I am a fully-qualified professional teacher with more than 30 years of teaching and tutoring experience, both in the UK and abroad. 11+ and 13+ (Common Entrance)
I am very happy to report that all but one of my twelve Eleven Plus tutees passed the SET (Selective Eligibility Test) for Sutton's grammar schools last September. Of these, 100% of them passed the second stage exam and obtained their first choice of grammar or independent school. I use a selection of published materials and those of my own creation, and insist on a high standard of weekly homework in reading, writing and language knowledge. For 11+ pupils I start tutoring in Year 4 or 5, whereas 13+ pupils begin in Year 7 or 8.

KS2 and KS3 SATs
I usually start tutoring for the KS2 SATS in Year 5, and in Year 8 for the KS3 SATs. I tend to use a mixture of focused texts and past papers.

GCSE and A-level
I am equally happy to report that all of my most recent GCSE and A-level students have passed well, with top grades from B to A* (A-level) and 6-9 (GCSE). The majority of those have gone on to their first choice of further and higher education institutes, and in most cases this has been achieved by my insisting on regular homework done to a high standard. For GCSE pupils I prefer to start tutoring at some time in Year 10, whereas A-level students typically begin around Year 12.

I also provide individual tutoring in ESSAY WRITING and STUDY SKILLS, as my experience has taught me that many students at GCSE, A-level and undergraduate level face real problems in these areas. By working together on your essays, substantial improvements can be made in style, organisation, argument, presentation, and much more. This way, I can teach you how produce more effective and mature essays, and thus help you to obtain better grades and increase your confidence in producing written work.

Tutoring Approach:
With every tutee I carry out an initial assessment of his/her needs and abilities, and my teaching begins from there. Typically I work on improving their weaknesses and consolidating their strengths, and this essentially involves them producing high-quality homework on a regular basis. I use both established published materials and those that I have created myself over the years. This approach appears to be successful, and I can provide references.

I am extremely friendly and am quick to build rapport with clients of all ages.

I am based in Buckinghamshire, and am proud to receive a high percentage of clients as a result of word-of-mouth, many of whom attend local schools including independent, grammar and comprehensive schools. With my background working in secondary schools, I specialise in teaching KS3 (years 7-9) and GCSE Spanish learners. I ensure I am up-to-date with the demands of the National Curriculum in England and the format and requirements of secondary school examinations. I am particularly familiar with the AQA syllabus, however I provide quality exam preparation for all GCSE and A level exam boards. As an English native and having started my own Spanish-learning journey at school, I have acquired an acute understanding of the foreign language-learning process and am therefore able to offer unique insight and support into all aspects of my clients' journey towards fluency. I am well-accustomed to recognising the most difficult stages of learning the Spanish language and I am fast at identifying the strengths and weaknesses of my tutees. I aim to leave clients feeling more confident with their Spanish from the very first lesson. I am known for my love of Spanish grammar and I have a flare for teaching verbs and tenses in a logical and clear way. I have an online booking system which is updated regularly with my availability. This allows my clients the flexibility to book online Spanish lessons with ease, at a time and on a day that suits them. I recognise the reality of busy family schedules, and therefore clients are able to book lesson slots with as little as 24 hours notice, or alternatively, block-book as many lessons as they wish in order to secure their preferred time slot.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified and experienced Mandarin and Spanish teacher, and held the positions of Head of Chinese at both Oakham School and Oundle School. I am bilingual in Spanish, and studied Chinese at University for 4 years, including a year in China.

Languages have always been a passion of mine, and I am eager to help language learners of all abilities. I am friendly and approachable, and realise how difficult Mandarin in particular can be for learners with no Chinese background. I genuinely enjoy finding new ways to help pupils overcome these difficulties, especially with writing and speaking. Spanish has its own challenges, and I am equally passionate about both languages.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught and am familiar with a range of exam boards and syllabuses. At GCSE Level I have taught AQA and EdExcel, and Cambridge IGCSE. I have also taught IB Diploma Level: Spanish Standard and Higher Levels; Mandarin ab initio. I have taught A Level and Cambridge Pre-U in both languages for a number of years. All my pupils have achieved top results.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that everyone learns differently and I will first spend time getting to know exactly what is needed, and how the individual learns best before coming up with a personalised plan. I believe my strongest ability is an adaptability to meet the varying needs of the pupil as, generally, this is why tuition is being sought beyond the school curriculum.

In terms of academic structure, I would aim to follow a curriculum but have the flexibility to pause where needed. I am a firm believer that confidence is an essential part of learning a language, and I hope to give my pupils the confidence that they need.

Lastly, but equally as important, language learning should be engaging and fun. I strive to keep a healthy balance in this. So often I meet pupils who have initially fallen out of love with a subject and bringing them back on board is essential. Whilst the emphasis is always on academic progress, lessons will always be enjoyable.

I'm Freya and I want to help you discover how great learning languages can be!
I have recently just finished my third year at the University of St. Andrews studying Italian and Spanish. I spent my third year in Italy working as an English Language Assistant in a middle school as part of the year abroad programme.
I consider myself an approachable person and find teaching to be a very rewarding experience, and I welcome comments from my tutors about helpful points or areas of improvement to ensure students get the most out of my lessons.

I have 9 years experience of learning languages, which include Spanish, Italian, French, Welsh and German, therefore I have acquired the necessary skills, techniques and methods required to learn and revise for a Modern Foreign Language and hope to pass this onto students. I achieved 2 A*s and 1 A in my A-Levels and am fully aware of the dedication and hard work that is required to achieve your best potential.

Teaching Experience:
After having spent the last academic year as an English Language Assistant to students in a middle school in Italy, I have experience of teaching a range of different abilities and attitudes. Teaching a second language to over 120 pupils (aged 12-14) has provided with new teaching skills whilst also understanding difficulties that students overcome when learning a new language.
In my final year of sixth form, I volunteered my free time at the Preparatory School teaching introductory Spanish to pupils aged seven to ten and returned a year later during my University summer holidays.
The methodology I studied in an English Language Teaching section of a Linguistics module during my first year of University included the theory of language and learning which shapes the objectives, syllabus and activities of a lesson along with the tutor and tutee roles. In addition to this, I have also embarked upon a self-funded online teaching course for second language learning and the best tips and techniques in order for students to succeed.

Tutoring Approach:
Learning a language is complex task that takes a lot of practice and determination.
I tend to focus on grammar drills followed by exercises that include different topics of vocabulary, however I tailor classes to the needs of the tutee. My online classes include powerpoints, games and grammar and vocabulary exercises all through speaking or writing exercises.
As I studied for my GCSE's and A-Levels a few years ago, I have a lot of revision notes and books which are of great help and am happy to mark practice past papers for students as I know personally how helpful these are.
