As Senior Teacher/ Teacher in Charge, of a Medical Pupil Referral Unit I headed up a dedicated team of skilled teachers who worked with young people on a 1:1 and small group basis. I am well aware of the current concerns with the mental health of young people and aim to support those I work with in a positive and sensitively focused manner. I am a mature lady (60yo) with a 1st Class Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree (B.Sc) and a Postgraduate Management qualification from Cambridge University. My own 'A' Levels were Biology, Maths and Physics with a particular focus on electronics. At University I studied Maths at degree level.

After working as an Engineer I changed career in my late 20s and moved into the world of Therapy and Healing. I trained in hypnotherapy and craniosacral therapy as well as Human Design. I have worked with young people utilising various modalities to help them gain confidence and choose careers/subjects that bring out the best in them. I studied for a time in a Rudolph Steiner environment so I appreciate the value of alternative approaches and Artistic therapies to educating young people. I was also a member of the Steiner Academy Appeals panel for some time in Hereford.

From 2009 to 2012 I worked in an Admin capacity for OFSTED travelling around Schools and Colleges up and down the SW of England. My particular area of responsibility was the safeguarding and protection of children.

In 2011 I attended an Introduction to Autism training with the HANDLE organisation as I increasingly meet young people struggling on the Autism spectrum so this topic is of particular interest to me. I was a volunteer teacher when I was an undergraduate student in China. It was in a countryside school of Hunan province. I went there with my schoolmates in a summer holiday. Since I finished my masters degree in 2020, I have been tutoring several students with different needs around Manchester. Although I gained confidence and deeper knowledge within my studies, I was definetly missing out of the joy of teaching during my studies :)

In 2014, I got my qualified teacher status as a Primary school teacher within 4 years of Bachelor's degree back in Turkey. The last 2 years of my studies was including teaching experience and I actively worked in several schools during this time as a teaching assistant as well as the main teacher. Prior to that, I had several 1-1 tutees since 2010 as the qualification that I was getting was in high demand! During my BA studies, I tutored more than 20 primary school students on a regular basis.

After I graduated in 2014, I started to work in a primary school for 6 months, then I decided to get trained in Special Needs Education as Special Needs support in Turkey is one-on-one basis. That's something that I realised during my education and work experience- I was enjoying and working the best if I was working 1-1 basis. Thus, I got trained by the Ministry of Education in Turkey as Special Needs Expert.

Between 2015-2018 I worked as a Special Needs Specialist (1-1 support) across several schools. I worked with more than 150 students who have ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, learning disabilities, down syndrome, multiple and profound learning disabilities, visual and hearing impairments. I worked with students from age 2 to 30. In the mean time, I topped up my knowledge studying 2 years foundation degree in Child Development to have more of a professional perspective on early years/Foundation stage.

In 2018, I moved to England to start my MA studies in Special Needs and carried on teaching 1-1 ever since I graduated in 2020.

I worked with several children/teenagers/young adults across Manchester within different settings. I got trained in Applied Behavioural Analysis/ABA and tutored in this area offering behavioural support alongside the academic support I have been offering.

I got regular students in Manchester , offering home schooling, pastoral and behavioural support on a regular basis. I have also offered short term interventions , behavioural/emotional support to students who have different needs during this period.

I offer online support as well as in person sessions if you are local to Manchester.

As an Inclusive Education graduate, my teaching approach is 'One size does not fit all!'. Meaning, we all have different needs -with or without- any labels.

For a start, I meet the parents to discuss their expectations and their desires for their children. Then, to go further - I would like to meet the students to briefly assess what they need or simply, to see if we get along. It is important to make a proper plan in accordance with the parents' expectations and children's need and suitability.

My motto is - you have to respect the children/young adults if you want them to respect you. Each child have things to teach you if you listen to them carefully.

Teaching Experience:
I am a highly enthusiastic, caring and driven teacher with a wide range of experience teaching within the Early Years and Key Stage 1, following the English National Curriculum and Development Matters EYFS framework. I am deeply passionate about early childhood development and the relevant pedagogy; I enjoy in actively engaging with the latest research and training in this area. I am dedicated to meet the holistic needs of every child within my care as well as furthering my own personal and professional development. This is shown in my recent promotion to Wellbeing Coordinator of my school. I have worked in a wide range of schools, predominantly within the younger years, giving me broad experience across areas such as successful differentiation, progression, behaviour management techniques, and aspects such as working with children with SEN and learning EAL. Working within the international/independent sector has further ignited my passion for learning and teaching to the best of my ability. Hi! My name is Jessica, and I hold a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology from the University of Kent. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience working within the education and healthcare sectors, primarily focusing on supporting young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). My professional journey has been dedicated to enhancing the educational experiences and overall wellbeing of children and adolescents, and I hope to continue doing this through my work tutoring children and young people here.

Teaching Experience:
As a former Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, I supported therapists in running language groups and worked directly with children 1-1 to improve their communication, comprehension, verbal and written skills.

I have also helped to support a number of family members with their Maths skills, working 1-1 to tutor their children and give dedicated space and time to work on their understanding and to help them achieve improvements.
