Tutoring Approach:
I specialise in teaching students to do just that little bit better in exams and in fundamental skills that will be useful to them throughout their education, such as writing clearly and engagingly.

Learning should also be fun and tailored to the student; ideas don't really come alive unless they feel relevant. So even my university teaching uses sources that are accessible and interesting to the student, like podcasts and youtube videos.

Teaching Experience:
I have relevant experience applicable to teaching. I have over 7 years experience working with complex children aged 15-18, facilitating psychological interventions on a 121 and group basis. I previously worked with adults, providing group interventions as well as worked with young people in the Princes Trust. I deliver training to adults on a regular basis.

I take a client-centred approach and have been trained in Motivational Interviewing. I have passed my qualification component related to training others: the skills I have developed both in facilitating and training are applicable to 121 tutoring. I have also developed a national training on Behaviour Management of children, therefore have experience and in depth knowledge of child development as well as trauma and attachments.

Through my various years as a Professional in Psychology Services, I have excellent and professional writing skills as well as oral presentations. I can therefore provide support in essay writing, scientific research and presentations.

Tutoring Approach:
I take a client-centred approach, exploring preferred learning styles and can use Motivational Interviewing to collaborate, elicit and provide autonomy to students.

By using my knowledge of Psychology, Children, child and adult learning (pedagogy and andragogy), I can apply this in the teaching environment.

I will explore learning styles however seek to teach using all styles to maximise learning (however this is flexible per client). I will aim to make learning fun, applicable and therefore rewarding. I will encourage reflections and self-assessment.

I received my BA from Columbia College, Columbia University and my MSc and PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics. I have won competitive research grants and am an active researcher. I have published across a wide range of journals from the British Journal of Sociology through the European Review of Economic History to Political Studies. My research has been covered by the press including the i paper, the Guardian, the Telegraph and the Observer.

Teaching Experience:
I have wide experience teaching across the UK university system including Oxford, Kent, UCL and LSBU. I have been a Sociology lecturer and tutor for over twenty years. I have teaching awards where I was nominated by students. I have taught across the Sociology curriculum including sociological theory, research methods, social statistics, political sociology, sociology of education and sociology of religion.

My teaching is informed by strong faith in my students' ability to succeed and produce high quality work. I pride myself on being able to make complex, technical material accessible to my students. I take pleasure when my students are surprised by how well they have done. My approach to students is tailored to their individual needs. I am there to support students who feel they are struggling and to push those who feel confident. I build up a relationship of trust with my students where they feel confident about their abilities and can accept constructive criticism. I am equally happy teaching theoretical and empirical topics. I especially enjoy helping students design plans for research projects. I am an enthusiastic and supportive tutor who is passionate about helping students reach their full potential. I strive to create a positive and relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and asking questions. I am patient, understanding, and committed to making lessons engaging and accessible, regardless of a student's starting point. Seeing students gain confidence and achieve their goals is what motivates me the most. As a young tutor with 2 years tutoring experience, I aim to build strong relationships with my tutees and provide the encouragement and guidance they need to succeed. As someone who sat their GCSE exams over 3 years ago, and A-Level exams over a year ago, I have a good understanding of the exam boards and the techniques students need to demonstrate in the exam to get the top grades. Having been through the process myself recently, I know how crucial it is to not only understand the content, but to apply this content to exam questions. Through targeted practice and frequent feedback, I can help students avoid common mistakes and develop effective exam techniques to achieve their desired grade.

Teaching Experience:
I have experience tutoring A-Level students in History, Sociology, and Philosophy & Ethics in both one-to-one and small-group sessions. The same goes for GCSE students studying History and Sociology. My role involved planning lessons tailored to individual learning needs, developing students' subject knowledge, and teaching effective exam techniques across Edexcel, AQA, and OCR exam boards. If the subject you are studying is not assessed by these exam boards, do not worry! I am a fast learner and can quickly study what examiners are looking for in exams. I regularly monitored progress, set achievable targets, and used active recall and exam-question practice to address gaps in understanding. My support has helped several students improve by two to three grades, including students progressing from C to A and B to A*. In addition, I have worked closely with teachers to develop learning resources, mark and moderate A-Level and GCSE assessments.

Tutoring Approach:
My tutoring sessions follow a clear structure to meet students' individual needs. Before we begin, I like to have a conversation with the student, either over messages or on a video call, to get to know them better and understand what they would like to achieve. This gives me the opportunity to identify areas where they may be falling behind, topics they find challenging, and the type of support that would benefit them most. From there, I can create lessons that are tailored to their needs and help them build their confidence in subject knowledge and exam practice.
