I am a fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching. I lead in inclusion and diversity - supporting schools to break the barriers of inequality. Previously I have been Head of Departments for History and Social Sciences before moving further in my career. I have a passion for engaging and challenging T&L, and focus on nurturing skills as well as context and narrative. I can adapt my teaching to suit any age range or ability and have great success in top grade outcomes (A Level A/A*, and GCSE 7+) as well as supporting children achieve their aspirations.

I am an inclusive practitioner who prioritises T&L innovation, inclusion and engagement in the classroom. All my lessons are bespoke; created and resourced to the highest level.

I offer live feedback, feeding forward to ensure students can apply the feedback to future tasks, as well as imroving upon work done.

I use a wide range of resources and approaches to build up a trusted and effective student/teacher relationship.

I will ensure my guidance supports existing learning, as well as nurturing student confidence and resilience. I am able to deliver set lessons or schemes, as well as support in a more ad hoc way as the student needs change over time ie revsion for exams, hwk support etc.

Personal Description:
I have been a Sociology teacher for over 3 years. I did my bachelors degree in European Social and Political Studies and did a PGCE in Social Sciences at UCL.

I have achieved A*A*A grades at A-Level Sociology, Politics and Geography. I have studied both AS and A2 Level Sociology with AQA and received A* Grades in all my modules - the topics I have studied were: Family and Households; Education; Crime and Deviance; Beliefs; Theory and Methods. I have also taught the Media component of the course.

Even if I haven't studied the same topics, I believe that I can offer extremely valuable essay tips and techniques to help you succeed at A-Level Sociology as I have gained a wealth of knowledge over the last 3 years of teaching and 5 years of tutoring this subject.

Tutoring Approach:
I make presentations catered for the tutee for every lesson. I make them as interactive and engaging, as this is what allows for retention. Throughout the lesson I make sure that the tutee understands the content (e.g. asking the tutee to rephrase the content that is being learnt to make sure they fully grasp the topic.) I end lessons with recap practice exam questions.
After the end of the lesson, I send the presentation via email so you can revisit it at any time.

Personal Description:
I received my BA from Columbia College, Columbia University and my MSc and PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics. I have won competitive research grants and am an active researcher. I have published across a wide range of journals from the British Journal of Sociology through the European Review of Economic History to Political Studies. My research has been covered by the press including the i paper, the Guardian, the Telegraph and the Observer.

Teaching Experience:
I have wide experience teaching across the UK university system including Oxford, Kent, UCL and LSBU. I have been a Sociology lecturer and tutor for over twenty years. I have teaching awards where I was nominated by students. I have taught across the Sociology curriculum including sociological theory, research methods, social statistics, political sociology, sociology of education and sociology of religion.

Tutoring Approach:
My teaching is informed by strong faith in my students' ability to succeed and produce high quality work. I pride myself on being able to make complex, technical material accessible to my students. I take pleasure when my students are surprised by how well they have done. My approach to students is tailored to their individual needs. I am there to support students who feel they are struggling and to push those who feel confident. I build up a relationship of trust with my students where they feel confident about their abilities and can accept constructive criticism. I am equally happy teaching theoretical and empirical topics. I especially enjoy helping students design plans for research projects. I know students often feel intimidated when they first begin to do their own research. I can help you identify appropriate data, analyse it and present your findings in a clear and attractive manner.
