My name is Ella and I am Head of Spanish in a leading Independent School in Cardiff.

I have taught both French and Spanish to A Level for 10 years, and have experience teaching WJEC, AQA and Edexcel specifications. I hold a BA (Hons) in French and Hispanic Studies from King's College London, for which I received a 2:1, an MA in Art History with a particular focus on Spanish Art History and socio-political artistic exchange, for which I received a Distinction, and I completed my NPQML qualification in 2021.

In my spare time, my passions are art, history, European cinema and keeping fit. I have also begun learning Arabic, Catalan and Mandarin myself!

I received my PGCE in Spanish with Subsidiary French from King's College London, and have worked in both the independent and state sector in England and Wales. I assumed the role of Head of Department in my current school in 2024 after being the Spanish Subject Coordinator for 2 years prior, and have been Second in Department and Head of French in previous schools. Recently, I became an examiner for WJEC/Eduqas, and have marked for these exam boards. I am a qualified native teacher of French and Spanish with UK QTS (qualified teacher status). My PGCE has enabled me to work in various secondary schools and colleges in England.

I have a life long interest in linguistics and studied this in depth as part of my English and Spanish degree at the university of Poitiers, as well as the Diploma in Translation.

I am often told that am kind and patient- I do believe these are necessary qualities as a tutor to create a trusting relationship with a young person.

I believe that learning needs to be achievable in order to increase confidence, this is especially true at the beginning of the tuition when I try to pitch the activities at the right level, before extending the student's further. .

I use zoom for online teaching, which enables me to share my screen, including for the purpose of watching videos or listening to extracts. After the lesson, I send the main exercise(s) completed by the student alongside useful annotations, which can be kept for future revision (screen images).

This is accompanied by a personalised report after each class including homework to consolidate any weak area highlighted during the lesson. This is very much appreciated by parents and students, creating a thread between lessons.
