cobra-Kai Freestyle Kickboxing Federation, and trained religiously under the regime of instructor Lee Martin (4th degree black belt). In 1997 I went on to win the European martial arts title (WUMA Federation), held at Cheltenham. On my return, and after numerous local newspaper photos and write-ups, I received the greatest honour any keen young martial artist dreams of: becoming a fully-fledged black belt.

Teaching Experience:
At the young age of 18, I opened my very own kickboxing club at Llanelli Leisure Centre, for all levels and ages. After showcasing my skills, not only as a martial artist but also a teacher, I received my 2nd degree black belt. Starting with just one weekly ninety-minute class, I now run four classes per week. I've been working with languages for many years, first as a translator and then as an English teacher. I speak two foreign languages myself (Spanish and Catalan) and so I understand exactly what things you might find difficult when you are learning English.

I am TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualified.

I have helped many people from different countries to improve their English. I have worked with all levels from complete beginners to advanced learners. I have a TEFL qualification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and I have been working with languages for many years. I have experience teaching both in-person and online.
